New AP Holder's Quickie-Trip Pre-Trip Report

As new WDW AP holders, we decided to christen them with a quickie-trip!

I return home from a business trip this Wednesday, and we'll rise early Thursday for the 600 mile trek to WDW.

We plan to be there Thursday afternoon, and make our way to AK for an evening safari, and then the late viewing of Rivers of light. It would be nice to work in a Flights of Passage stand-by, but I'm not holding my breath.

Our plans are a little less firm after that first evening, but we'll be making more plans later today.

This will be our 3rd trip without anyone else. The first was our 25th anniversary, and the second was this past October for the Halloween party. Oddly enough, our 2nd daughter and her husband were there with another couple, and we were able to meet them for lunch at Disney Springs.

We have a week-long trip planned for October, with daughter #1, her husband and their two children, and daughter #2 and her husband. Daughter #3 will be finishing up her college program, and cannot make it. That will be the first trip for our grandchildren, and the wife and I ditched any anniversary plans (this will be our 30th) to be with them for their first trip.

If you aren't too tired, jump in line for Flight of Passage as the park closes. They will only be pulling guests from the standby line once the FP line is cleared out and the line moves quicker. Still a bit of a wait but not as bad.

We've made that trip so many times, I almost don't think much about it (almost!).

With some of my wife's family in that area, we've had reasons other that WDW to travel there. Some of them were very short trips.

This past January, we drove down on a Friday, attended a funeral on Saturday, and drove home Sunday. I tried to talk my wife into a quick trip to the Magic Kingdom, but since it was her aunt that had passed away, she couldn't bring herself to go, and I couldn't make much of an argument

Many years ago, we drove my wife's grandmother back home to the Orlando area, and urgent family events back home required us to drive back the very next day. Not a fun experience.

I had never thought about doing that; sounds like a good idea. With no fast passes available, and the wait times being what they are, tired or not, we can try it!

Let me know if you do that and if it works for.you. Our plan right now in a few weeks is to get to AK an hour before opening (on a non-EMH morning) and see what the line and wait is like. Since the park opens at 9 am getting there by 8 doesn't seem too ridiculous. I think if we can beat the busses we stand a good chance. Maybe.
