How about Fluffy Folk at Disney?

After reading the recent thread about tall people, it got me wondering....how is Disney World for those of us on the more rubenesque side of things?

I was at DisneyLand four years ago, and didn't have a problem with any of the rides. However, since then I have had perhaps a few too many night shift Dorito fests (omg, nothing tastes better at 3:00 am than Doritos!). I am 5'3, and perhaps a size 16/18.

My cousin was recently at our local theme park. She is admittedly chubby, but her....ahem....chest is rather huge. She went to get on a ride with a shoulder harness, and the harness wouldn't come down and close over her rather ample bosom. After spending a few minutes trying to rearrange her and shove the harness down, the ride attendant had to ask her to get off the ride, and off she went with everyone staring at her. Quite frankly, I think I just might die if this happened to me.

My question is: are there any rides that I should steer clear of? Or is Disney World okay for people of all different shapes and sizes?

RocknRollerCoaster, Mission Space, and Stitch are the only three that have shoulder harnesses if I remember correctly. Although I think I remember those bars in Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain being awfully tight on my big belly! laugh

Princess not to worry. I am a few pounds heavier and a size or two larger and I was able to ride everything without much difficulty. I rode Rock 'N Roller Coaster and I had no problem with the shoulder harness. Of course it was not my favorite ride. Also my friend and I rode the Barnstormer at MK and like I told Amanda it was a tight fit but I was able to ride it. Please don't worry and if you have any questions about a ride just ask a CM about it.

I'm a pretty big guy and have not had any ride issues at Disney.

I'm not skinny, either, and I've never had a problem. (Ignore the photo to the left, it was taken 15-20 pounds ago biggrin)

I'm a more rounded person and if in doubt I always try the seats outside if they have them. I did find astro orbiter a bit tight and the barnstormer but both of us did fit and it was fun. The only time I've had problems was at a non Disney place in Hong Kong and I couldn't fit on a train ride and I tried they tried and in the end I had to get off. I was so upset and embarrassed.

The only thing I've ever had an issue with at WDW was the Astro Orbitor, long(ish) legs and a busted knee. I've never had any issue with my size.

I'm not enormous by any means, but I'm certainly "fluffier" than I might prefer. I've never had a problem with ride seats or restraints--well, except for mission space, but that was not a person-too-large-for-ride issue. I'd still freak about about a shoulder harness if I was 5'1" and 115lbs. DH is 5'10" and hovers around 300lbs. The only rides he hasn't been on are Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest and both because of refurbs/lack of time, not because of size. He can even ride the Barnstormer. WDW is really good about making their attractions accessible for as many guests as possible.

I've never seen anyone asked to get off a WDW ride due to size of any kind. I think you will be fine. As someone else posted, there are only 3 or 4 rides with the pull down harness. There always seems to be plenty of room in those rides! You'll be fine. Smile

I have but that was DLP and Crush's coaster, but he was a very very large man and seemed to have loads of luggage with him which he wanted to take with him on the ride! They were subtle (the CMs) but he made a fuss and drew attention to himself

I honestly would not worry. I'm a BBW and I find Disney to be extremely fluffy friendly. About the only over the shoulder harness roller-coaster I can think of at Disney is RNR at Hollywood Studios. I am profoundly.....blessed in the bosom (as evidenced by my avatar pic biggrin ) and I've never had an issue with the shoulder harness fitting over the girls.

Oh yeah! I had completely forgotten that Mission Space has a shoulder restraint. Again, I've never had a problem with it. No worries Princess, you're going to be just fine.

One reason I love WDW so much is because I can actually ride everything as a fluffy person! yay The only issue I really had was on BTMRR but that was just because I pulled the bar like one click too tight. I was nervous about Primeval Whirl and RNRC but they were both absolutely fine!!

I love that Disney makes their rides and attractions where everyone of all shapes and sizes can ride safely. I've had to duck out of rides at Six Flags way too much for my liking to the point where I just won't even go now. I'd rather use any money I'd spend there on my next Disney trip where I can do anything I want.

Both me and my DW have been to WDW whilst on the Fluffy side (left side of picture). The only ride we have ever had any sort of issue with was Jimmy neutrons Nicktoon Blast (now Despicable Me the ride) at Universal. We never even though about it at any point that we were there as Disney does such a great job of allowing all guests to enjoy everything .

I am tall (5'10") and my husband is 6'6" but I am also not petite (roughly the same size you stated and also working to get some off) but I have never had a problem with harness or knee space, nor has my 6'8" son.
