The Magic Of Disney..

Ok, so I'am curious on your views on this topic..A little bit about myself...Didn't go to WDW until 2004.. My first feelings were anything but excited..We had been touring the Greek Islands for years, and even got married on Crete..So this trip to Florida was kinda my DW idea as our DS was six years old and would enjoy it..What I didn't expect was it was me who was blinded by the pixie dust..I fell head over heels on this magical land..Friends back home would laugh when I told them of my love for Disney...It wasn't until I started hosting Disney parties in my house that others would see what I was talking about..Now it's a passion that has been passed on to many friends who tell their friends and so on..My next Disney party is on the 21st of December, and I hope to have at least 14 friends attending..We share stories, and watch vacation DVDs...Of course we have a buffet of various foodie stuff and drinks..It is these nights that I love that keeps my Disney passion high...So for those who are so far away from the magic, how do you keep the magic alive..?.. Wink

I tried to do a Disney party on New Year's Eve one year and our sucky friends all ditched us at the last minute. I haven't wanted to try again because I still feel sad about it. We were going to do pin trading and do pin the bow on Minnie (likely inebriated which I think would have been a kick) and watch Disney movies and maybe even play Disney trivial pursuit. (My friends are actually really awesome and don't think that my Disney obsession is weird, but we had a perfect storm of illness, visiting relatives, and work schedule changes that derailed our party.)

I stay in the spirit by reading and posting on this message board which I feel so fortunate to have recently found. I also read allears.net, disney parks blog, and wdwinfo. I watch the DISunplugged podcast every week. I'm not a huge fan of the moderator, but I really like the rest of the folks who contribute. I feel like Sean and Craig would be some of my best friends if I knew them in real life. I also like to draw & paint Disney characters and watch Disney movies (mostly animation, but I do have a few classic live action favorites) and I do online pin trading at pinpics.com and buy myself the occasional pin present from ebay.

My favorite things to do involve sharing the magic with others. I love to hear about trips that friends have taken and I relish the times when they will let me give them touring advice! My parents are accompanying us to WDW in April, so I have been sending them an email every day with a little bit of Disney Magic to prepare them for our trip. My mom has printed every story and organized it in a binder.

I'm pretty much thinking about Disney 24/7...

Hi DisneyDee, the only pin I have for trade on your wants list is Winnie the Pooh The ABC's of me. You have several that I'm interested in. I'm hliska03 on pinpics. Take a look when you get a chance and let me know if you're interested in any of my other traders. I like to trade multiple pins at a time just because the shipping is so crazy! It's too bad our trips don't overlap--we'll only miss you by 5 days!

I'm fortunate enough to be two hours away by plane, so I go about two times a year.

I've got WDW music on my iPod just in case I feel the need for a boost. Our house is Disney-fied. I get on these boards to give advice and share my expertise. Right now for my Principles of Management class we're working on a paper, and we were asked to choose a specific company, so my group gave in to me and we're doing Disney Parks and Resorts. And having so much fun doing it! We spent time watching a video of a water slide and my World of Color video. I get daily emails from another site about Disney news and regularly check up on the company. I want to work for Disney, hopefully in their marketing department.

Cheers folks for your answers..Yeh, the Disney parties are fun..I try not to get many kids ( Boo ) as once I had about 12 of them running riot..( Hide the crystal ) But it's mostly an adult party..Everyone brings drink and food stuff which I heat up..And it's a mixture of telling stories, watching others vacation DVDs,and swopping tips and ideas.. yay

LoL... We kind of eat, sleep, and breathe Disney in our house. I write about Disney, read about Disney, ABC is the network that's usually on our TV. The kids wear clothes and costumes with Disney Characters. The kitchen has lots of Disney coffee mugs we use, we have a mickey shaped egg ring, and my bottle opener is mickey. My daughter usually has Disney Radio playing in the office. My other daughter is constantly on the hunt for natural hidden mickeys. There are many versions of Duffy the Disney Bear in my bedroom. I ran out of shampoo in the shower this week - so I dug Disney Resort mini shampoos out of the stash I have. Yes - even my hair smells like Disney right now. Tonight I'm going to a press preview and cocktail party for Saving Mr. Banks. I'll be carrying a Mickey Mouse purse.

Some days - I feel the need to have something in my life that is not Disney! We're a fairly pixie dusted family.

I didn't go to WDW until 2005, when I was well, well past childhood, and even well past young-adult-with-little-kidshood (we have no kids, actually). WDW actually didn't exist until I was in my late teens (go ahead, do the arithmetic), so I never got to go as a child, and as an adult I figured, ho hum, why go all the way to Florida when we have amusement parks nearby. Since that first trip I've been Disney crazy. I use this forum and other Disney-related websites to stay in the spirit. Trip planning helps as well, even when I don't have a trip scheduled.

I've never hosted a Disney party per se, but I've done mini Food and Wine Festivals. Made a few things from the festival cookbooks, purchased a few other things like frozen empanadas and pot stickers to make it a little easier. Fun times. And this week, since I skipped our planned trip to stay home with a sick cat, I've been replicating park and resort food so at least I get to eat Disney-like. Today I had a lobster roll a la Columbia Harbor House for lunch, and I'm doing teriyaki salmon reminiscent of the Epcot Japan pavilion's counter service restaurant for dinner.

I grew up visiting WDW once or twice per year. It was the only vacation destination we frequented. (My parents always asked us where we wanted to go and WDW was always the answer) The magic has always been there for me. Now, when I walk in the Magic Kingdom for the first time, I picture myself on my dad's shoulders watching the parade or eating ice cream. The childhood memories always come back to me. It is very special.

I was fortunate enough to visit WDW twice in 2012 and once in 2013. Before that, I had not been since 2006. I graduated high school in 2005 and went to college so our Disney trips stopped. I keep the magic alive by visiting this website, living vicariously through trip reports. We watch Disney movies and listen to Disney music, including the park music. We shop at the local Disney store and from time to time, I plan a "pretend" trip on the Disney website and just dream....

To put it simple terms: I go here, follow all the latest news about the Disney parks, search YouTube videos for anything Disney World related for park news, vacation vlogs, etc, check on the food blogs every once in a while and listen to Disney park music.

I plan imaginary trips, too, Eeyore! I can ALMOST convince myself that I can make them happen!

But I am in live with the idea of hosting Disney parties and food and wine fests, Mittens and CrazyCat! That just sounds like fun!!
