I've waited so long!!!

Finally planning a trip in August. Meeting family there and staying at the Animal Kingdom hotel for a week. SO looking forward to spending the week there...it's something I've always wanted to do. August is a horrible time to go, but the only time I could get off work. Learning a lot about how to work things out by reading these forums. I have a bum knee and am worrying about the cost of renting a wheelchair for 5 days. Anyone with any ideas, I'm all ears. LOL mickey

Welcome Crystal! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time: AKL is a beautiful resort!! Wheelchair rentals are $12/day in each park with I believe a $100 refundable deposit, but I know you can get a bit of a discount if you pay for all your days up-front with a Length of Stay rental. You could also rent from an outside company, but I'm not sure if there are any that are any cheaper. The good with that, though, is that you would be able to use your wheelchair to and from the parks and in the resort, if that's important to you--the ones rented in the parks have to stay in the park.

welcome

Yes, there are some services that will deliver a wheelchair to the resort for you to use your entire stay, and they will pick it up when you are done. I am not sure what that cost is though.

Ugh. Bum knees are no fun at WDW!! Highly recommend an ECV over a wheelchair, although that is a little more expensive, but SO much easier for you and your traveling party. If you rent offsite, I do believe only certain companies are allowed to deliver to the resorts (or at least deliver to the resorts without you actually being there to accept the delivery). Not sure if that applies to wheelchairs as well as ECVs.

Welcome to the forum!! Can't wait to hear more about your trip!

I also agree that an ECV is the way to go over a wheelchair! It's surprisingly hilly at WDW and if you're not used to pushing yourself an ECV is a much better way to go. The ones rented in park can be expensive ($50 a day with an added $20 deposit).

Last week I had a rental ECV from Buena Vista Scooters, their service was fantastic and I couldn't have been happier with it.

My only word of caution is that if you get the extra basket added on the back of the scooter, it doesn't fit on the older Disney buses lifts, however it's fine on the newer buses that have a ramp you drive up.

Welcome!! And YAY for the Disney trip!

I do not have any insight on the wheelchair situation--I was scared to death I was going to have to use one on the last trip because I injured my foot. However, I opted to just limp all day. After a little bit of Disney magic, I didn't even feel the pain anymore! I am sure the other people here have great advice, though!

Ooh! Animal Kingdom Lodge...that's going to be a blast! Are you springing for the savannah view? I think ANY room in AKL would be wonderful! We've eaten at Sanaa there and it's wonderful! Have heard great things about Boma and Jiko, too!

Congrats on your upcoming trip, welcome to the forum, and sorry about your bum knee!!
