So, we've been home a couple of days now and I simply cannot get back to reality; I totally missed my daughter's 5 year well visit at the doctor yesterday! I am so not out of vacation mode yet!
The experience was magical despite our little hiccups along the way...you know what they say about the best laid plans!
I pretty much consider this my first trip. The last time I went was 1980, when I was 10. Magic Kingdom was about it. So everything was so new to me. Now that I've gone I cannot understand why I didn't go sooner (other than that pesky money issue).
We stayed on property -- at the Wilderness Lodge. It did not disappoint. Absolutely gorgeous lodge and families certainly feel welcome.
We did the Deluxe Dining Plan. OMG -- tons of food, tons...we could not use all of our meals! Our final night there we invited friends over (that live locally) and ordered pizzas in. The cast member on the other end of the line says to me, "that will take 4 meal credits per pizza," I say, "I got credits to burn baby!" You would not believe the amount of food they delivered to our room!!
The trip started out less than auspiciously. My daughter developed a fever the day we arrived. I had all these high hopes of getting to the MK since we were at our resort by 12:30 on Thursday. But, by dinner time my girl was in full misery and we weren't going anywhere.
Went to the Mercantile to buy children's Advil (only thing they had BTW) -- 'cause I was a dope and didn't pack advil/tylenol for my girl. I was trying to be optimistic...sigh....
Thought the Advil was helping. We went to 1900 Park Fair Friday morning -- absolutely wonderful BTW; Mary Poppins was gorgeous. Then we tried to hit MK. We were there all of about 40-45 minutes -- didn't even make it out of the Main Street area. We did visit with the Princesses in the Town Theater setting and we saw Daisy Duck in the town center. But my girl was fading fast; fever was full on, she was shivering and clammy. We had to return to the resort. We were back there by noon
So, 1 and 1/2 days lost for park visiting. Luckily the concierge was able to get a druggist to deliver children's Tylenol; it arrived about 4PM. Just in time for us to meet friends in Downtown Disney. It was like I had a new child.
Not sure what it was; no other symptoms ever manifested themselves, just the fever.
So, our plans got all off track.
Friday was supposed to be our big day in MK.
So, Saturday was better and we proceeded on track. Epcot for the majority of the day. Lunch at Les Chefs du France. We did not get to see Remy up close -- I was so disappointed; so was my girl. But we couldn't sit there all day and wait for him to get back to us in the far corner.
We did see lots of other characters though -- both up close and from afar. Aurora, Marie, Belle and Beast, Aladdin and Jasmine, Mulan, Donald Duck, Snow White....didn't have time for the Fairies though; line was way too long for our just recovering girl.
Sadly I have to admit that we only had time to do about 3/4 of the World Showcase. We got a late start 'cause we let her sleep a bit in the morning due to the illness. And then we had to leave around 4:30ish to get back to our resort because we had reservations for the Spirit of Aloha dinner that evening.
Sunday was our crazy busy day -- OY! I don't think I will ever do that to myself again. We did Hollywood Studios in the morning. Had to leave around 2 to be at Epcot for 3 for a late lunch with the Princesses at the Akershus. Then from Epcot we had to make our way over to Downtown Disney for a 6PM Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique appointment. WHEW! My feet were dying after all that.
We originally had plans to go to Port Orleans for a horse drawn carriage ride; I put the ix-nay on that. I couldn't get on one more bus to go to one more place. Whew. Luckily my daughter passed out in her stroller after the boutique and really didn't miss doing it.
After all that on Sunday, we decided to take it relatively easy on Monday. We originally had Hoop De Doo Review reservations for Monday evening; I cancelled them. We wanted to go back to the MK for the parade and fireworks. So, Monday started with the Princess Tea Party at the GF. My daughter was in heaven. She proceeded to tell me that she wanted to come back to Disney for her 6th birthday next year!! LOL Then we went to the MK for a while. Then back to our resort for a bit to visit with friends and have our crazy room service dinner. And then back to MK for the nighttime specatculars.
Admittedly I would do some things differently. But, it was a truly magical experience. We didn't get to go to the Animal Kingdom. We skipped that in favor of going to the MK on Monday. And we didn't ride nearly enough rides. But, really, I can't complain. We had the best time and my daughter saw so many Princesses, I thought she might go into overload!
My hubby really enjoyed it as well. I'm surprised how much. He keeps saying he wants to go back. That makes me happy.
