New AP Holder's Quickie-Trip LIVE Trip Report

We left home approx 4:20 am Thursday, making great time and arriving at the Best Western (BW) in LBV around 3:30 pm. This made for a driving time of about 10 hours (taking time zones into account).

The rooms at the BW are large and comfortable, but not too fancy. This is our go-to for off-site accommodations.

Once we checked in, we did something that we've never done before: we went to the parks for only an evening. We've always done something else, like visit relatives or go to Disney Springs, so as not to use a ticket-day on just a few hours in a park. Having APs make things much more flexible.

We drove to AK, and picked up our AP cards, and I checked the wait time for Flight of Passage. The app showed 105 minutes, which quickly changed to 95 minutes, and we decided to jump in. I think we were in line for 45 minutes. More on this in a moment.

Flight of Passage was great. Even the DW liked it, what she saw the few moments she had her eyes open. The motion messes with her head, and she didn't want to get sick. I'll do this again, and she says she may also.

Supper at Flame Tree was good as usual. Not much to report there.

We had a FP for the Safari, which was the first time we had ridden it at night. This was much different, as we saw the lions moving around much more, and the whole place had the nocturnal vibe going.

Back to the wait times: The unusually short wait for Flight of Passage seems to have set a precedent for at least the next day.

On Friday (the 13th), the MK opened at 0800, but with an ADR at BOG for 0840, we got in to Fantasyland early. several of us were waiting to the left of the entrance to 7DMT when the crowd was let in, and we were able to jump in line ahead of them. I think I was on the second train that ran.

The DW had checked in to BOG, and I joined her afterward. We had a good breakfast (our first there), me: Gaston's Feast, her: bacon, egg, cheese sandwich.

We then got in line for the Haunted Mansion, which had a posted wait time of 45 minutes, and we may have waited 15.

Next was POC, and while I can't recall the posted wait times, the actual wait was much less.

I'm getting suspicious.

We hopped to DHS, saw MuppetVision 3D, I rode ToT, where the posted wait time of 30 minutes was pretty accurate, and join the DW in enough time to watch Beauty and the Beast.

We did stand by for Midway Mania, where the posted wait time showed 45 minutes, and we were in line for about 15.

The real kicker: tried unsuccessfully to score an ADR for 50's Prime Time Cafe, and we decided to try a walk-in. They told us the wait was 30-40 minutes (which sounded GREAT), but we may have waited 15. My luck is never this good.

We're trying to adjust to the more relaxed attitude that the APs offer, but it's hard to break the habit of "GO, GO, GO" to maximize your experience/time ratio. We're working on it.

Looks like today is Epcot briefly this a.m., the on to MK again. My luck of the previous 1.5 days may catch up with me today.

More later

yay yay I'm so glad you managed Flight of Passage!!!

I've had my suspicions of "wait times" for quite some time... not sure why they bump them so much at times.

Sounds like a fantastic time so far, good luck again today. crossfingers crossfingers

wow I'd be suspicious of those wait times too! we never have that kinda luck either

also I am with you about being in the parks on travel day - we don't have a long drive like you did but we have a long flight over the Atlantic to get there so with time differences etc we have always either stayed around the resort or Disney springs on travel day but this past September we were staying at the Boardwalk so we felt we had to go into EPCOT - don't know about you but I felt like I was breaking some kind of rule!

keep the report coming it's great so far!

It seems that the "Live" portion of my "Live Trip Report" has gone off the rails!

Getting back to the room late, being in a hurry the next morning because of sleeping in; these things don't make for much time/energy for on-the-fly trip report writing!

Bottom line: we got home last night, I'm back at work today. We had a great time breaking-in our APs!

More to come...

I'm so bad at trip reports LOL! Y'all just have to wait and see what gets posted on the blog because I've kinda given up on the after action recaps.
