Well here it is again. Pre-trip Report time. I have been patiently awaiting this trip and hoping Joe wouldn't change his mind since he told me to book it. While I am the Disney-fanatic in this house, I am slowly bringing him around to my way of thinking and when HE suggested Disney for HIS 40th birthday, I clicked the button to book it before he could finish saying "do it"! When we were talking the other night, I said I didn't know what to get him for his birthday. He said "well, you know I like golf, hockey, the Penguins, shirts and Disney." I about fell off the couch! Anywho, I digress... Here we goooooo...
It's just me and Joe traveling this time. Me " 40 and happy for him to be somewhat catching up to me in age and Joe, actually turning 40 the day before we head down. He is an avid golfer and the purpose of this trip was for him to hit a couple of his bucket list courses in the area. It was his suggestion to stay at AKL (our first DVC stay). The plans that stand now are:
Tuesday Sept 15 (his birthday) My dad is coming into town to keep Blondie. He will be staying at our house since we live about 5 minutes from her school. We were wanting to leave this day but dad can't get here until that evening. I am hoping I am off work so that I can get everything done and cook a good birthday dinner.
Wednesday Sept 16 Wake up early. I am setting an alarm this time!!! I want to just grab a bite for breakfast and make it to Orlando for lunch. Not too sure about this yet as we are both on diets and fried chicken for lunch along with our dinner plans may be a bit much. We are going to TRY hit The Coop in Winter Park. www.asouthernaffair.com It is owned by the same guy who has our other favorite restaurant in FL, 4Rivers Smokehouse. I am pretty excited about this since it would be our first time! After that, we are going to head over to The Character Outlet to see if we can find some good deals. We then check into our home for the evening. Bay Hill Club and Lodge. We will be heading out to Giordano's for dinner then turning in after a long day of travel and delicious eats! www.giordanos.com
Thursday Sept 17 Another early morning. This time for golf. I'm not sure yet of the tee time or if they are going to let him play as a single or pair him with someone. Either way, I will probably ride along with him. I like going to the different courses with him and taking pictures of him as he plays and of the courses themselves. After his round, IT'S TIME TO HEAD TO ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE!!!!! I have already checked in online. I requested a Sunset Savannah View, I hope it's a good choice. We will then head to AK for the rest of the day. We will try to wait until we get to AKL or AK to grab a bite to eat. I have fast passes picked out. I'm not sure if we will make the first one (I am not counting on it) but I don't mind waiting for a show if we don't. We have
12:30-12:50 FotLK
2:30-3:30 Expedition Everest
3:30-3:50 Finding Nemo
The exciting part is next! We head to the Grand Floridian this evening for the Fireworks Cruise with some of the WDWFGU! I was going to make this a surprise for Joe but I just couldn't keep it in.
Friday Sept 18 Joe is going to be playing golf locally, Isleworth. He's talked about this course since we met. I know he is really excited. I am going to hang back at the resort and do my own this this morning. I may meet up with Mr Hub and Scrappy in MK for some breakfast and I'm considering Keys to the Kingdom. I can't decide. I would really like to do the tour with Joe so I am still up in the air on it. More fast passes for this day which are
2:35-2:50 Frozen Sing Along
4:15-5:15 Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
5:25-6:25 Tower of Terror
I am quite sure Joe is most looking forward to the Frozen Sing Along! Since I didn't select a 3rd option, this is what it plugged in for us!
Tonight is the birthday boy's dinner. We went round and round making a selection on this. He wanted Cali Grill but since we did that for my 40th I wanted something different... I know I know, it's his birthday blah blah blah LOL. We looked over menus for days then someone posted pics on the Foodies website for Yachtsman and we were done.
Now, the UN-magical part... If you remember from our cruise TR, Joe is a lover of plain cheesecake. I made that happen on the ship, in the middle of the ocean. This should be super easy at Disney World, right??? NOPE. I consulted with the experts and was given a number to call. The Special Order Cake line or something like that. They young lady I spoke with (I wish I had gotten her name before I hung up) was given my specifics. We are having dinner at the YS on 9/18/15 @8:20. I see the menu only has chocolate or lemon cheesecake. Is there a way to get a plain one or even just one piece. I was on hold for quite some time. She did come on the line once telling me she was making calls. Finally I got a no mam, we can't do that. Only White Chocolate and Lemon are available. No sorry, no have a magical day, NOTHING. Honestly, if it weren't for "For the First Time in Forever" playing while on hold, I would have never thought I had called Disney. Needless to say, I was devastated. I didn't give up. I emailed the help desk on Disney.com and got a response with a different number. Again, no luck but I did get "have a magical day" at the end of the call. I finally went on to the Floral and Gifts website and emailed a Dream Maker. Well that they did!!! I now have a PLAIN cheesecake (not even the fruit that comes as decoration) ordered!!! It's an 8" and it was $40.00.
Saturday Sept 19 Early morning again? YEP! This time we are driving down to Streamsong www.streamsongresort.com for another day of golf. I actually discovered this course and he has wanted to play it since he saw pictures. I am going with him because I really want to photograph this course! It's beautiful and I hope it lives up to it in person.
That evening I have fast passes set up for MK
4:05-5:05 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
5:15-6:15 Jungle Cruise (first time!)
8:15-9:15 Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
After I want to try to get into the Grotto for a bit if it's not to packed! If it is, then I guess I will have to have a Lapu Lapu up at Tambu...
Sunday Sept 20 It's check out day... Breakfast is at Boma at 9:15. After we head to Epcot for our Soarin' fastpass. Yep, just the one... We wanted to fit it in and this is the only time we will have. Then the long (not so sad cause I will be back on Thursday) ride home.
I'm really looking forward to this trip since it will be our first DVC visit and we get to do a few things off property. Can't wait to report live from the bubble again!
