New here :) Husband's first time to WDW

Hi everyone! My family is a Disney family and my husband grew up about an hour from Disneyland. We'll be going to Disney World in October for my husband's birthday (and his favorite time of year is Halloween!). I'm big on birthdays Party lol, I like to make a huge deal about it and even make it a birthday week. So, since it'll be his first time there, and for his BIRTHDAY yay lol, I've been planning the whole thing. The only thing he knows is when we're going, for how long and which resort we're staying at. All of the reservations, gifts, and special things that we're going to do is a surprise. Smile

Some of the reservations I got:
Chef Mickey's (he has "a picture with all of the characters") on his Disney bucket list
Be Our Guest
Victoria & Albert's
Fantasmic! Dinner Package at The Brown Derby
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater
and tickets for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

For Victoria & Albert's I was thinking of secretly buying a sports coat/blazer. I found out his measurements by using his Class B's from his military uniform and gave those to a person at mens wearhouse. I was thinking of hiding it in my suitcase and getting it pressed the day before at Disney.

He's pretty psyched about spending his birthday at Disney World. He wants that birthday button and everything mickey so I made him a birthday shirt as well. I switched his birth date with the ENCOM sign and added the iso marking below it. And also got him a replica of Sam Flynn's leather jacket. I also thought about making a back pack for him to take around the parks with him (maybe using el tape and making the iso marking on it). His all time favorite movie is Tron. Lol, so many secrets to keep track of.... phew Tired But he's such a great husband, I want this to be super special for him. clapping

Also, going to have two gift baskets delivered to the room, one on check in day and another on his birthday. Has anyone used the gifts & floral service that Disney offers?

I was also thinking of fitting in a couple's massage midway through our vacation at the Mandara Spa at the Swan and Dolphin. Whenever my family goes to Disney we're in the parks from the rope drop till they close. My husband and I did that at Disney Land last year....lol and we were dying by day 2. We'll be there for 8 days and Universal Studios for 2 days before that. So a figured a massage would be welcome by then Big smile awesome

I've never planned a Disney vacation before, so is this a good plan? Too little or too much? Thanks so much for any input and sorry for the long post stars Tired

Oh, an excellent plan!!! I am spending my birthday at WDW next month and having done that before, it's indeed a great way to spend your (or his) special day!!!

We've used the Dosney floral for in room special surprises and have been very pleased with what they do. It's a great idea and I recommend it.

And welcome to the boards!

Welcome! You have a great plan and your hubby will be so surprised. You have found the one board that not only have individuals who are extremely knowlegdeable and we all have one thing in common -we love Disney.

Hi! Mushi 404 and welcome to our friendly forum. First of all "I found out his measurements by using his Class B's from his military uniform" Leads me to Please thank your husband for his service. Next a few people here have used Disney Floral and although a little pricey, the services are great and they are dependable. This is a good plan BUT do not try to do too much, you can't do it all so throw in a few resort breaks to rest and recuperate. Now tell us more of your itinerary. Smile

Thank you so much everyone! Smile and yes he's in the Army. He was a combat medic and recently got restationed to a clinic. We'll be staying at Pop Century for the entire vacation. And we checked the military discounts but found that having the free dining actually saved us some money. Although, we did have to buy 2day base w/park hoppers, it came out $60 more than the price w/ the military discount on the room, but we got 4 tickets out of it. I was planning on ordering a 6-day park hopper through the MWR on base. awesome

Lol, I made a powerpoint presentation for my husband to convince him for a longer vacation, originally, our vacation totaled 7 days..... yay mickey yeah SUCCESS!

Our Itinerary:
Day1-Downtown Disney w/La Nouba
Day2-Islands of Adventure (Harry Potter!!!!)
Day3-Universal Studios
Day4-Magic Kingdom
Day5-Hollywood Studios w/Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater
Day6-Animal Kingdom w/Victoria & Albert's
Day7-Hollywood Studios w/Fantasmic! Dinner Package @ The Brown Derby
Day8-Animal Kingdom/Magic Kingdom w/Be Our Guest
Day9-Epcot w/Chef Mickey's
Day10-Epcot
Day11-Magic Kingdom

And because of the timing of our vacation, I found out that the Magic Kingdom would close early some days for the party Party But I read that Epcot will be staying open later.

Also, I was wondering if anyone has any pointers for transportation from Disney to Universal. Thanks very much for any help!

I haven't been to Universal but heard about this service by Mears that includes park tickets and transportation.

Hello Mushi and welcome. Congrats on the trip and great job on the Birthday Surprises! Scrappy, my DW, did the same for me 2 years ago and it was great. We just did V & A this past January and it was wonderful, a lot of food, but still wonderful.

Like Vettelover said, don't push yourself to much because you will not, I repeat "WILL NOT" get it all done, and we see so many people miserable because they are trying to hard to see everything.

I have used Disney Floral a lot. You may want to check, I don't think they will deliver on the first day, but depending on what it is, and what time you check in, they might. They are great, and if you would have any problems, call them right away, they will take care of it.

Oh and finally, thank your husband & you for your service! Have a great trip! awesome

What an amazing trip you've got planned! Your husband is a lucky guy! I love that you did a PowerPoint to present your case for a longer vacay...that's totally something I would do!

We used Mears for transportation to Universal when we were there last Oct and had a great experience. You just call them the nigt before to arrange a pickup time from your resort and then you have to give them a 3 hour warning before you want to get picked up so you can just call from the park when you know what time you want to leave. I believe it was $18 a person round trip.

Okay three things,

Firstly ask the hotel desk and they will sort out universal transfers ours was 15 dollars each for a return shuttle and universal were happy to let us use a phone at guest services to arrange return.

Secondly I think magic kingdom let service people lower the flag on Main Street ask at the town hall in the morning and they will let you know more.

Last but not least if a photo with all the characters is on his bucket list. Head over to Epcot 30 mins before rope drop. Get in line, when the rope is dropped head right and run over to the future world character spot. If you are first in line you will get a photo with all three characters, this is as far as I know the only place this happens with Mickey, Minnie and Pluto. We did this in may and it is an awesome photo that has pride of place in out living room. All our friends and family always comment and ask how we managed it plus it only happens once a day so only 365 people a year can do it, that's a really rare disney memory.

Wow - that is so cool and I had no idea. I would love that but my DH isn't into it as much as I am. I have pictures with Pooh & Tigger and Chip & Dale, but haven't been into the character spot at Epcot.....yet! mickey
