Man vs. Food

Since a lot of us like Top Gear, I was curious what other shows we all enjoy. Vettelover mentioned Man vs. Food and I've found that this is a pretty universally liked show. I talk to people at work about it all the time. So who all watches Man vs. Food and what challenge do you think looks the most plausible?

I don't think we het Man vs Food in the UK. We do get Mythbusters though clapping

I have seen several episodes of this show, but try not to watch it on a regular basis. The host seems like such a likeable guy, and I don't want him to die prematurely, which he surely will if he continues to eat like this. It's like watching a slow-mo train wreck.

(Love Mythbusters!)

Solo -- I always wonder about those competitive eater guys. Especially the ones who are really skinny. What goes ON in there!

You fear that you might be contributing to his undoing by improving his ratings? A definite possibility. I still watch. Since I'm pretty sure eating like that would be the end of me, I figure I should leave it to the professionals.

I love this show. It's really fun when they visit a town you know. I liked watching the San Antonio episode. Some people I know down there keep bragging they're going to go try the "Four Horseman" burger, but they never seem to make it. wink

Me too! He recently went to a favorite restaurant near my college town and ordered the super hot buffalo wings! It was so fun to see the place I'd spent so much time while I was in school.

We too enjoy that show. The recent 'stuffed pizza' episode where he had a partner for the challenge was really cool.

Was that the one where the kid had already completed the challenge once before?

That's the one.

I find myself disappointed, a little too disappointed, when he comes up short. Episodes like this are awesome. It's weird, almost like your favorite sports team won.

I agree. I think it's great that you really don't know which way it's going to go. Although they give away a lot with the editing. There was one where he was eating breakfast and he ate about 5/6ths of it in no time and you thought there was no way he was going to fail and he just couldn't get the last bit down.

I know what you mean about editing. They always play it up like he's struggling when he's going to make it and they always play it up like he's having no problem when he's going to fail. Typical "reality TV" editing approach.

I think they're kind of running out of challenges. They're getting a bit more over the top. The one where he and a team ate the 100 lb burger, or whatever it was, was kinda boring for me. He should just go back and try to do the ones he failed at the first time again!

I agree it did nothing for me waiting

Really like the idea of some episodes where he goes back and tries the ones he failed at the first time. They'd have to find new b-roll and "intro" footage, though...

That's a great idea! I'd love to see that.

All right, who's got a pen? We're writing a pitch for the food network!

He actually did go back and try the wings he did on the "pilot." I think he managed them the second time, does anyone remember?

LOL! True enough. I wonder if he has a team that includes a doctor to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't kill himself eating?

I was watching a "best of and behind the scenes" episode recently where he was talking about what was going through his head during the challenges -- very interesting. I didn't see the whole thing, though, so not sure if he has a doc on set. I wouldn't be surprised if he did!

There's a lot of risky stuff going on honestly. Choking hazards at the least and I don't know what kind of harm you can do with spicy stuff. Or maybe I'm just overcautious.
