Oops! I did it again!

I'm going to WDW in February for the Princess Half. Gonna be awesome, right? Today, it got awesomer.

I got some random email yesterday about a national anti-bullying convention in Orlando at a hotel at the Universal entrance. Didn't really think about it, but then realized it's on Feb. 26-28. My trip right now is from Feb. 20-24. So I thought...hmm, I could just pick up a couple of days of hotel somewhere (or just extend my stay at Pop) and go to this conference! And I've never been to Universal. And since my airfare is already taken care of, maybe my principal would approve it and pay for it...let me go ask him.

So I did, and HE SAID YES. He's covering the registration, hotel and food for the convention for me and the other dean!!! So I'll be flying in on Thursday the 20th and flying home the following Friday the 28th! WHAT?!?!? Crazy!

So here's where I need some help:
*where should I stay? Should I just do a couple more days at Pop? Try to get something DVC rental last minute? (I already looked at Poly, just as a "dream come true" thing...$1000, so no go.) I don't know what I would do for the two days alone...food? drinking? pool? parks? Go stay off property closer to Universal or near Downtown Disney? The convention hotel is $139/night, but so is Pop.
*If I just stay on property, should I extend my ticket? Right now I'm planning on a 4-day hopper for Fri-Mon. Since the conference starts Wed, it would only be one more day...does it cost more to upgrade it now?

Other ideas I haven't thought of? Or things to do I might not have heard about?

Aren't you getting close to it being worth getting a premium Annual Pass?

Whoo ho! That's awesome!

I would extend your stay at Pop and add on to your ticket. There's lots to do! mickey

Well, I say stay at a Disney hotel if you can. Here's a thought, if your work is covering $139 already for your hotel, can you cover the difference to upgrade to another resort (Poly may still be a pretty penny, but what about a moderate?).

As far as what to do by yourself....Disney solo is tons of fun. I like to hit the parks, but at a really relaxed pace, doing some resort stuff at the same time. I say do it!

Tuesday night is covered, and our travel person is just booking the conference hotel, so I'll head over there as late as I can on Tuesday night. Or when the other dean gets there, I guess. Smile

So just Monday night and I have to pay for that. Pop is $136, so I might just book that and then ask on check in if I can just stay in that room an extra night. Or I just found some last minute DVC points (at $9/pt which is the same price as Pop at OKW and BW), so I will see if that works out. Pop seems to always be available, so I might keep an eye on DVC for a bit. Would be cool to check out a new resort.

I'm not leaving until the evening of the 25th so you're welcome to hang me, my friend and my cousins.

Awesome! If you're trying to hit up Universal, I would try to stay at one of their resorts. They both seem nice, but can be pricey too. Have you been to IOA? If you have to choose between Universal and IOA, I would go IOA.

If you are staying in Disney, I would pay for an upgrade or go DVC. Give you a chance to experience a different resort. Smile

I just found a DVC renter who sold me points for the one night for pretty cheap. So I'm staying at Boardwalk the one night for only a smidge more than Pop! That makes me happy, since BW is on my radar for a future trip. clapping

Well, "smidge more" is all relative at Disney, right? So I got 'em for $10, which is fiiiine by me. Smile If you really want the info, I'll text you, since it seems like she's got a ton.
