Hotel room is too far

Hey Smile

This might be a silly question, but I always wondered:

How do they "decide" who stays where in a hotel, when the rooms are all "standard"?

I'm asking this because the last two times (and the only ones) I've been to Disney, I've stayed in the All Star Music resort (which I love), and I swear to god...THEY PUT ME IN THE SAME ROOM I'VE STAYED BEFORE!!! Same bulding (Country Fair), same floor (third), same room (that one I forgot...). Is that just a coincidence or is there a reason to it?

It was kind of a bitch the last time though. I was with my mom and she found the room too far from the entrance, where the bus stops are.

I know that the "prefered rooms" are the ones near the big pool, but how do they decide which guest gets which "block"? Is it first come, first served?

I have heard a bunch of different things. The first being the earliest you book, the better the selection on the room. I have also heard when you make the reservation, just ask for something closer to say an elevator and they will do there best to do that and put a note in your reservation. But I honestly think the earliest you can make the reservation the better your chances on what you can get. Also dont be afraid to let them know when you make the reservation as well. If anything... it wont hurt.

The earlier you make your reservation, and ask them at that time for any requests the better your chance of getting your wishes. HOWEVER I have also heard that room assignments at the various resorts are not finalized until a week at the earliest before the check in date. For my part I tend to believe both of those theories. I also believe that rooms are able to be changed right up to the time you actually check in and in fact I have had my room changed at check in to accomodate my walking problems.

Great question! I've always wondered about that, too. Makes me wonder who I would need to suck up to... crossfingers

We've always heard that nothing gets assigned until day-of, so your request will be in there, but they won't look at it until you check in. Of course I "hear" lots of wrong things too.

Interesting.

I'll probably be staying at Pop Century next time, but I want to make sure is not too far, for my mom's sake. She'll be 60 and although she is in great health, she gets sore feet and backaches really easily...So I'll ask them for something closer...I didn't know you could!

Thanks guys, you're the best clapping

Definitely request a room close to the lobby when you book. Have your reservations agent note it on the reservation. The rooms get assigned about 5 days in advance (that's when the resort gets the reservations from the central reservations office), so some folks recommend faxing the resort 5 days out with your request. Finally, when you check in, get there very early if possible and re-state your request. Let them know it's because your mom gets backaches as well. Letting them know WHY you're requesting a certain room can help them to better place you in a room that will make more sense for you.

We've had our room changed multiple times upon check-in, simply because we wanted a room in a different section of the resort or closer to a particular pool/lobby. They're usually very kind and accommodating. Though nothing's guaranteed Smile

at all the times I've stayed at OKW, I've always made sure to call (rather than put it online) to request a room close to the Hospitality House and Transportation.
They've always been really good about putting me close to both!

We booked a preferred room at POP a year pretty much to the day of our trip and I'll let you know how it plays out. last time we were 40 feet from the computer pool and 20 feet from the laundry but we were a 5 minute walk from the ships and buses but it was awesome and quiet and the pool was mostly empty. YAY
