mission space.... a go or a no?

So I was all excited about Mission Space until I got online last night and started reading about each ride at WDW.. haha! Yes I know I'm trying to pass the time until our trip!

Anywho... when I read that it leaves a lot of people feeling sick and with headaches for the rest of the day I told the hubs that I'm definately NOT riding it now. I was planning on doing the less intense side anyway, but I am VERY prone to motion sickness (tea cups are a big NO NO for me!)...

anyone else ridden MS that has motion sickness issues??

The more intense side made me turn green around the gills but no such reaction with the "tame" side.

I can't do anything that goes in circles or I'm done, but I have done Mission space several times, both sides and I never had a problem. I would try the less intense side first If I were you though. See how you like that.

They used to bring astronauts in training to ride this ride from NASA, so when the ride first came out, it was really intense. I road it then and "WOW". I don't think the intense side is near what it used to be like.

Can you say, "Vomit Ride"? This is a BIG NO WAY! My husband went on this and was sick for the rest of the day. I don't do spinning in circle rides either.

I can't do simple spinning rides as a rule but with Mission:Space you don't feel the spinning, just the push in your back from the G-force (on the exrtreme side anyway, I've never done the other side). They tell you to keep looking at the screen to help avoid motion sickness. This is the same effect you get in a car if you don't look out of the window often enough, for example if you read while travelling.

Mrs T doesn't like intense rides with the exception of RNRC but she's fine with the green path on Mission: Space.

I don't get motion sick on anything! but Mission:Space made me feel pretty queasy. I do agree though, I felt better when I just stared at the screen. you can't feel the spinning at all just weightlessness. I would like to try the less intense side!

We did the green but found it too tame and really all that pre video thing is ridiculous....they make it sound sooooo scarey and intense when in fact it is not. We then went on the orange side and I would equate that to the presure I felt riding down expedition everest. I was pinned back to the seat and could barely move. You don't even know you are spinning unless you think about it. Concentrate on what is on the screen and enjoy it! It is a great ride!

I have not rode it yet because I always try to find something I can ride with my daughter she's still too short but my husband and son have rode it and love it! They have never been queasy from it. They ride the intense side and its probably one of my son's favorite rides in Disney.

I rode the green side with my parents and even my stepdad (who got sick on ToT) was fine. However, me & my mom have pretty extreme claustrophobia so we started to freak out a little when they shut the "door" down onto us.

I know a couple of my friends have had problems with it. One of my old roommates rode the green side and was motion sick for a few days. Another guy I know rode it and when it said "going into hyper sleep, don't close your eyes!" he closed his eyes...bad idea. He was motion sick for days and it ruined the rest of his day at Epcot.

Even though I know I'm ok to ride it, after hearing their horror stories I vowed to never ride it again. I would hate to ride it and ruin my day/vacation. So if I were you and got sick on Teacups, I would stay farrrr away.

My Dad has to avoid the Tea Cups like the plague, and anything that goes backwards BUT he can go on the more intense side of Mission Space. No idea why this is, but it doesn't bother him at all!

They have toned down the ride an awful lot. I went on it not long after it first openend and it was 100x more intense back then!

you know something else I thought of. They give you a job when you are on your "mission". I did lose the queasiness if i focused on my job and not on the spinning. I enjoyed that aspect of it.

My goodness, the first year they opened that up and we did it - the first and only ride where I thought (a) i am going to die and (b) if I don't die I think I wish I would have. It was INTENSE! I had a headache for a few hours after that.

We've re-ridden since they tamed it down. Last time there we did the Orange side (more intense) and I did not feel sick or get a headache. It was definitely toned down from the original experience. We have not done the green side yet, so I can't compare. It's becoming one of those rides that I don't really care if we do it or not.

I was terrified to ride that ride the first time we went. This was before there was a "less intense" side. I have claustrophobia and I really hate spinning. It was OK..I did not get sick but it wasn't something I wanted to ride over and over. They blow cold air in your face during it (at least it seems that way). That helped me a lot. The last time we went I tried the less intense side and liked it much better. For one, I could move my head around and look at things. I prefer the whimpy side but I would ride the other side if the line was much shorter!

ummmm.. no.. I heard from way too many people while we were there that they got sick even on the green side, so I had no desire to take the risk.

I'm claustrophobic, but my sister said she thought i'd be fine...she sucked up to me the rest of the day after i was shaking and bawling at the end of the ride. haha I definitely do not recommend for anyone with issues about tight spaces. My husband does not usually get nauseous or sick with the spinny rides, but he was queasy after this one.

Yeah I think the claustrophobia issue is much worse than the motion sickness on this one.

I deff agree with the people complaining about claustrophobia. I'm a bit claustrophobic and when I went on MS a few yrs ago, I HATED it! It was so small and cramped. Also, it made me feel sick to my stomach. Deff going to stick to Test Track, haha! awesome

I was thinking about riding the "tame" side on our next trip, but after reading all these posts, I'm thinking I'll probably pass.

I've never had a problem with either version of the ride. I would suggest trying "green" and seeing how you like it, and if you're okay with that, then try orange. The only difference with the orange is the spinning, which is such an awesome feeling the first time you ride. It literally feels like you're being pushed down.

I love this ride and will only do the orange side. I have only ridden the less intense side once and considered it a complete waste of time.

I also see folks saying the orange or intense side has been tamed down since the opening, but I don't know if that's the case. I can't see or feel anything tamer. It's as much of an E-ticket ride now as it was when it opened in 2003.

Just did a quick internet search and can't find any information on changes made to the ride, beyond the start of the orange/green options in 2006. I really think orange side may still be the original ride.

On a personal note, I ride all the e-ticket rides as often as I can each trip, but I won't go near those teacups.
