The Pearl Girl's Big 5 Bash

So, we've been home a couple of days now and I simply cannot get back to reality; I totally missed my daughter's 5 year well visit at the doctor yesterday! I am so not out of vacation mode yet!

The experience was magical despite our little hiccups along the way...you know what they say about the best laid plans!

I pretty much consider this my first trip. The last time I went was 1980, when I was 10. Magic Kingdom was about it. So everything was so new to me. Now that I've gone I cannot understand why I didn't go sooner (other than that pesky money issue).

We stayed on property -- at the Wilderness Lodge. It did not disappoint. Absolutely gorgeous lodge and families certainly feel welcome.

We did the Deluxe Dining Plan. OMG -- tons of food, tons...we could not use all of our meals! Our final night there we invited friends over (that live locally) and ordered pizzas in. The cast member on the other end of the line says to me, "that will take 4 meal credits per pizza," I say, "I got credits to burn baby!" You would not believe the amount of food they delivered to our room!!

The trip started out less than auspiciously. My daughter developed a fever the day we arrived. I had all these high hopes of getting to the MK since we were at our resort by 12:30 on Thursday. But, by dinner time my girl was in full misery and we weren't going anywhere.

Went to the Mercantile to buy children's Advil (only thing they had BTW) -- 'cause I was a dope and didn't pack advil/tylenol for my girl. I was trying to be optimistic...sigh....

Thought the Advil was helping. We went to 1900 Park Fair Friday morning -- absolutely wonderful BTW; Mary Poppins was gorgeous. Then we tried to hit MK. We were there all of about 40-45 minutes -- didn't even make it out of the Main Street area. We did visit with the Princesses in the Town Theater setting and we saw Daisy Duck in the town center. But my girl was fading fast; fever was full on, she was shivering and clammy. We had to return to the resort. We were back there by noon Sad

So, 1 and 1/2 days lost for park visiting. Luckily the concierge was able to get a druggist to deliver children's Tylenol; it arrived about 4PM. Just in time for us to meet friends in Downtown Disney. It was like I had a new child.

Not sure what it was; no other symptoms ever manifested themselves, just the fever.

So, our plans got all off track.

Friday was supposed to be our big day in MK.

So, Saturday was better and we proceeded on track. Epcot for the majority of the day. Lunch at Les Chefs du France. We did not get to see Remy up close -- I was so disappointed; so was my girl. But we couldn't sit there all day and wait for him to get back to us in the far corner.

We did see lots of other characters though -- both up close and from afar. Aurora, Marie, Belle and Beast, Aladdin and Jasmine, Mulan, Donald Duck, Snow White....didn't have time for the Fairies though; line was way too long for our just recovering girl.

Sadly I have to admit that we only had time to do about 3/4 of the World Showcase. We got a late start 'cause we let her sleep a bit in the morning due to the illness. And then we had to leave around 4:30ish to get back to our resort because we had reservations for the Spirit of Aloha dinner that evening.

Sunday was our crazy busy day -- OY! I don't think I will ever do that to myself again. We did Hollywood Studios in the morning. Had to leave around 2 to be at Epcot for 3 for a late lunch with the Princesses at the Akershus. Then from Epcot we had to make our way over to Downtown Disney for a 6PM Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique appointment. WHEW! My feet were dying after all that.

We originally had plans to go to Port Orleans for a horse drawn carriage ride; I put the ix-nay on that. I couldn't get on one more bus to go to one more place. Whew. Luckily my daughter passed out in her stroller after the boutique and really didn't miss doing it.

After all that on Sunday, we decided to take it relatively easy on Monday. We originally had Hoop De Doo Review reservations for Monday evening; I cancelled them. We wanted to go back to the MK for the parade and fireworks. So, Monday started with the Princess Tea Party at the GF. My daughter was in heaven. She proceeded to tell me that she wanted to come back to Disney for her 6th birthday next year!! LOL Then we went to the MK for a while. Then back to our resort for a bit to visit with friends and have our crazy room service dinner. And then back to MK for the nighttime specatculars.

Admittedly I would do some things differently. But, it was a truly magical experience. We didn't get to go to the Animal Kingdom. We skipped that in favor of going to the MK on Monday. And we didn't ride nearly enough rides. But, really, I can't complain. We had the best time and my daughter saw so many Princesses, I thought she might go into overload!

My hubby really enjoyed it as well. I'm surprised how much. He keeps saying he wants to go back. That makes me happy.

Awh, great pics and what a sweet little girl, Tori! I'm so glad she recovered and that you ended up having a great time! Whew - you squeezed a LOT into that trip!

I'd love to hear more about the food, of course Smile How were Chefs de France and Spirit of Aloha? Did you try any other fun snacks or meals? Oh - and Akerhus and the Princess Tea! - how were they, as far as food and experience go?

That pool looks AWESOME!

Did your daughter enjoy the princess makeover? My wife and I keep talking about when we should do that for our daughter.

Thanks for a wonderful trip report and so sorry to hear about your daughter not doing well, but so glad that she picked right up after a minimal down time. How did you like the Spirit of Aloha dinner show? I must admit that it is the one that I have never done.

Sorry to hear the trip started off with a sick little one but glad she got better and had a great rest of the trip. It's so funny how much Wilderness Lodge and Animal kingdom Lodge look similar. When I first looked at the picture of the pool I was like wait a minute, there are definately differences but they look very similar.

Yay! Great trip report, thanks! So sorry about the rocky start, but it sounds like it was somewhat made up for by the end!
What a beautiful little princess you have - great pics!

Thanks for sharing. I always wondered about the deluxe dining plan - we often have a hard time using up all onthe standard plan, so I can just imagine how much food you must have had! Ha!

Great trip report ToriB, and glad to hear you still all had a great time. Yeah the Deluxe Meal Plan can be alot of food, but that the one reason we do it all the time, plus we do alot of meals that use 2 credits per meal, plus we get breakfast room service towards the end of the trip when we see we'll have meals left. We have done the Spirit of Aloha dinner several times and always love it.

Okay Lizzy B, just for you...some pics Smile

Um let's see...food...first off, let me say I am not a foodie, and I am extremely easy going when it comes to food. So I may not be the best one to ask about the food...

But I'll give you my perspective as best I can.

Chefs de France...very good food and excellent service. Presentation was nice and the DH had a French beer to boot. Our waiter was very helpful. 2 negatives...one, did not get to see Remy as I stated before, which we were very keyed up for and, two, the children's menu not so great for the under 5 crowd. Although, my daughter was very atypical that whole week with the eating. Between the excitement, the heat and not feeling well, she hardly ate anything -- even when it was her favorite foods. I had the salmon -- with spinach. My husband had the "ribs," although they were not ribs in the American sense. We also had appetizers -- french onion soup for the DH and the bleu salad for me. And we had desserts...sorbet for the DH -- excellent sorbet with fresh fruit (I think my favorite thing there) and I had the dark chocolate mousse cake -- also very good, but I liked the sorbet better.

Spirit of Aloha...I may be biased on this one 'cause it was our date night, but we did enjoy it. Let me preface this by saying that I did pay for the upgrade to Category 1 seating. I think we probably would've enjoyed the Category 2 just as well...especially for the money, but it was a nice evening. I'm attaching photos of the food. A ton of food for the two of us -- we did not finish it all. Fresh pineapple and salad to start. The main course included ribs, a half of a chicken and a rice mixture. Very tasty and extremely filling. Dessert itself slips my mind -- although the initial presentation of it was cool. The waiters come out with a steaming volcano on their tray.

Lunch at the Akershus with the Princesses...I enjoyed the appetizer portion of the lunch. It was served buffet style. Various cheeses, cold salads, smoked salmon, and fruit. We had the venison sausage on the mustard roll, which I enjoyed. I heard several other people complain about it, but honestly I really don't remember the specifics of their complaints. We can't remember the dessert...I'm not sure that's so much a comment on the dessert as it is a comment on the fact that I was super tired that day and I was probably worrying at that point about how to get to Downtown Disney in time for BBB.

And the Tea with the Princesses at the GF...well...very expensive....and not really meant to be known for its food I'd say. My daughter did get a tiara, a wand, a bracelet, a doll, and a small scrapbooking pack of paper. The little girls thoroughly enjoyed their "apple tea" (juice) and I did enjoy my tea (and my first experience with a tea cozy)The girls got small tea sandwiches -- heart shaped pb&j and triangle turkey and cheese; also fresh grapes and strawberries. The adults got some pretty fancy cheeses with crackers, shrimp salad sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, grapes, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. The best part was the cake --YUMMY...now, I am not a foodie, so I can't tell you what it's made of but it was light tasting and pink...again, attaching photos here.

I was going to go with the Standard plan, then was afraid it wouldn't be enough...well, the Deluxe was crazy! In hindsight I think we might have been better off to go with the Deluxe for the DH and I and just the Standard for the DD...if a plan at all...But, as my DH said, "We were never afraid of going hungry." And we spent next to nothing out of pocket on food/drinks/snacks for the trip.

I hope those descriptions help Lizzy...

Ohh that is too bad she was sick at first!! But I am glad she got better much quicker!

The deluxe is a ton of food isn't it?? I can't even imagine. We've always done the standard plan and we still think it's so much food! I am glad you were able to burn some credits on pizza though! That's a great idea!

(And just a little fyi, all your family has to be on the same plan if you are on the same reseervation. So you can't do some people deluxe and others standard. Stinks doesn't it?)

Tori- Thanks SO MUCH for all of the extra time and detail! You've provided some great pics and descriptions of things that I know I've never seen or heard before, and that's so helpful and interesting and fun. You are absolutely right - that cake looks DIVINE!

My favorite picture though has to be the one of your daughter's plate at the tea, with her little hand in it. What a sweet shot that is - perfect for a scrapbook!

Thanks again. I know everyone will really enjoy reading about your trip.
