OK, so this morning I pulled the trigger and got our October trip officially booked with the hotel room, ticket renewals and now moving on to ADR's!!!
Staying at the Best Western on Hotel Plaza Blvd. (4th stay here) and love the location and the deal I get being a Diamond Elite member of their rewards program. We're staying seven nights and our room cost with taxes, resort fees and occupancy fees is $716.45. It broke down to be $572.90 (room rate) and $143.55 (taxes & fees). I thought it was a great deal for a seven night stay at Disney, on property and close to DTD. Plus our room is a suite and not just some random resort room, which we like very much.
Like I said, we have stayed there three times previously (same room all three times) and love the location. All rooms have baloneys and we always get a Disney facing view which makes it nice to wake up to in the mornings having breakfast on the balcony.
We were going to fly again this year but since Southwest has come to our airport here in Pensacola, they discontinued AirTran flights so plane tickets for both of us would have been close to if not over $700. I can stand the six hour drive to save $700 any day. AirTran use to have flights to Orlando from Pensacola for around $250 (business class) round trip per person. Awww, the good old days before Southwest bought them out. Did I mention my distain for Southwest as an airline and company yet?
We have just about $4,000 for this trip and I like to budget everything out to know exactly how much money we have when we get there and throughout our stay. I hope no one takes this the wrong way as I lay out a budget, but I figure it may do some people some good at the same time. Plus, I wonder if anyone else does this as we do.
Starting Budget - $4,000
Hotel - $716.45
Ticket Renewals - $572.98 (Fla. Res AP's)
Petrol for Trip - $200 (902 miles rounds trip - 4 tanks of gas at $50 per tank)
Remaining for Trip - $2,510.57
Average over 8 Days - $313.82 (per day budget)
Now I take a spreadsheet with us and we collect all receipts throughout the day so our "daily budget" fluctuates each day of our stay. We may splurge one day and we may not spend as much another. I just always like to know when we can splurge and how much we have to last the trip. Maybe a little anal but it's just how I have always done it and it's worked out for us.
Plus, when we do lunch at a theme restaurant, we typically each get an appetizer and for the most part split an entree. My wife doesn't eat a lot at once, but she eats a little throughout the day so this works out best for us, and the budget too actually. Instead of spending $100 for lunch, it's usually around $45 or $50.
Dinner at Disney is where we splurge the most by far. So the bulk of our budget really is geared towards that ... And of course, a few trips around the World Showcase "visiting" each country.
Now that I see this post is getting quite lengthy, I'll stop here. Just excited the trip is finally booked and we are officially headed to Disney in October!!!
