MNSSHP question

We have never seen the Halloween party at the Magic Kingdom, and are wondering if it's worth buying tickets. How do they make sure that only ticket holders are in the MK after 7 p.m.? If you are in the park sooner, can you stay and watch the parade, etc. anyway, just not do the rides? Since we wouldn't want to "trick or treat" anyway, just watching the parade would be enough for us.

I am not really sure how they handle that. I do remember cast members pointing to our wrist and wanting to see our band a few times but I do not remember exactly where we were or what we were doing. I do know we were not trick or treating nor were we trying to get on rides.

When we check in to our hotel we buy a ticket for the night we want to go to the party. Normally, we are already in the park, using our 'key to the world'. Later went Belles Garden and handed over the separate MNSSHP ticked/card, a cast member scans it, then fits your wristband. At 7 pm, cast members start to fan out and walk through the crowds asking for everyone without a wristband to exit the part, there are also tannoy announcements. If you have purchased a ticket for MNSSHP you can enter the park from 4pm and do the park as normal. The main stuff doesn't til a bit later, but the cast members are checking for wristbands on all of the rides from 7pm and there are still some roaming the park.

Trick or treating is fun, but probably the best stuff happens around The Haunted Mansion. Photopass locations and effects change for the event and the fireworks and castle show are so different from normal nights. Characters also differ, as the Disney Villans come out on these nights, the Queen of Hearts for example. The final parade is my favourite, with graveyard dancers, the headless huntsman and skeleton band is great, and the whole atmosphere is worth it, the candy is just a bonus.

The last time we went to MNSSHP it was late enough in the day when we went in that we got our bands when entering the park. I do not remember the other times how we got the bands.

The last time I was at WDW, I was in the Magic Kingdom twice on MVMCP nights, but did not have tickets either night. At 7:00, every cast member I passed wanted to see my wristband and made sure I was heading toward the exit when they saw I didn't have one. I'm sure MNSSHP is the same.

when we went last year the had check points when entering new "lands" where you had to show your wristband. Similar to how EMH work with showing your keys to the world to get on rides. We also had to show our wristbands at every ride we went on during MNSSHP.

The park itself was still crowded but there absolutely no wait for anything except the haunted mansion.

Thanks so much for the info. I figured there had to be some way of the CM's knowing if you had a ticket or not.

It sounds like it might be a lot of fun - I think I will persuade DH to go for it!

It's really ALOT of fun. We did it in 2009. If I remember, when we returned to the park around 5:00 or so, they were already handing out the wristbands for MNSSHP. We had to show them our special passes for the event and they then gave us wristbands. I think this was right after you entered the park with your regular park passes.

Then a bit before 7:00, all the CMs were out scanning for the wrist bands. Anyone without was asked to start heading for the exit and told (very politely) that they needed to be out of the park by 7:00.

The Headless Horseman was really cool, and the trick or treat stations were so much fun! We ended up with about 6 pound of candy between the 2 of us. It was such a fun and festive atmosphere! I hate to admit it, but I think I enjoyed MNSSHP more than MVMCP. Not that the one is bad - but if I had to choose, I'd choose MNSSHP.

We didn't dress up (other than my pirate ears) but really enjoyed seeing others so into it. If we ever go again, I am so dressing up like a pirate.....

I think that it's totally worth it! Even if you're just going for the fireworks and parade it's amazing. There's also some fun entertainment over by the Haunted Mansion.

Be sure to line up for the parade early! The headless horseman preceedes the parade by a few minutes and it is a great sight. Now I could be wrong BUT from what I understand the headless horseman that rides the horse (named Midnight) is totally blind when in costume and can not see out at all and depends entirely on the horse to walk the parade route on his own with no help from the rider. I have heard that Midnight could travel all the way back to his stall at the horse barns in Ft. Wilderness all by himself if he had to. Maybe someone could chime in and let us know if that is correct (or not). I simply find it hard to beleive that he could find his way back that far.

Hrmmm... I know that they were training a new horse when I was there last year (so it was a slow headless ride) I have no idea if the story of Midnight is true.

The only thing I've heard about it is that every year, the first night of the party, the Headless Horseman rides his horse full-sprint through the park at the front of the parade and then Disney tells him that he can't ride it that fast anymore. So every parade after the first he has to slow down.

WOO HOO! I just bought my tickets for MNSSHP this morning. It will be my first time attending, and I'm really excited.

Do you worry about bad weather when you buy advance tickets? Can you get them right up until a couple of days before, or do they sell out quickly?

I think I've decided I'd like to go, now I just have to convince DH. laugh

we bought ours a few weeks ahead of time. I know they still had tickets available for the night we went but all the nights surrounding it were sold out for weeks.

Weather is certainly a concern, but there was really only one night the week we're there that worked for us, so I took the plunge and bought the tickets in advance to save a few bucks and make sure it didn't sell out before the day of.

We have tickets for September 11th - first time for both of us. We're now looking at some sort of extremely portable and easy to make costumes. laugh

We went last fall on the opening night, we had our 5th anniversary shirts on and I had crazy flashy snaky hair and Richard had an r2d2 ears.

We really loved it and the fireworks are absolutely out of this world

Anyone going on the evening of Sept 11? We will be there. Not sure yet if we will dress up since it is usually hot and humid at that time of the year.
