reasons to come to Disney World in the summer

Okay yes, it is hot. The rain storms are frequent. And the South American groups can be very annoying. But I am here to give you a few great reasons to visit Disney World in the summer.

1. Infrequent tourists do not know the tricks you know " The park attendance is highest in the afternoon. In the morning and the evening, it actually is not that bad. Right around rope drop most families are still in there hotel rooms. And once the nighttime fireworks are over, most will head back even though the park still has a couple extra hours till close. I know a lot you like to go out in the morning, rest up in the hotel, and hit a park a again at night. Summer is the perfect time to do this. Leading to a similar point...

2. The parks often have later hours " couple weeks ago, I ended up riding Space Mountain at midnight exactly. I know the ride was the exact same it has always been, but for some reason this was the most epic trip ever. Sometimes things are just better for some reason late in the evening I think the voices actors at Laugh Floor are as loopy as we are at this point, this is a must do during late nights.

3. Fourth of July " I knew it would have more than the usual Illuminations when I ventured to Epcot on the Fourth this year. But I did not think it could be that different than any other fireworks show. I know I will not be able to convince all of you, but I was so wrong! Some people left after Illuminations was over. I feel for them. Patriotic music blared as people cheered, but at the finale, the sky did not have an empty spot. They were so everywhere. My Dad and I had to cower down a little. There was no doubt this was one of the most crowded nights I have ever had at any Disney Park (Magic Kingdom was packed out for the evening). But I would not have traded it for any other show. Hands down most amazing display I have ever seen. I think this is really something every Disney fan should experience at some point, along with...

4. Sounds Like Summer Concert Series " Disney brings in several bands during the year for their various festivals at the American Adventure Pavilion that are not super big names because the pavilion could not handle crowds that big. But I have been going to see the cover bands this year, and I am simply blown away. Starting with the Journey tribute band, I also went to see The Beach Boys, Boston, and Bee Gees groups. I am most excited about this week and next to hear the music of BonJovi and U2. Many of the actual bands are still performing, but a ticket to their concerts may cost more than a ticket to Epcot. And since many of them are old, they cannot perform with the energy that these cover bands can. So yes, I am saying that these tribute may very well be better than seeing the actual groups live.

So there are four great reasons to visit Disney during the summer. Can you think of any more? I am sure there must be some. Of course many of you would say that there is not a bad time to visit, and I am with you (except for two days when it reaches like twenty degrees). Find some ways to beat the heat, and the summer is still a great time be at Disney.

All very good reasons to visit during the summer, but I think it just boils down to the specifics of what people like.

Me personally... you won't EVER get me in Disney in the summer because the crowds and the heat. To me thats enough to avoid it period. Thus why I prefer going in November. 70's most of the time, and the crowds are down. But like I said... its different for everyone... Lol

I commend peeps who go during the summer. Those people have TONS more patience than I do... ha ha ha

I hate crowds and I'm not particularly fond of heat. No thanks.

I'm going in early September this year, and I know it will still be sweltering, but at least I won't have to also deal with heavy crowds.

I'm also not a fan of heat or crowds. However, there seems to be more going on during these busy times such as summer concert series and the Frozen events at HS. I must say I am a bit tempted to try it sometime. If i do, I'm going to try for an MK view from BLT for July 4 since that's the week we'd be going due to DH's holidays mickey

You'll never catch me at WDW in July or August no matter what bait is on the hook because of two words...

"Tour Groups"

Hate 'em. 200:5 kid to adult ratio is bad news no matter how you slice it.

I've been one time in july for my granddaughters 5th birthday and her first time to WDW and it was so hot and growded that one day when we were at MK they stopped letting people in for awhile. So thanks but no thanks will never go in July again. And am not interested in August either.

I don't think I could ever handle the Florida heat in the summer months and the crowds definitely worry me a lot. My last three trips were all during Spring Break so you would think I'm used to crowds and all but summer is much different. Everyone is out of school and the notorious tour groups are there with a clear lack of adult supervision from what I've been told. Yes, the parks may be open late but if I really want to beat the crowds, I have to get up early and believe me, staying up late and then having to get up at the crack of dawn right after is not easy and not healthy for anyone to do. (I need my 8-10 hours of sleep and depending on the situation, a nap can turn into a long snooze fest for me!)

Not to mention price wise, the summer months tend to be more expensive compared to most months though it's probably not as expensive as going in Christmas and the holiday break in December. It is unfortunate for some people, the worst times to visit Disney World are the only times when people can go and I've always felt that Spring Break is the lesser of the three evils.

I've been once in June and we're going for our fourth August trip next month. The last week of August is super great for crowd level and we have lucked into coolish-for-the-season weather every time so far (except the very first trip when I was a kid, but that time we went earlier in the month. I do remember it being substantially more crowded than February had been and VERY hot). June was crowded, but it was the weekend after Memorial Day and it was SWW...so...yeah...

Summer's not so bad. I'd rather be hot and crowded in WDW than be cool and uncrowded at work!

There are many advantages to summer visits, I know from experience; that said, I'll never go back in the summer again I can help it, however. The heat & humidity and crazy crowds all combine to make it not so fun for us. When you leave your room in the morning to catch the first bus to wherever and your glasses fog up the moment you step out the door, you know your in trouble. . .

The only summer days we ever enjoyed were:
1. A couple of early AM only days, heading back to the resort for lunch & spending rest of day in pool or napping in cool room.
2. A couple of extended hours evenings (after resting in our rooms or cooling in the pool), especially if we slept in and didn't go out for very long earlier.
3. A special Rainy day. Lots of folks leave the parks when the skies open up so that handles the crowd part - and on one trip in particular, the day actually cooled off and was pretty fun. We used cheap ponchos and were in our Keen sandals anyway. . .and there wasn't any lightning, or much lightning, anyway!!
4. A couple of resort pool only, lounge in the shade and enjoy frosty & fruity beverages days.

I was going to say the same thing-steamy glasses at 7 am was no fun on our August honeymoon! Also, I think we spent more time in the pool than in the parks (that suited DH just fine, but I got pretty antsy)

The summer is fine with me. I will give an honest trip report when I get back especially referring to crowds, tour groups and weather. However in July 2011 none of those things were an issue to us at all.

Exactly! Although I've never traveled during the summer months if the opportunity arose I would jump on it. I also have to keep my thoughts positive since I have a year left until I am a teacher and summer/break times may be my only options for future trips.

I kinda like it. Nothing like a summer night in MK. I prefer that over needing a jacket. Feels kinda magical to me. mickey

DH and I just retired from teaching. Summer trips was the only time available. So I just went and enjoyed the time we had because there was no other option. Now our first Sept trip as RETIRED teachers is coming up in 50 days, so we can try the other side of Disney life!
awesome

One promise I made to my DH was that once retired we would try F&W and the spring Flower and Garden. So last spring when we knew the retirement was official and we started planning, DH saw the food and beer lists and that was it! Besides, we are retired but it's really just a different type of busy for us. Spring is still nuts with music judging obligations (and the additional funds that come with it).

As it is this trip is scheduled AROUND choir rehearsals so that we don't miss obligations in Sept! LOL eek

We were there this past June and it was hot, but being from coastal Texas it was pretty much like home and didn't bother us. My DH met a gentleman from NJ that was miserable. He had sweated through his clothes and he told DH that he had only been in MK for a couple of hours and it wasn't even noon yet. That being said, yes the crowds were large but we did OK because of the FP's. Since it was just us this time ( no kids!), we just took our time and didn't rush. We were able to do everything we wanted!
The rain was not alot of fun, but we only really got rained out one day when we were in Animal Kingdom, but we were already wet from Kali River so yeah...then we rode Kilamanjaro Safari with this major thunderstorm going on and we saw more animals on that trip than we ever have awesome
I just booked a trip for this November and I am looking forward to seeing what the parks are like in the low season and with all the Christmas decorations up yay
