How much do you put Disney first?

I know that we are all pretty much Disney fanatics that would do anything for a trip..however I have been around Disney forums for awhile and I have seen people do some pretty crazy things in the name of Disney. Like getting your unemployment check and taking a Disney vacation..not that I am Judgey McJudgerson or anything..whatever makes you happy.

I was wondering..what do you put your Disney trips before. I'll give you an example...for us we are always good about paying our bills and stuff but if we get an extra bit of money we are more likely to save it for Disney than for something big that we might need..like a weed wacker. We have needed one for YEARS but we simply can't even envision ever wanting to spend money on one. We'd much rather save it for something fun. We are bad like that. So what kinds of things do you brush under the rug for a Disney fix.

I kind of sound like a drug addict here.

Clothes. And a grill. And lawn equipment. And new furniture.

We've also needed a new weed whacker and new hedge trimmers for 3-4 years but I can't bring myself to it. Everything gets converted into a Disney equivalent...."I could buy xx Disney pins for that" or "That's a night at CBR, hell no I won't buy it!".....

Note that we do have clothes - don't go thinking we're nudist. Not that there is anything wrong with that if that's your thing. We just don't buy new clothes very often or have a closet full of clothes. Or shoes.

Hmmmm... kinda like this topic. Not sure what we put before it to be honest. Well... Disney is the only thing we work extra for to be honest and we only use that money for Disney. Now... if we HAVE to use it for bills we do, but like the latest money is going to our plane tickets. The only thing that we needed lately is was a new tv, and we managed that. More on my end than anything... lol.

Oh.... I know one thing. Ive been needing to fix the air condition in my Explorer. Hasnt worked since last summer. Right now Jess's Dad is going to fix it (There is a leak somewhere) so hopefully we dont have to use Disney money to fix it... lol

When we go to Disneyland it's not a real big trip for us, usually a 1 day thing, so there isn't much overlook. This WDW trip however, LoL! We do have some debt that we are paying off that we could have put this money toward.. but it's our anniversary and we are still paying our bills so it doesn't seem so bad, haha.

I should probably put more money into my 401K rather than spend it on Disney trips. Disney is a lot more fun than saving money.

Very well said!

And Jeff I am glad that I am not the only one who puts Disney before lawn care! Those weed whackers are expensive.

Instead of being responsible and putting money from tax returns etc towards student loans or the mortgage we go to Disney Smile

Ugh. It's so true. We actually just picked bills over Disney. Money from tax returns (normally we don't get much back but for some reason we did this year - maybe the new kiddo? lol) is sitting in an account, to pay off a credit card at the end of the year when the interest starts accruing. How badly would I like to steal some for APs. Very badly. Yes.

I'm just the opposite, I guess. I look at what a week at WDW costs and start thinking about what else that money would do. (TV, refrigerator, IRA, several months mortgage, etc.) Things Disney seem so ephemeral -- it's all over in a week, and then you're back with the wonky TV, the refrigerator that won't quite close, the underfunded IRA, and the mortgage. That's why I'm here, though, hoping that some of all this enthusiasm rubs off on me.

I....totally get that. So maybe, for pixie-dust challenged people like us...it comes down to compromise? After all, in the bigger sense, TVs and fridges are ephemeral, too. If we think of it as the experience, or the food, or the ride, you're right. But the MEMORIES that we make - those last forever.

I really believe it's about balance. How zen of me! But seriously, demands of the day to day will NEVER end, and will ALWAYS be there. As long as we're not too irresponsible - say, blowing the kids' college fund, or picking a trip to Disney over a mortgage payment or groceries - I think you have to splurge, or go mad. Some of life is about having fun, right?

Hope that helps, DeaverTex - from one worrier to another. I really want y'all to get here. Can you tell? mickey

And....... I think this thread jinxed. We have to pay around $150-$200 to fix my air conditioning.... im hoping we worked overtime enough for it to not matter but ugggg..... Thank goodness I have parents that are understanding about all of that.

We didn't exactly make it..I got distracted by pretty porch furniture. But those pillows were INDOOR and OUTDOOR. That is simply amazing.

TOTALLY worth it! Because when you're a rich and famous lawyer, you can take all of your family - and friends! - to Disney Laughing out loud

Congrats on going to school, and what Lizzy says is so true!

I put Disney first so much that after going for the first time as an adult in 2008, I decided I wanted to go every year so I went back to school and have now graduated and have great job! Now I can afford the yearly trips I've been dreaming of muchlove

Best of luck to you Kayb, and to Bella's DH too!

oh the LSAT...I have never been so happy to have a test over in my life, I actually cried out of relief on the way home. But seriously any questions that I can answer I will Smile

Thanks JP and Lizzy_B...I just need to keep reminding myself!
