It's Tough To Be A Bug - or NOT!

Katie has made an attempt at convincing me I should see It's Tough To Be A Bug at Animal Kingdom.

I HATE bugs, seriously, once when I live in an apartment and my husband wasn't home I was paralyzed with fear for a good 5 minutes before I ran past a spider, out the door and down the hall to get a male neighbor to come kill it for me. It's a real phobia. I'm generally not a fan of anything that creeps or crawls or buzzes. Especially if there are large masses of them crawling all over each other ... uuuuuugh ... I can't even type about this.

Cartoon bugs, fine. Anything "real" NO WAY.

Am I right to think that there's no way I can handle this attraction?

I think I may tend to agree with disneydoc on this one. They are NOT real but they could give you a REAL scare. eek

But they're Disney bugs!!

Seriously though, it's probably a good idea to pass on this ride as you may get poked from behind. Doesn't sound like you would appreciate the humour in that!

The onscreen bit only had me shut my eyes once. I'm ok with insects - ie 6 legs but add on 2 legs and that is me done.

I too have run out of my flat to my neighbour before now, and once on holiday accosted a man walking past and I was so scared I did not even realise I was just in a nightshirt!

I would say on this basis that it's a wise choice to skip it, I would do it again but like I say there is only really 1 bug that I can't do, if it were more than that I would be avoiding it also.

The only thing that'll make you jump are the seats...I'm not a big fan of insects or spiders and the like, but this is a very Disney version of the bug world - you'll be fine...moreorless!

I'd pass if you genuinely have a phobia, and it sounds as if you do... eek

Thank all! That's pretty much what I thought. I may walk the queue with her to get some pictures of the tree, but it's the chicken exit for me!

My mum HATES bugs especially spiders. She did it, I just told her when to close her eyes when the spiders were on the screen/hanging from the ceiling. I hate bugs of all description (I can't relax outside in the sun cause I am constantly twitchy in case a bug lands/crawls on me) but I find it fine.

The bugs in there are definitely 'cartoon bugs', I'd probably say give it a go. My mum doesn't even like cartoon spiders so didn't like the furry guy on screen.

I'm not a fan of bugs, but I got through the attraction just fine. That being said, if this had been an attraction about snakes, the way that this is done would have completely freaked me out. So if you're just not a bug fan because ew bugs are icky, you're probably ok. If you actually have a fear of bugs, use the chicken exit.

Hold the phone! They have spiders HANGING FROM THE CEILING??????

Never doing that show again. I always close my eyes for the spiders, but I'm not even going in if there are spiders hanging from the ceiling.

Oops Sad If you sit at the back they don't hang over you, it's more the front and middle.

I didn't mind the ENORMOUS insects myself but my wife would have had kittens, especially the scene featuring the giant black widow spiders.

I don't like bugs either and I am terrified of spiders... These are so big I know they are not real... now, if they were smaller real looking bugs even fake, I would hate it... I actually like the show.

I've never done the show myself and by the looks of it, I probably shouldn't though I never really enjoyed A Bug's Life very much in the first place. In real life, flying insects scare and bother me a lot more than spiders or other insects.

I know for some families with young children, even Mickey's Philharmagic can be pretty scary and overwhelming and one tip I read somewhere is that if they get too scared or overwhelmed, it's fine to let them take off their 3D glasses and just watch the film without them. You may want to seat towards the end of the rows for easy exiting. Granted, the film may be distorted in a way but no one is going to pay attention to someone who isn't wearing their 3D glasses because odds are, they're so focused and into the film to even notice other people. So I would think these same principles can apply to It's Tough to be a Bug. Otherwise, if you want to skip it, then by all means, skip it.

I'm scared of bugs too and do fine on this attraction. It's all "cartoon bugs", you may just want to sit forward on the edge of your seat at the end when they announce for the bugs to leave the theater first. I also have never noticed the spiders hanging from the ceiling (I usually sit in the first couple of rows) so that might be a different story. That being said, if you're at all worried I would skip it. This attraction just isn't on my must do list every trip (more like a one and done) so it's definitely not worth it if you're concerned.

If bugs really make you freak out, I would skip this totally. (If it was about snakes I would not go near it. No way, no how!)
