Hello from Oklahoma!

Happy Monday!

Introducing myself to the group.

My name is Eric and I live in Bixby, Oklahoma, a fantastic suburb south of Tulsa.

My wife and I are taking our two children, daughter 9, and son 3, on our first trip to Walt Disney World, Oct. 10-17.

So, 75 more days to go!

I joke that she and I have planned this vacation more than our own wedding! lol JK. wink

We are staying at Pop Century! Yay! Other than the double beds, this place looks perfect for us!

We will be in the parks the whole time, not planning to do any downtown Disney shopping, or lounging by the pool.

So, for us, its going to be Disney Magic all the time, every day! clapping

So, two exciting things are going on during our week that I am excited to learn more about.

The Halloween parties are happening, we secured tickets for the Friday, Oct. 15 event. Looking forward to this and learning about what to do and how early I'll need to be in lines, if necessary.

I'm also looking forward to the Food & Wine Festival in Epcot. This was unexpected for us, but we think it sounds fascinating. I don't know if this would be an appropriate environment for small children, hence the wine drinking, but maybe it'll be worth a shot! mickey

welcome ...again!!!

We will be in Pop Century the week after you. Love it there! There are 3 of us that stay there (DH,me and the LO, 9) We have had no trouble with the double beds because by the time you run around all day, you just crash in the beds. It is a little tight, but the mattresses are super comfy.

You will have an awesome time at MNSSHP. My daughter loved the idea of trick or treating in the Magic Kingdom. What kid wouldn't?!?! The rides were mostly walk on that night, so that was another huge bonus.

As for F&W, we go every year mostly during the day. We went last year and stayed there after Illuminations (so figure around 10pm or so). That was the only time I have been there and felt like it was not the best place for kids. However, that was after a long, hot day and I am sure quite a few of the people had been drinking for a good part of the day. Rest of the times I have visited, it was just fine and still very family friendly!

Welcome!!!

Your plans sound great!! I have never done the Halloween thing before so I'm jealous!

One recommendation...My husband and I did 4 parks in 4 days on our very first trip. By the time we came home we were exhausted and it had sucked some of the fun out of it. Our last trip which was primarily parks but included down time and a little bit of pool time was so much more fun! Most people with kids highly recommend adding in a little bit of pool lounging time. The parks are a blast but can be very tiring, especially with two little ones so be open to resting. Also, consider mid-day naps with the kids back at the resort. As long as you have park hopper passes you can comes right back and enjoy more time! If you worry too much about "Go, go, go!" and what I've heard some people refer to as "getting our money's worth" then the trip will be very stressful. Crying, grumpy kids are not magical. The resorts are Disney Magical too! mickey

welcome and congrats on your first trip!

We went to Food & Wine Festival back in 2012 and LOVED it! I definitely think you can still take your kids there, especially if they like a wide variety of food. However, I would recommend avoiding weekends as they can become very crowded with locals, and I would also recommend going during the day and avoiding evenings when much of the crowd might have had one too many adult beverages.

Excited for you guys and hope you have a blast!

Welcome to the forum!! You are going to have a blast on your trip. I would suggest going to food and wine during the day as it can get a little rowdy at night. Can't wait to hear what you think of the Halloween party. That is on the list for next year.

welcome from sunny Florida! Your first WDW vacation is SO exciting!!! My husband and I are locals and for the past 8 years we've gone to WDW every few weekends. But neither of us had ever been to Disney world before that. As adults, we were both so excited for our first trip and we still get excited every time we go! All our visits are 100% park time and we love it that way!

We have encountered drunk people at Epcot but we actually see less overly intoxicated people during F&W than we do on a regular non-F&W weekend. Your children might get bored in the world showcase pretty fast. I love walking around the WS, but it's probably the least fun part of a park for most kids. If you plan your F&W visit around lunchtime you should be able to avoid drunk people and you'll get a couple hours before your kids are bored. awesome

Hey there, Oklahoma! One of my sisters used to live in the Tulsa area. Very nice city and area.

Just a thought on those double beds - You've got two adult-size people and two pint-size people, and I suspect the smaller two are not accustomed to sharing a bed. For space reasons and also to avoid the "He's on my side!" and "She's touching me!" tussles, maybe consider having one kid share a bed with Mom and the other with Dad?

welcome from sunny FL beach . Oct is a great time of the year to visit WDW and even better when the Food and Wine festival is at full swing clapping .

If you are concerned about having your small kids at EPCOT during the festivities Party , visit/partake of EPCOT & the F&W festival earlier in the day. I don't recall any issues pillowfight during my previous visits to EPCOT/F&W festival, but all my kids are adults. But, when my kids were younger yeah , we usually ended the evenings at the Magic Kingdom mickey .

Cheers

Hello again Eric and welcome . You seem much less stressed now than you did in in your first post. We all go through that first trip syndrome, although now a days it can be much worse with all the changes that have come about at Disney in the past few years, but it will all work out!.

As for the MNSSHP, you will have a blast there! Its a great time.

Let me know if you want to be put on the "Where are you from?" Map!.
