I got a new job!!!

I just accepted a job as a Dean of Students at my current school! I'm SO EXCITED!!!! I've had my administrative license for a while but just been waiting for the "right" time. Well, I guess this is it! Today I went in and started clearing out my classroom and moving into my new office and of COURSE, there was already an issue on campus I had to deal with! Crazy!

Anyway, the great part is that I'm still technically under a teacher contract so I still get my leave days, so my Disney trips won't be impacted at all. Yay!

Thanks, everyone! Our kids start on Monday, so it'll be "rubber hits the road" time! I'm still not sure quite what to expect, but it'll be fun to have a new challenge!

So tara...how did it go? We had Curriculum night last night, and have the rest of the alphabet for the same tonight. Busy, but a great year thus far. School just never gets old for me. Tiring at times, but not really "old."

Whew! It's been a crazy few days! We had our team meeting today and separated duties, programs and projects, so I feel good about what's coming. These first few weeks are generally less busy, since we won't have attendance issues for a bit, or the support of failing kids quite yet, either.

Mostly, we (there are two of us) do attendance and discipline and anything related to that. And while we can't evaluate teachers like the official principal and assistant principals (there are 4), we will be doing a ton of coaching with new teachers and working with student teachers as well. Also, planning smaller events like our curriculum fair and back to school night. And we share a secretary, which is just WEIRD to me, after doing it all myself for 18 years.

Every day will be different. I make a plan and schedule meetings with the understanding that a fight or discipline issue could eat up my whole day. Today I went to a meeting, sent a TON of emails, lunch duty, met with some teachers, and worked on a program I work with that I'm keeping. I like that, though...sometimes teaching can get pretty monotonous, even with new students or new books, I tend to feel "in a rut" by Christmas.

But mostly, I won't have to GRADE ESSAYS anymore!

Ha! People at school keep giving my husband a hard time because he's a teacher and now I'm the "boss"...um...I'm the boss already.

We are basically just like assistant principals (I have a principal license) but in this role, there is no evaluation of teachers.
