The Price Of Magic...

Good Sunday Morning All..Well last night my DW sister made her usual phone call from Los Angeles and I joked with her about giving us back our SpectroMagic parade..She said that it's been two years since she had been to DL but it would cost her, with her hubby and two boys aged 12 and 16 approx $600 for tickets for 1 day..Whit! eek ..They prefer to go to Knotts Berry farm as it's a lot cheaper..I'am now curious to ask my friends on here what you pay for your magic tickets.?..I know that a one day ticket is probably the most expensive way to visit WDW..Our UK 14 day park hopper is approx PS278 ($450) but when we ordered 3 X 14 day park hopper tickets..PS834.00 ( $1335 ) We received a discount of PS88.20 ($140) ..So I'am just curious, as ever, what price do you pay for your magic..P.S....I still think at PS248.00 ($396) for 14 days is magical..

The 1-day price for Magic Kingdom just jumped to $99/day. The 1-day price for EPCOT, DHS, and AK is $94/day. Plus tax.

Our first visit that required us to purchase tickets was in 2010 and we paid just around $300 each for a 9-day base ticket ($33/day).

A current 10-day base ticket is $354 + tax. Park hopper adds an additional $60. There is no 14-day ticket option for those of us in the U.S. Anything over 10 days means that you have to purchase two sets of tickets (minimum cost $448 for 11 days) or an Annual Pass (current non-discounted rate $634).

We never purchase multi-day tickets without checking Maple Leaf tickets and Undercover Tourist. The savings aren't tremendous, but every dollar that I save on tickets is a dollar that I can spend in the parks!

We're currently on a Premium Annual Pass that we purchased with the DVC discount in December 2012 for $425/person. We had one year to activate the pass, so we used it for our 10th anniversary trip beginning December 1, 2013. We did 11 days in December and 5 days last week. We have 5 days coming up in May and 11 days coming up in September/October. So our 32 days of park access will cost us $13.28/day to have park hopper, free water parks and Disney Quest, and all kinds of random 10% discounts around the park. To buy those tickets separately at retail through the WDW website, we would have spent over $1800 just for tickets for the two of us. I will definitely be experiencing sticker shock the next time I have to buy a ticket!

it is pricey, but when you break it down only $43 pp a day that not bad. And if I was going to worry about the $$ we certainly would not be going to Disney. Every penny spent is well worth it

Honestly, I was starting to feel like Disney was getting expensive relative to other vacations that we might like to take, but when I started pricing out cruises (non-Carnival and not out of our local Port of Baltimore), I was surprised to see that a Disney trip is still one of the less expensive things that I can do that actually appeals to me. Most vacations that I was looking at as alternative destinations for next year are in excess of $5000 total cost. I can do Disney for WAY less than that. Cruises look like a great value on the surface, but when you start looking at upgrading your cabin (inside cabin is a claustrophobic's worst nightmare) and adding on excursions, airfare, and in-port dining costs, the total creeps up rather quickly.

Hitting the beach for a week is popular here, but with the cost of accommodations (staying in a nice, clean, reputable hotel on the boardwalk--not at "Bob's beach shack" or some other questionable motel 6 blocks back from the beach), food, gas, and incidentals, I've done Disney trips that are on par with or even less expensive than beach trips!

It's all about the luxuries that you choose on vacation. There are ways to cut corners to make almost any vacation more affordable and certainly you can find a trip to take with your family where you can spend less than you would spend at Disney, but the quality is unlikely to be comparable. Benn just said again this morning that the reason that he loves going to Disney is that the experience is always a net positive. We can't say that about a lot of other places that we've been.

If I were your sister-in-law I would get DL annual passes and go ALL THE TIME. It would be worth every last penny IMO.

Last year two 7-day park hoppers without the waterparks option cost us $783 total. Since hubby ended up going without me last November, he upgraded to an annual pass for an additional amount (don't know how much since I wasn't there, but should have been in line with the figure quoted below) because it would be cheaper than his buying a second length-of-stay ticket when we came this month. Now, because of our November plans, I also have upgraded to an annual pass, and the extra charge to do so came to $266. Still worth every last penny.

I've been reading about this lately and disney of course know how to make money, an annual pas holder will spend more on a day visit then a day guest, the theory is that because you pre paid for your day eating two meals in a park and buying stuff doesn't feel as expensive. Like the dining plan you forget you pre paid for tickets. It's all very cleaver

This is the same as uk visitor, my group are a prime example of how disney will earn more money out of us we have 14 day tickets and free dining, now last year when we didn't have free dining we ate two in park meals a day and split most meals we spent $100 a day. I know that because dining is free I will spend money on extras like snacks, gifts ect and will still easily spend $100 a day, these items make a bigger profit. Plus we are staying in a more expensive resort to get the 'free' dining.

But at PS1200 a person including flights we can't complain.

Oh, don't get me started. We finally popped for annual passes this year. We make a day-trip out of it, and still have averaged $150 in the park on food & alcohol for 2 people each time we've gone...

I bought two 5 day park hoppers from Undercover Tourist the day the newest ticket price increase was announced and it cost me $683 and some change.

I was explaining this to my sister a few weeks ago, and I brought up this point: I LOVE baseball, and I've thrown down some series $$$ to go to games. During the 2012 season, my team was in a crucial one-game playoff and I spent probably $150+ for three craptastic seats, parking, food, and gas. And then my team lost so I walked out of there in tears and just having the worst night ever. And it was all over in about four hours or so.

I'd gladly spend what amounts to $70 a day for a ticket to a park where I can spend upwards of 10-12 hours in with all the entertainment I can possibly handle, have the greatest time of my life and walk away with a smile on my face. Plus $70/day isn't much more than my local Six Flags for a day's visit ($40-$60, though the season passes are only $60 but that's beside the point), and because I'm overweight I have a much harder time riding rides at Six Flags. Plus the employees don't wish me a magical day, and it isn't as clean. So it's very well worth it to spend that money at Disney for me.

Hotels, gas, food, etc naturally make it more expensive but again, not really any more expensive than any other vacation destination for me. And I'm still young enough that I don't want to spend my vacations doing nothing, so I like having entertainment built in for me. If I'm going somewhere else I have to research reputable hotels, interesting things to do, places to eat, etc. It becomes incredibly overwhelming. Disney makes it so easy, it's hard not to just go there every time.

Let's see, on my last two trips, I spent about $850-875 for the whole vacation package though it did help I had a room discount for both trips and I stayed at a value both times. That's not including airfare and transportation and the other stuff. With upgrades in lodging and longer stays, that number will surely go up.

A couple we sing with here in Wisconsin have AP and figure they have to go there no less than 4 times a year to break even on the pass. They stay Value and fly cheapest possible, but WOW it adds up fast. Don't get me wrong, I could only wish, but I think my guilt would kick in first. Every two-ish years is our goal. If the FD goes thru, with flight we are at about $2400 for couple for 7days/6 nights. That doesn't not include "refreshments" of course.

Oldtink....That is how I have to do it as well...save for every 2 years hopefully. I would love to go every year but the pocket book won't and can't handle it.

Doing the math our annual passes make each day we spend in a park cost us around $19.
