MNSSHP for adults

A question for all of you disney experts.

I have heard and read some conflicting reports on MNSSHP and whether it is worth visiting or not and I am trusting your advice to guide me in the right direction.

My husband and I would be going just the two of us (we are DINKS) we are not HUGE Halloween people but we are not offended by the holiday and do enjoy celebrating it when the opportunity arises. Will 2 adults enjoy the Party or is it mainly aimed at children?

We would probably go Tuesday Sept 20 (tuesdays are lighter crowds than friday right?) I am hoping that it is still far enough in advance that the crowds wont be crazy out of hand. How are the crowds generally for the party...I have heard that are crazy busy and basically you wont see any bit of the park...and I have heard they are super light and it is a great time to ride some of the major attractions (AHHHH)

Is dressing up required for a good time? I know that it isnt required for the event, but would we have more fun in costume (or when you are trick-or-treating will the CM look at you like I do the teenagers that come to my door in a hoodie and expect a free handout) Plus my husand is a little weary of the idea of dressing up...especially if we are the only grown ups doing it. Not to mention airline baggage fees are expensive...the less luggage the better!

Finally...what are some of the great MK rides to do at night? Are there any that are better at night than during the day?

You guys are so great...I check this forum everyday for new news. I cant wait to try all of the food that you show pictures of. I feel like I gain 10 pounds just looking at it.

Thanks so much!

I doubt the crowds will be that bad. I know people who have gone without a costume and they still had a fun time (and got a lot of good candy wink ). But dressing up is a lot of fun too!

Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain are both a lot of fun at night! And Space Mountain doesn't usually have crazy long lines, especially later in the night. mickey

Hi L!

I can give you my perspective - we went to MNSSHP in 2009 right around the latter part of September. We are 2 adults, no kids, and I don't really get into or care about Halloween.

In my opinion, in September the crowds are not bad at all for the party - not crazy. I think it gets crazier the closer you get to Halloween day. You should be able to roam the park and ride many of the rides. I agree with kaybe about SM and TM, but also thing the tomorrowland transportation authority ride is fun, as you get to see everything at night.

We had a BLAST. You would be surprised at how many adults dress up for the event. I don't think it is just aimed at the kids. It's not required to dress up to have fun - I did wear my Pirate Mickey ears though. The CMs will not give you any looks either way.

The parade is pretty cool - the riding of the headless horseman is very neat Smile.

We were going to be going this year on September 20, coincidentally! But we had to cancel the trip. I have 2 adult tickets for the event for September 20 that I need to unload. Feel free to PM me if you decide you want to go and might be interested in discounted tickets. They are not specific to us, just the date of the event.

I think you will have a great time just the two of you. My wife and I went last October and we had a fabulous time. You are correct in assuming that weeknights such as Tuesday are not as crowded and busy as weekends but Disney caps the number of tickets that are sold for each night at a very manageable number. We did not dress up in any costumes and saw MANY other people not in costumes and many in costumes some of them very elaborate. The CM really do not care if you are in costumes and all they care about is shelling out those "treats" as fast as they can. At the cost of luggage fees these days I think most of the people who travel on planes can't spare the space to pack costumes for the 4 or 5 hrs. of time they are allowed to be worn in the park. When we went we were talking and joking with several CMs and really got them laughing when we told them we WERE in costumes and we were dressed as 'old people on a fixed income'. Also the special fireworks and the parade featuring the"Headless Horseman" are great. The Haunted Mansion is a must do during MNSSHP the CMs really go all out and get special makeup to make your experience special. So to sum it all up "try it you'll like it". Also you had better like candy because if you do the trick or treating stations you will wind up with literally POUNDS of the stuff.

I agree with everyone else. It is worth going to. We did not dress up nor did we do many of the candy stations but we had a great time. We went in September and it was not crowded at all. Give it a try!

I appreciate all of your advice so much! You all told me exactly what I wanted to hear.

I think we will add it to our itinerary. My husband just said "I don't know how we are going to fit anything else in on this trip" Oh where there is a will there is a way!

Thanks again!

One more stupid question...do they give you trick-or-treat bags, or should I bring the pillowcase from my hotel wink

Yes they supply the bags and though they are not very large, you can get more if needed.

I was really hoping to go to this but it doesn't look like we are going to have the time for it.. We are 2 adults without kids but we are BIG on Halloween.

We are thinking about it as we will be there on the starting night of September 13, but we are still on the fence as well.

They give you trick or treat bags. I still have mine around here somewhere. I went last October and it was just me and the hubby. It's a really neat experience for all ages. I'm not big into Halloween either but I def love the way Disney does it.

I probably posted this before somewhere, but here's a pic of our loot from 2009 - 6+ pounds! The bag to the right is the one they gave us at the start of the party.

We've done it before..just the DH and I and we had such an amazing time. We are into Halloween..BUT..even if we weren't the short lines are incentive enough. We rode Splash Mountain 4 times without getting off..we could have ridden a 5th but we were cold.

Very true, the lines are amazingly short. I was able to ride Peter Pan with almost no wait and that always seems to be a LONNNNG wait when the park is open to everyone.

I cannot recommend this enough. My husband and I have gone twice (sans kids and costumes) and always have a great time. The lines are short, the parade is fantastic, and it gives you the opportunity for some character Meet and Greets that you might not have a chance to get otherwise.

Plus, CANDY!

I hadn't thought about that..September dates will probably be particularly empty.

So I showed my husband the photo of the candy...and he couldn't believe it. I think we both got a sugar rush just from looking at the photo! I will probably hog it and not let him eat any...but I guess he is used to that Smile

You can BOTH get some..you'll each get a bag...and they really don't limit you..so chow down! And it's usually real candy too..not gross imitation candy.

I am so going to MNSSHP. Must remember to buy ticket.
My 1 Goal: to bring home more candy than Jeff did.
My 2 Goal: Photo with all seven dwarfs.
