Movies Under The Stars

Have you ever gone to one of Disney's movies under the stars or float in theaters? Katie thinks that they sounds awesome, but I've never done one. I also explained to her that it would cut into her park time, which didn't make her all that happy. If you've attended, what are your thoughts on them, was it fun?

I've wandered by several over the years! It hasn't been something we planned on, more a "Oh look! It's the lantern scene from Rapunzel! D'aaaaawww!" kind of thing. It makes for great ambiance, for sure.

Are you refering to the movies shown at the resorts? POR had movies under the stars that happend to be in the courtyard outside our room. We never made it back in time to see any of them. sad It was amazing how fast they get the movie screen set up and taken down!

Yep!

I wandered past the float in theater at Kidani Village once, but we didn't stay to watch. There were just a couple of people floating on innertubes in the pool.

The last time we stayed at the Beach Club, in 2009, we did the movies on the beach. It was so relaxing and cool.

We watched Wall-E. we don't usually drink, but we both got something from the pool bar and had a great evening.

We also were staying for 10 nights, and had gotten a lot of park time in already, so this was a nice side activity. If I were staying a shorter amount of time, I don't know if I would forfeit a night of park activity for it though.

We stop and watched about half a movie on the blow up screen at POFQ one night. They even roast marshmallows at POFQ. I am always too full for s'mores but it is a fun idea.

We watched 2 movies under the stars last visit at WL, but we did stay for 2 weeks awesome It wasn't something we planned to do but one afternoon we had to take a taxi to the nearest Walmart for me to buy a new camera (long story!). We got back to WL and i was a bit fed up of having to spend time and money getting this new camera so we decided to buy ice creams from Roaring Forks and eat them on the beach. They were getting ready to put the screen up and we found out that they were showing Tangled, our favourite movie clapping I remember lying on a sun lounger, looking up at the stars and thinking how perfect the moment was, i was truly in the happiest place on earth. That evening was a highlight probably because it was completely unplanned. We also got to watch the Electrical Water Pageant as well half way through. We did then watch Beauty and the Beast a few nights later but that was ruined by some people sitting just behind us who talked throughout it. I'm hoping we will be able to catch another movie next year at POFQ. yay

My company does this for a living! Our screens are actual movie theatre quality, and we carry screens that are up to 100' wide. We've done some pretty high end events for Disney out in CA, as well as outfitting Disney's Aulani with their state of the art setup. Sadly it's never earned me any hookups with tickets or resort stays. Smile

Below is our special series we do for "Showtime" in Los Angeles. If any of you live in LA, feel free to PM message me for some guest passes to any of the events.

I've walked past the float ins many times on my way to or from the food court & my room & I always think it would be a fun thing to do. I'm thinking that I'm going to have make a point of doing this during my next trip.

We stopped and watched the Little Mermaid one evening. We had more fun watching the little ones as they sang and danced around. If you have little ones and its been a long day of riding rides this is a prefect way to relax and end the evening.

We caught a glimpse of Pocahontas on arrival day at Old Key West last fall. After taking a tour of half of WDW on the Magical Express bus before finally reaching OKW much later than we'd expected and totally famished, we'd just checked in, still had our carry-on luggage, and were waiting for a table at Olivia's . If we'd arrived earlier and had time to eat and then enjoyed the movie, I might have done it. And after that we were out at the parks or at ADRs every evening, so we never made it back. Maybe next time.

We always go by the Movie on the beach at the Poly, just never stopped and watched. We are either to beat and headed back to the room or headed back to the park. Maybe this trip in July when its hot we will take some down time and watch at movie, im sure they have these at all the resorts. We'll just have to find it at the Contemporary, its probably on the beach.

NO!!!! We've done the following for Disney and still no swag for me!

-Multiple world & cast premieres for the Tinkerbell franchise, complete with an A list audience.

-Downtown Disney (CA) screenings in conjunction with special events & promotions.

-We we're a part of the WDI presentation of the flying dragon project (as seen over NEW Fantasyland.) to the whose who of WDI executives. We provided all of the audio and video support. This is where the dragon was first seen in full action and green-lit for further development. It's being considered for implementation into the Avatar experience at AK.

-Premiere of the Phineas & Ferb direct to TV movie.

-In talks about an event for "PLANES"

ONE DAY!

We stopped and watched Hercules on the Poly beach for a bit while waiting for our Kona ADR, but have never watched a full movie at any of the resorts. If I had a longer trip in the works I'd definitely plan on it, though!

Hey Drew!
That's so cool! To bad they're so stingy on the swag though. And thanks for the heads up on the Dragon, I thought it had originally been being considered for AK, then they did the Fantasyland stuff and it left me confused.

Just FYI, I removed the direct link to your company, in accordance with our TOS.

The dragon's ultimate destination is still undecided. They began developing it well before talks with James Cameron even began. By the time it was presented to the top WDI folks, the Avatar deal was done, and there was a lot of talk about it being integrated in the avatar experience at AK. There's also talk about the dragon finding it's way into parks overseas. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I have incredible video of the final presentation, but I can't post it due to an NDA agreement myself and my team all signed.
