Pet Resort Update..

I saw this tonight on DisZine..
http://www.diszine.com/content/disney-resort-is-for-the-dogs

I know we were talking about it a few weeks ago..it looks like cost is $37 a night eek and it is replacing all the other kennels on property.

It's too expensive for my taste..but my baby sure would love it there!

That is HUGELY expensive. I can't believe the price is so high. You might as well get a second hotel room for your dog! I bet that will have some people thinking twice.

Do you have to walk your dog twice a day, or will they do that for you for those prices?

I do think the whole idea of this resort sounds like fun but.... I do only think Mister would really enjoy it if we were there with him. I think that putting him in the kennel and visiting him twice a day would be a major problem for both, him and us. First of all we would lose two hours per day just to go to the kennel to visit. And, then I think it would be worse for him for us to keep stopping in to see him but not take him with us.
For me the price is not the factor (we pay more to have someone come and stay at our house with him) as much as no matter as nice it is (and I am sure it is very nice) he would still be caged in a strange place with people he does not know. I am sure (or at least I like to think) that he is much better off at least being in his own home with his own things and routine.

yay I just confirmed the reservation yesterday at Best Friends, for our furbabies and we were upgraded to a "Vacation Villa"...8' x 9' "suite" with a raised bed, flat screen TV and patio!! The rate includes either Playgroup or Cuddle-time depending on the personality of the dog. We are boarding our two "kids" together, they are small dogs, Chihuahua and Mini Doxie so the 8x9 space should be plenty big enough for them.

We boarded them last year at the MK Kennels and were told then about the new facility...can't say as our "babies" have been as excited about the trip as we are but a new, state of the art facility will be an improvement. Does make me wish we were staying at POR this trip...we'd be right across the road from them!!

Pet care has become very expensive but the rate for the deluxe accomodations at Best Friends is still way less than having a sitter come to our home. We were away last weekend and 4 visits (30 minutes each) over 2 days cost us over $100 eek . This way, we will be near them should an emergency arise and they'll have a lot more attention and our Doxie will get to burn off some energy at "Play-group"...he's a very social little guy!!

I'm counting the days...not sure they are though! laugh

That's awesome! Be sure and bring back pictures and a report!

Do your guys ever get kennel cough? We had a dachshund that would ALWAYS get kennel cough when she was boarded. It never really caused her much trouble, but she always had the cough when she came back.

I also booked Gus the Dachshund for our long weekend in early December. We booked a vacation villa as well. I've been following all the comments on their Facebook page and am hopeful it will be as good as my expectations.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's already been there.

Millie -- Would love to see the pics of your babies at the Vacation Villa! Remind me again when you'll be going? Maybe you can put JeffC's mind at ease when his little Dachshund goes!

That sounds like a great decision Millie. I wonder if you'll lose a lot of relaxation time because you'll be going over and checking on the pets all the time? We'd probably go check on them rather than nap!
