Trip Cancellations

I've got a return trip planned to the world that instead of reserving my FP+'s yesterday, I am unfortunately going to have to cancel. When I booked my trip, I purchased trip insurance with the Disney package. We always fly, and I have also purchased my airline tickets, although I did so independently of my Disney package, instead dealing directly with the airline and purchasing non-refundable first class tickets. waiting From all I can determine, I am likely to have to eat the cost of those tickets unless I can travel on rescheduled flights within a year of the original date of purchase, which was February 2015.

On to my question. Does anyone have experience with the Disney trip insurance, particularly if it would cover my airline ticket costs, or if not, are there any tricks I'm missing when dealing with the airline on how to recover at least part of the costs?

Sorry to here about you having to cancel your trip, that sucks! I can not help you with the insurance because we never fly. I have never heard of anyone on here ever having to use the trip insurance, or if they did, it was never mentioned.

Thanks Mr. Hub! That thread gave me the idea to see if it might be insured through my credit card, and I hadn't thought of that. I'm going to bump that thread and I'll give a few more details on my situation there. Thanks Again! awesome

If you purchased your travel insurance as part of a Disney package directly though Disney or through an authorized travel agent, your flights would only be covered in the event that you booked the flights as part of your Disney package. It doesn't sound like that is probably the case. If you purchased independent travel insurance, you'd have to check your documentation, but I would bet that your flight cancellations would be covered under that policy.

The only experience I've had with trip insurance in general is about two years ago when my parents had to cancel a cruise because my grandmother became ill. The insurance company was true to their word and with proper documentation, they were able to get a complete refund. They weren't flying, so unfortunately, I can't provide any insight to what happened there.

I did cancel and re-book flights for myself a few months ago. We were changing our departure day, partially because I found a less expensive flight for the night before. We had originally booked "Wanna get away" fares on Southwest, which are supposed to be "non-refundable", "non-transferable" and every other "non" in the book. Southwest did give us a credit of the full amount of the difference. We can't see that credit on an account anywhere, but just last week I used the confirmation number that they gave me to apply the credit to a new flight and it worked as advertised. The credit was still attached to the person for whom the flight was originally booked. IE I couldn't use DH's credit for my flight. I could only use mine.

So that's my current experience with travel plan changes, flights, and travel insurance in case any of it helps. Hopefully the credit card avenue will work out for you!!
