Found a site with some cool photos of the new Space Mountain! I'm excited to ride (not sure when that'll be...), but I can't quite figure out what's so different about it except that it's darker and the queue line is different.

When I heard how long SM would be down, I had some high hopes that there would be a major re-do. I'd hoped that it'd be similar to SM at Disneyland which went down for rehab about four years ago.
Like the article said, it looks like the WDW version was more of an aesthetic rehab, which it severely needed, and not the overall remaking of the attraction like in Anaheim. The rehab at DL was major, even to the point of ripping out the track and laying down new.
Even though SM at WDW didn't go through this much change, I'm sure the renovations will be welcomed, specifically the new queue area.
Upcoming Trips
I'm definitely excited to see the new queue area! I've heard that the "ambient sound" is still there, which was my biggest concern during the revamp.
I agree though that it was down for a LONG time -- you'd think there'd have been more change.
