How did you surprise your kids that they were going to Disney?

So, as most of you know, I am leaving TODAY!!! I am traveling with my cousin and her husband and their 6 kids! My cousin, Keisha, didn't tell her kids till last night that we were leaving and I gave her lots of ideas on how to surprise them, but she went with her own, which turned out good! She wrote 1-6 on papers and paper 1 said: we are, paper 2: going, paper 3: to, paper 4: DISNEY WORLD, paper 5: for Christmas, paper 6: TOMORROW!. She told them they were drawing names to see who was buying who a present for Christmas. When they had all drawn, she had them read it off from 1-6 (whoever had one, read aloud first, whoever had 2, read second, etc.). They were so excited!! One of them looked at my cousin, and said , " Are you kidding? This is a really bad joke if you are.." laugh I wasn't able to be there unfortunately, but she videotaped it so I got to see it! Anyways, were leaving today and driving from Houston, stopping somewhere tonight and then, driving in on Wednesday (hoping we can find a hotel, as we were not supposed to check in to our hotel till Thursday). I will keep yall updated as much as I can.

So how'd you surprise your children with the great news?!?

Wow! You really are going to WDW! What a great tip for surprising kids, but I think that would work with people of any age. Anyone would be excited to hear about a WDW trip, right?

Do you guys have any plans for avoiding the crowds this weekend? And if you need us to look around online for hotels, let us know! mickey awesome

Thanks so much! I'm gonna agree with you that anyone would be really excited to go to Disney! If someone surprised me, I'd be ecstatic! We don't have any plans on avoiding the crowds just yet, but we're going on Christmas Eve and Christmas day and my cousin seems to think it won't be busy, and I keep telling her, "Never assume anything with Disney!" haha I'm pretty positive it's gonna be packed, but we'll see! On the hotel thing, we're gonna try to just get a day added at our original hotel (Hilton Grand on I-Drive), but with the holidays, we'll see if thats available. We haven't called yet just in case we end up staying somewhere on the road Wednesday too (ya never know when your traveling with 6 kids)! Thanks for the offer though, and I'll definitely keep yall updated on the trip!

I always thought MK was packed to capacity and the gates were closed by mid-morning on Christmas day.

Christmas/Christmas Eve will be packed...Tony's right. But as long as you're mentally prepared...Smile (I always give myself a little peptalk when I'm going into a busy place. Knowing is half the battle.)

The key to enjoying WDW at Christmas is not expecting to do much in the parks I think. There's plenty of other stuff to do.

I know a lady who once.......oh god..I should just find the YouTube video..anyway..she surprised her kids by letting them go out to the busstop (right in front of their house) and then had her husband trail the bus..once it got to their house she ran out screaming "Don't get on the bus!!!!!!!!!" and her kids just stared at her..so she kept screaming..until they GOT ON THE BUS..then she screamed again so they got OFF the bus..and then they cried.
Oh gosh it was classic.

Have a GREAT time!!

When my sister took her five children last summer, she just told them they were going on a road trip that was a surprise. When they pulled up and saw the Magic Kingdom, the girls screamed loudly and were so excited! She said the surprise was priceless!!

I'd think that might put a kid on overload. Was that their first trip there?

Yes that was their first trip. They were already in Florida for vacation in St. Augustine, and they drove to Orlando for the day to take them on a surprise trip to Disney. muchlove
