I feel like JeffC!

Because I'm going under the knife!

Snip, snip, tug, tug they are taking out my gallbladder because it is filled with stones. Apparently.

I've been having pains since January and finally Dave made me go to the doctor..and now they have to take the dang thing out. I won't have it out until late September because we start school August 15th and those of you who are teachers know that if I miss any time during the first six weeks of school my entire year will basically fall apart.

They told me it was either have it out...or accept a Vegan lifestyle. I said surgery please!

Has anyone ever done this before? Jeff?? Lol.

Ive had nothing major done. Had some knee surgery and both my wrists done to take calcium deposits out that the docs thought were cysts. So nothing that put me under...

Sorry to hear that Bella! But you will do fine!

Surgery is FUN! Ok, not really, but in the long run it certainly can help!

I've never had the gallbladder thingie, but with each of the 3 I had since December, I was put under and totally out. The neck was an overnight, and big incisions, but the knee and shoulder were outpatient and arthroscopic. Even though the actual procedures only took about an hour, it was a half-day event between getting there a few hours early for prep and having to stay an hour or 2 after before they would let you go. Here's my advice:

1. Do some research online about the procedure and what to expect, but don't get carried away. You will find opinions and experiences ALL over the board. Just remember everyone reacts differently and every surgeon has their method.

2. Absolutely listen to your doctor's advice post-surgery. If they tell you to rest and take it easy, do it. You will be thankful you did. Overdoing it will really be no bueno - and you usually don't even think you are overdoing it, but surgery of any kind really affects your body and you need time to heal properly.

How's that?

I am pleased to report that as of this Friday I will be completely done with all physical therapy for all surgeries! JeffC, Version 2.0, ready for action!

Bella, I had it done a long time ago. Back when the surgery was still primative lol. It really was not all that bad. You will be back up and running in no time.

Sorry you have to have surgery wheelchair Mike had his gall bladder out last yr over spring break and he was absolutely fine. Same day, we were home by 11:00 and he slept all day. Other than that, it was uneventful and routine. If yours is filled w stones, that may be another story, and may not be as simple as Mike's. He had the week off and went back to school the following week with not difficulties at all. If you need 6 weeks off it may be more complicated.
I had a hysterectomy last Christmas and went back to school 2 1/2 weeks later, when Christmas break was over. I was fine also. Again same day and no complications, just a little tired and sore for a couple days.
I know what you mean about starting the school year, I'm dreading it this year. I'll probably go to school later today to begin the process of unpacking (I moved from K to 2nd) and wrapping my brain around having to go to work again, and learning to teach 2nd - ahhh! I'll feel better if I get started early. Teachers go back the 15th, kids the 22nd.
Don't worry about it, it won't do any good but make you miserable.

Bella, if they're doing the procedure laproscopically, it should be easy peasy for you, and from what I understand, you'll feel much, much better afterwards. Keep up posted. muchlove

Thanks everyone! Just think--I can spend my recovery time here..reading all this wonderful TR's that all of you September people are going to entertain me with!

Yup, it's laproscopically..it's outpatient as well so I'll go in and be home in a few hours. They said I'll only need a week to recover. I told them I didn't have a week. He told me "Oh well". My principal is luckily very good natured about these things and would rather I be out than pass out dead from pain.

Julie, 2nd grade is so much fun! I love them to pieces..just think you won't have to teach them how to line up because they already know! I taught 4K my second year.....oh my stars....the term "herding kittens" comes to mind. I like the older kids. Good luck with the switch! Did you want to move--or did you get bumped? I was lucky this year--it was the first year in awhile I didn't get bumped around too much. I'm in the same grade this year (and the same room!) I'm just only teaching ELA and SS to 2 classes instead of having one class all day.

You will take your week and you will like it, Missy!! eek

I was surprised at how tired I got mid-day during the first several days afterwards. So do plan to take it easy - it will pay off in the long run!

At least you're able to schedule to have it out instead of an emergency operation - that's what my mom had about two years ago. She was in the hospital for a couple days (I think she had a fever and had to stay longer than normal), and had to take it easy for awhile after surgery and modify her diet a bit, but she hasn't had any issues since.

Be sure to remind us before you go in for the surgery so we can send good thoughts your way!

Had mine out in 2004 and from what I've read the surgery involves one less opening now, so less stitches/pain.

I had it on a Friday and was back to work on Tues/Wed if I remember right.

You'll feel like someone beat you up in the stomach. I needed help standing up the first day, but it's not too bad.
