Need to vent - Ohio State Fan here...

Ok... need to vent. For those who know or dont know. Ohio State has been part of another college scandal the past 6 months and more. Kinda losing track now. It started off with 5 players trading in their own stuff to get tats. Now... normally thats not a crime like normal colleges face like kids taking and accepting money, free cars, etc. But what makes this interesting is that they were selling tradition. One thing Ohio State takes pride in is our tradition. They were selling things that were given to them for winning games like gold pants for a victory over Michigan, rings for bowl games and such. That stuff under NCAA rules, they can not sell. Its like them selling a picture of themselves and autographing it. The NCAA states you can not sell items that pertain to the likeness of you. Kinda how if you buy any type of NCAA video game. The numbers on the jersey's can be used, but their own name and likeness can not be in the game. So 5 of our players went under investigation and to make this matter a bit shorter... they have been suspended for the first 5 games of 2011-2012. Kinda a big whoop right?

So now... fast forward back to March (I think this is when the second round of this wonderful mess started). Ends up our own coach, Jim Tressel, knew about all of this and failed to report it. He gets fined, and is now suspended for 5 games as well. Fast forward to today. He has now resigned.

BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok.... so fortunate for me... I know some people who are close to the situation. In reality... its like finding out your parents arent really your parents because you dug up to much information. To find out... it looks like Tress has a mistress. He probably was the one who introduced the kids into getting free cars and possibly getting money on the side. You got to understand. Im not saying I so to speak... but over 60% of Ohio State fans here would almost consider him more powerful than Obama. Thats huge around here. One major tradition we have is the Ohio State/Michigan game. To a lot of us fans... that game is more important than any Nation Championship game. Tress's record against Michigan was 9-1 and made Michigan fire 2 coaches! How many coaches can say they were instrumental in the removal of a rival school?

As for me... im fine with Tress resigning. In a way im in the mood for a change. The rumor around here is that we may be going for Urban Meyer. For anyone who knows College Football. There has really only been one team. One coach who has down right kicked out butts, and that was Florida, and Urban Meyer. So if you want to replace a coach... I think that is the way to look. Get the one man who destroyed us.

So... yeah... had to rant somewhere. Right now if you check the news on all of this... it looks like this is the start of a really bad domino effect. One of the 5 kids... Pryor.... is being investigated again. An old player... Clarrett has come out and said his peace that Tress was the one who helped him get in contact with free stuff. So yeah... thats my rant...

I used to date a guy in college who was an Ohio State Fan...so I know exactly how passionate you must be about all this.

I had no idea Urban Meyer was leaving Florida?? Who is replacing him?

He left just after this last season due to health reasons. He is now living here in Columbus. Guess he grew up here, and was on the coaching staff here at Ohio State a while back.

Will Muschamp is now the head coach of Florida. I think he was the defensive coordinator for Texas.

And yeah.... crap is hitting the fan today.... literally.....

Well....he left...then came back...then left again, supposedly to spend more time with his family, away from the high pressure of college football. So the OSU program is less stressful than the UF program?

And, I'm afraid, I will just have to try an empathize with ya. Remember, I'm a WV girl, by way of Georgia. I have no room in my heart for the Buckeyes Smile

Oh come on... have a little heart for the Bucks here! lol

And is it less stressful? I dont know to be honest. I would like to see him come here and turn this program around, but the thing is with here... if you get hired here, your here for at least 10 years. There is no 8-4 seasons. Its only lose at least 1 game a year, and it better not be against Michigan. Now... thats not me, but thats the mentality here. Our fan base puts Ohio State football on a pedestal. Thus why these kids are getting in trouble. Giving them discounts on stuff, free tats, cars. Its sad that our fan base has done this. This is also why Cleveland and Cincinnati have pro football teams. Really... because of Ohio State Athletics... there is no room for Pro Teams. Even the Columbus Blue Jackets are a low level tier team compared to anything Ohio State related. I guess we had an amazing indoor pro football team. There gone now.

So yeah... back to your question... would this job be less stressful? I dont know. Florida is hotter than Ohio during football season... and all of the Big Ten schools in general. That could play into it with the health issues. But with all of this stuff going on... Ohio State would be more stressful at first, but I have a feeling it could become less stressful if he wins here. We have a lot of money going into our college football program. Crap.... we could probably fix our nations debt if Ohio State Football took a break for a year and donated all that money... lol

I understand losing a great head coach...I was at Florida when we kicked your butts in that National Championship (and in basketball...sorry had to throw that one in wink ) and was really sad when Urban left after this past season. Although I did read today that he isn't taking the Ohio State job because he wants to stay with ESPN. I also think it has to do with spending time with his family and seeing his kids actually get to play sports. I promise the depression will end...although I will have to hold out on saying I am completely okay with him leaving until we have a good season this year.

A lot can happen in a year... heh

As of right now were not hiring yet. The assistant coach is taking over for this year. So I dont think were going to look for a coach till at least January of next year. So I think Urban will get bored with ESPN.... heh

As far as the depression. Im not sad or upset about Tress. In a way... im glad he is gone. I just hate the bad press were getting, and how these kids keep being stupid. lol
