How to plan with a Premier annual pass?

So... we just booked a trip to go back to the world in Oct of 2015. We are using rented DVC points to stay at AKV. Our plan was to buy the Premier Annual Pass upon arrival. (For those unaware, a premier-annual-pass is good for all parks in CA & FL for 365 consecutive days with no blackouts) We live 45 mins from Disney in CA, so it makes a lot of sense for us.

Does anyone know how this might play into the whole fastpass+ game and magic band? I last went in 2012, so I haven't had to do any of that yet.

Im worried if we wait to buy the annual passes upon arrival, we'll have no FP reservations.... Any insight would be appreciated!

I am not sure if it will work the same with the Premier annual pass, but with our normal annual pass we have to purchase it 60 days in advance of our January trips. Once we purchase it, they give us a voucher number that can be used to book our fastpass + selections. We pick up our ticket at will call once we get there and it is dated for that date. We have been just renewing our annual pass that way but I would think it would work the same way to purchase one. So far, we have both only received one Magic Band as annual pass holders. Our 2015 annual pass has been purchased and paid for for well over a month and so far there is no mention on our Disney Experience site about getting a new one. Our Magic Bands for staying on property in January are due to ship very soon.

Carls, Im sure for you to do FP+, you will have to purchase your Premium passes in advance. You will get a voucher number to connect to your account and then you will pick up your hard ticket at will call when you get there. Otherwise, you will not be able to participate in the FP+'s prior to getting there. You have to have a valid ticket connected to your account to make Fastpasses.

OR.... you can purchase a multi-day ticket in advance; use it to secure FP+; then upgrade to a Premium Pass upon arrival...

All situations and trip details are different, but here is our experience from a couple months ago with a similar issue. We arrived in Orlando earlier than planned and tried to convert our tickets prior to our on-site stay, and did not want to lose our FP's. Towards the bottom of the postings is my recap of our happy ending.

Good luck.

Great info guys! Thanks for your help. I carlsbaddrew's wife! We are so excited for our second ever trip to the world this October. I've only been to WDW once for our honeymoon. I think the anticipation is even greater for this trip since I actually know how amazing and magical WDW is.

Truthfully... i thought Drew was a total dork for suggesting WDW for our Honeymoon... but he convinced me to go, and I am so so so glad I did! We are both Disney nuts now! Our friends don't "get it" but who cares! Smile

You'll have a fantastic time! Walt Disney World can be very romantic and it's always better when you get to share it with the one you love. Welcome to the forums! welcome

You definitely have to have some kind of admission pass already purchased to make FastPasses. We discovered this the hard way when the 60-day window opened for our Wilderness Lodge trip. I still have an annual pass (not premium), but hubby's AP had expired and we hadn't purchased a new pass for him yet. So I was only able to make my FPs, not his, until we got him a new ticket. Fortunately, I was later able to synchronize the timing of our FPs.

If money is a problem, you can get two length-of-stay passes now, make FPs using them, and then pay the extra bucks to upgrade at WDW. We did that last April, when hubby had an annual pass but I only had a length-of-stay pass.

Book Seven dwarfs as fast as you can... I never was able to FP that ride this past May. Unfortunately for us, we only had a 30 day window to chose FP's from, since we only had an AP and not staying on property. THe Firework show and parades go fast as well for the FP areas. Good luck!! awesome

BTW, What day does your FP window start?

On the phone with WDW customer service. The first lady I got was so lost Sad Poor thing. Very nice, but she seemed very overwhelmed by her job.

So after 3 calls, It looks like we'll be buying a 10day ticket and then upgrading to the premiere pass onsite. I hope our fastpasses stay intact. Everyone says they will!
