Next Disney Restaurant Genre

So Catie and I are agreed that Indian food does not excite us as much as some other genres might. What kind of restaurant should Disney do next?

I may be stuck on Asian cultures, but I LOVE Vietnamese food and it always seems like a great kind of food for people who aren't that adventurous. What do you guys think?

Good question. I think they try out a bunch of different cultural foods during the F&W festival in October/November. They might want to figure out what the biggest sellers are and go that direction.

I know they have a huge Aussie focus there...

I'd really like them to do some ethnic food where they don't make it "light" as Catie mentioned. Make it actual legit food so that you get a bit more variety there, there's only so many different ways you can prepare a filet and a chicken breast that are going to please everyone.

i don't really think any of their italian places are that great. italian is such a widely accepted food genre, i'd think they could make a fairly authentic one and still work for picky eaters.

I think Marrakesh is the closest you have to that. I would have thought they'd be a little more authentic over in Asia in the Animal Kingdom with Yak and Yeti, but they're fulfilling the needs of their audience, no doubt.

Perhaps the resorts are where you can branch out and get a bit more authentic?

Yes, I would love non "light" ethnic. I loved the Moroccan restaurant when I went. I would like some Thai food.

I heard that they had some New Orleans food at last years F&W and thought that sounded like it would be good.

Or good Italian...I never get Italian in Disney because it is so blah.

I love food

PS- is it Caitie, I know the extra I is weird and I won't mention it a billion times, but just wanted to give you the heads up mickey

I was going to say Thai, but you beat me to it! That'd be a great addition, I think--and easy to introduce with some less "ethnic" options as well.

Italian food at Disney IS blah, but I haven't eaten at the new Italy restaurant yet, so we'll see how that is.

Apologies! I was amalgamating "Katie" and "Caitie" Although from now on in my head it will be Cat-e, I won't misspell it again!

Is it short for something? Caitlyn?

That seems like a really possible idea. It would obviously be in POFQ. I'm drawing a blank on what restaurants are there now...

It seems that the next restaurant genre at WDW will be Mediterranean.

Were you guys aware Spoodles was getting the axe? I was sort of surprised.

Yes, Spoodles will be replaced by Koussina by Cat Cora (that's the whole name) sometime in the fall. I'm guessing it's going to be rolled out during Food & Wine Fest. Cat is designing the Mediterranean menu, but the restaurant will be owned and operated by the Mouse.

That sounds like the perfect designation of responsibilies. Leave food up to the chefs and operation up to the mouse.

Going to read the article... clapping

Sounds great!

One qualm with the article: it states that she's been working with Disney only since 2008, but she's been at the Food & Wine Festival doing seminars for years!

"She began working with Disney in 2008 by creating a Disney Video on Demand series to showcase ways to help families develop more healthy eating habits. "I'm extremely excited about this latest extension of my relationship with Disney," she said. "Together, we're going to develop a truly amazing contemporary Mediterranean restaurant."

The first and only female Iron Chef on Food Network's hit show "Iron Chef America," Cora is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. She also is Executive Chef for Bon Appetit magazine. In addition to hosting the instructional cooking demonstrations for Disney Video on Demand, Cora has been a featured chef at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and at Disney's California Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland Resort."

It is actually short for Catherine - for the past three or four generations on my mom's side, the daughter has had the three names Joan, Mary, and Catherine in different orders.

My parents wanted it to begin with a C, but didn't want people pronouncing it Catty, so they added the extra I, which made Caitie.
