Olivia's Cafe

We went to Olivia's Cafe in Old Key West earlier this month. I've never been there before and I was ready to try a couple of new places. I usually go back to the same restaurants over and over. I enjoyed the restaurant and liked the decor very much. We went for lunch and I had the turkey club on whole grain bread with a delicious salad. The sandwich was wonderful. But the dessert!!! Oh, my!!! I had a Key Lime Tart. I don't know about y ou but when I hear "tart" I think of little fluted edged pies you can eat in two bites! Not this one. It was a tall (3 inches??), very thick crusted concoction. The crust was graham cracker, and as I said, very thick. When you broke through it, the key lime filling was so creamy and yummy!!!! There was a drizzle of mango raspberry around the plate. Beautiful presentation and wonderful taste. It's worth going there just for the tart. Check out the menu. There aren't scads of offerings but some good-sounding ones. I will definitely go back and I definitely recommend it for lunch. (Didn't go for dinner so won't recommend it but would love to hear if anyone else has.)

I love trying new places, although I always have trouble finding a "slot" for them. There are several places we usually try to eat twice, but I'm getting kind of burned out on them so maybe we can move someone new into the rotation! Thanks for the review!

Sounds fantastic! I've been on a key lime pie kick lately and can imagine that any spot in Florida would have to fight for its place in the "lime"light (ha ha) when it comes to key lime desserts.

Looking forward to it!

You'd be surprised how few Florida restaurants can do a good Key lime pie. Too many are sweet instead of tart and limey; some actually think the custard should be green instead of yellow. And then there's the argument about Graham cracker versus conventional pie crust, and meringue versus whipped cream. Fightin' words to many!

I'm afraid there's just no room for key lime pie that's too sweet, green, meringue-y, or on conventional pie crust.

That's just lunacy.

OOH! Scott--what's your recommendation for best key lime pie in Orlando? (Sorry...going to have to take advantage of your expertise here...) wink
