The Only Vacation That Gets Me Buzzing..

I can't think of any other vacation that gets me so excited the minute I book a Disney one...Even tho I'm off to Crete in 3 months time, ( fingers x the money crisis is over ) it's just another chill out on the beach vacation and meeting old Greek friends ( we got married there many years ago ) .But I remember reading stories in the old site ( which we won't mention ) about certain people who didn't enjoy lots of various things, like the weather was awful, or the parks were way over crowded, their favourite restaurant was a massive disappointment, their resort had a refurbishment going on, certain rides kept breaking down,etc,etc...Now we have incurred thunderstorms but we just put on our Ponchos and carry on, South American tour groups in July and August, we head for another attraction, a certain signature steak restaurant at Epcot didn't live up to our expectations, big deal, won't be back, and last year the main pool at WL was closed for a refurb but we just chilled out in the little one, and yes, POTC was closed several times due to malfunction ...But we still had the best time ever...So how do you cope when things don't go as planned,?..

Just like you we just move on. We have been lucky in the past 2 years, going in October, we have faced no rain and no large tour groups. We have been so lucky when it comes that; however, I have struggled with my vertigo during my trips. Definitely not in the itinerary, but I just go with the flow. I can't control them anymore than I can control the weather, crowds or ride closures.

Also, like you, Disney is the only trip that really gets me excited. Though we are planning an Scotland, Ireland, England cruise in a couple of years that I am pretty stoked about.

As much as I like the planning part of my trips, those little unexpected changes make some of the best memories! I say go with the flow!

Part of the obsessive planning process for us is checking the resort and attractions refurb schedule, so we're able to avoid most disappointments due to closures. Don't get me wrong, there is disappointment for sure, but we get time to adjust to the sad news that a favorite attraction will be closed for our trip. Usually anything that we encounter unexpectedly in the parks is a temporary downtime and we have plenty of time to get back and experience that attraction later.

When at WDW and something does not go as planned, we just "stand clear of the doors (Por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas) and move on to the next adventure mickey

a. Crowded, visit the park later or go to another park
b. Raining, get the ponchos out
c. Attraction is closed, go to the next attraction
d. Foods not up to par (return it), & get something else or go somewhere else
e. Tired, hang out at the pool
f. Hung-over, Alka Seltzer (not that I've ever been...there Davie )
g. Bored, watch folks with baby carriages & thank my lucky stars that my kids are grown biggrin

Cheers
mickey

Some of my best Disney memories are of walking around during Tropical Storm Faye (2009?) in completely empty parks. We got off a bus at DHS and it started raining so hard all we could do was laugh. We were in the Beach Club lobby and water started pouring out of an electrical outlet. They didn't know whether to call a plumber or an electrician.

That's when I developed my love for Crocs. Walk through the puddles, dry them off when you get a chance. If the park is flooded, make like a duck!

However, when I'm not treated well, or there are feces smeared on the wall in my room when I check in (yes that actually happened), I'm not just moving on- I'm making noise. And that's not just for Disney, but anywhere.

Well, I'm the type who plans and hopes for the best but always expects the worst. I don't consider myself a risk taker person in general so I leave nothing to chance and do everything in my power to keep the unexpected surprises for the worse as low as I can. That being said, sometimes, there are certain things I can't control but I have to be flexible and conscientious.

If I get angry hearing stories about how CMs were yelled at and mistreated by customers, you can bet your bottom dollar I will never do that and disrespect the CMs because it's not their fault more often than not. Plus I'm the type of guy that likes to avoid unwanted negative attention and not cause any scene whatsoever. I never want to be the guy that gets YouTube shamed or social media shamed. If there's something that isn't to my liking, I ask kindly and politely for a change or whatever I need because I've learned yelling goes nowhere and cooler heads prevail. If they comply, that's great and I show my gratitude. If not, I either can accept it with class or ask to speak to a higher authority figure if necessary but still being polite and respectful.

We don't really make plans at all for our weekends at WDW. We pick which park we're going to the night before or morning of and if a ride or show is down, we catch it the next weekend. If it was my once a year or once in a lifetime vacation, I would be far less relaxed about missing something.

But there are certain things that we can't just "go with the flow" about. Our only issues that have somewhat ruined our vacations have been with other park visitors and never with any Disney staff.

For example, in May, I was hit in the neck with a selfie stick by a group of twenty something's trying to make sure they all got in the picture. The guy holding the stick didn't look before he threw his arm straight out, right into me. I was hit so hard it left a bruise for a few weeks. I certainly didn't plan on that happening and my husband definitely had something to say to them about it. But it takes a lot(like a physical assault) to get us riled up about anything when we are at Disney World.

Two years ago, we got in line for the Little Mermaid ride. After an hour in line, we turned a corner and saw Ariel smiling at us-we never realized we were in the meet and greet line and not the ride line ( although the solid line of little princesses should've been our clue). We laughed like crazy and brought home my favorite Disney picture-my 22 year old daughter hanging out with a gorgeous Ariel. It's always good at Disney.

Wow. That's really gross! Was that at a WDW resort?
