More Accurate DDP Question..Advice Needed!!

Hey there everyone. First off I'm sorry for such a long post. But anywayyy...I've been crazy busy planning for a trip for my girlfriend and I in July. I'm surprising her for her birthday (and most likely, a proposal too Smile) And after planning extensively for a few weeks straight, making plans of which days to visit which parks, which parks to hop to, and where & what to eat for each meal, I've made final decisions. The only thing is...I'm not so sure if I should use the Dining Plan, Deluxe Dining Plan, orrrr no plan at all. So here's the layout, and you can tell me what you think.

We'll arrive at around Noon on Sat., July 7th, and our flight departs at 8pm on Fri, July 13th.

7th - Dinner at Raglan Road.
8th - Breakfast at Cape May Cafe, CS lunch, Dinner at Tutto Italia.
9th - Breakfast in-room, CS Lunch, Dinner at California Grill.
10th- Breakfast CS, CS Lunch, Dinner at Mama Melrose.
11th - Breakfast CS, Lunch at 50's Primetime, Dinner at Ohana.
12th - Breakfast at Tusker House, CS Lunch, Dinner at Boma.
13th - Breakfast CS, and a TS lunch I haven't made an ADR for yet.

--I calculated it'll cost around $955 without a dining plan.
--I calculated it'll cost around $942 with the dining plan. The dining plan will cost $642 extra, plus I'd have to pay out of pocket for 6 meals. That brings the grand total with the regular DDP to around $942.
--I calculated it'll cost $1,120 with the Deluxe Dining Plan. Since I'd be using 2 dining points for California Grill, I'd still be paying out of pocket for one meal. The deluxe dining plan will cost $1,074.24, and then out of pocket for that one meal brings it to like...$1,120.

What do you think?

I know this is a lot, but I really appreciate everyone's input on this. It's the last leg of planning for our trip.

Thanks again ahead of time! awesome

I also do not see any mention of snacks. With the deluxe you would get two per day each and I believe one per day each with the basic plan. I have spent a lot of time figuring out plan or no plan and basically have decided it really probably is just a bit cheaper with the plan and it is paid for before you leave. I always used the deluxe plan for my figures though because that is the only one we have ever tried. My last figures where actually only $12 apart and that was using deluxe verus tables in wonderland. And that is of course assuming you would eat the same exact food no matter which plan you pick.

Thanks guys. Kinda forgot tip, didn't I? I was just considering meals before tips. Tips would be the same, dining plan or not. So I figure I don't really have to take that into account when comparing dining plan, versus deluxe dining plan, versus no dining plan at all. I feel like maybe I should just go for deluxe dining and relax on our trip.

Question! Is Tusker House breakfast on the dining plan? It was listed for dinner, but not breakfast. Is there anything else I listed that isn't on the dining plan?

Tusker House is on the dining plan for both breakfast and lunch.

I prefer the deluxe dining plan. I rarely go into figuring out if it will actually save me money. What I do know, is that it saves me time, it gives me more flexibility, and I never have to worry adding up what a meal will cost. Overall it what it saves me is a lot of stress that I would have about if I had enough money to cover the bill. With the deluxe dining plan everything is already taken care of. I put the cash tips in an envelope for each meal before we leave home.

I also use the deluxe plan as a strategy for eating at more Signature (i.e. 2 credit) establishments. For instance, a late breakfast at Cape May Cafe' (10am-ish) fills us up enough that we don't have to worry about eating until an early dinner (say 5pm-ish) at California Grill. That way we don't go over our allotted daily meal credits, and we use the snack credits for a later night nosh in the park. That helps is not have to pay for much at all out of pocket. Frequently we also take our dessert from dinner back to the room (if there's a fridge) with us and it sometimes becomes breakfast the next day.

With the deluxe plan you don't have to worry about if you're eating at a counter service or not, all meal credits are equal, which means that you could add on some of the great Disney breakfasts to your ADRs as well.

We use the deluxe dining plan for the convenience. We like to pay for as much in advance and have less to worry about while we are there. Most restaurants are on the dining plan these days. Sometimes the character meals are listed separately depending on which website you use but they are included.

I keep forgetting its just you and your significant other. When we used the dining plan we had 6, and it was an automatic 18% tip... lol

Yeah well....with my girlfriend it's like a full 20% tipping everywhere we go here at home. I mean it's positive karma I suppose...but sit-down meals on our weekends off sometimes get expensive! biggrin

And as far as going for the DxDDP, ehhhhhh....it's the devil on my shoulder. I mean for my trip, it's $1,074.24 extra. It'll give us the ability to relax, and we can allocate our points in order to have a signature dinner or something rather than an extra meal. We can use those snack credits to our advantage and shimmy our breakfast and dinner closer together or something. After all...that hair-over-a-thousand-bucks was my original out-of-pocket budget for food. Might as well put it to the best use I can and get the DxDDP.

Question....if I book the vacation (resort + tix w/ park hoppers) around Memorial Day for our July 7th-13th vacation, (that'll work right?), what's the latest I can add a Dining Plan to our vacation?

If it were me, I would be booking now. I am not sure how busy July is but that is cutting it way to close for me. I believe you could add the meal plan right up till the day before you arrive. However, sometimes when you add things like that they have to cancel your existing reservation and set up a whole new one. If this happens they refund your money and charge you again. A bit of a pain but we have done it.

lol , I guess I forgot to mention that part.

I'm all set with my ADR's for all 9. For the past couple of weeks now.

Raglan Road for 5pm on 7/7.
Cape May breakfast for 7:30am on 7/8.
Tutto Italia for 5:55pm on 7/8.
California Grill (birthday dinner) for 5:45pm on 7/9.
Mama Melrose (with Fantasmic) for 6pm on 7/10.
50's Primetime for 1:30PM? on 7/11 (lunch)
Ohana for 8pm on 7/11.
Tusker House breakfast for 8am on 7/12.
Boma for 7pm on 7/12.

All the rest are either CS, or in-room breakfast (7/9).

PS: I'm a coffee junkie from New York. I'll be heading to Dolphin/Swan every morning for Starbucks lol.

Try the South African Blend French Press after dinner at Boma. It's one of my favorites!

the kona coffee is the best, my wife makes me get her a cup like three mornings a week, which would not be bad if we were staying at the poly, we are dvc members and are usually at ssr or one of the other dvc resorts lol

LMAO, I was just thinking that. Well hey....us guys do some CRRAAZZZYYY stuff for our girls! biggrin

I'm not too too picky, although I'd love to try the coffee from Kona if it's as good as you say it is! I'm good with the coffee I can get, just as long as its not instant, and not water'ed down to the point of "staff meeting urn coffee". Yuck. yuck

PS: My vacation as totally changed for the following week. But I really haven't said anything because the meals and stuff are staying the same. So it's the same argument for or against a Dining Plan.
