Running Gear

I'm a new runner and will be running my very first race in November. I'll be doing the 5K at the food and wine festival biggrin I'm hoping to train hard enough to be able to do the half next year crossfingers
Anyways, I recently heard about compression pants and shorts. Apparently they are pretty popular with runners and are supposed to help your legs not tire as easily and help with recovery as well. Has anyone else heard of or tried these? Do you like them and are they worth buying? I'm just wondering if i should just stick to regular shorts and jogging pants.

I LOVE my compression shorts for soccer! I also wear them under a dress while at disney. While I don't think they a necessary, I do like them and I can tell the difference when I don't wear them. I am thinking of picking up a pair of the leggings/pants for snowboarding this year

I love them. I wear em almost every time I run. They keep your thigh muscles warm, to reduce fatigue. They also take sweat away from the skin. I def recommend getting them! How's the training been going?

They're not *necessary*, but they are comfy! Especially if your shorts "ride up". And the tights are great in colder weather since cotton/traditional clothes get heavy in rain and snow. As you start to go up in distance, the socks/calf sleeves are great (imo) in aiding recovery as well, and I fully plan on wearing them around the parks after the half in January (after wearing them on the plane out).

Compression gear just feels good...like a hug for the parts that ache. Yep, I should probably be in this: wheelchair

The training has been going pretty good. We run about 3 times a week but no farther than 5K. We'll really have to step up the distance if we want to do that half next year Smile
Our time is about 37 minutes to complete 5K. i think you have to do it in 48 min to keep on pace (although i hear they're pretty easy going about the 5K's)

Wow that's awesome! In all honesty the time on ur first 5K isnt important at all. The feeling of completing it is so amazing! 5K's are pretty lenient. All about fun!

A website I use is www.runnersworld.com they have pretty much everything you need to know. Workouts, running gear, and even a way to find local races and running paths in your area. Keep up the awesome work!
