Sailing From Wilderness Lodge..

Ok folks..On my last visit at PORS i wanted to hire a boat and sail the Sassagoula but never did.. sad However this year at WL I see you can hire the Pontoon boat and the other one ( can't remember the name of it, not sea racer ) Anyway, has anyone hired one at WL and if so, where are limited to sail..I would imagine Bay Lake only..

You are allowed to go on both Bay Lake Seven Seas Lagoon. Do not try and go anywhere that is restricted though or you will be removed immediately and you will not get a refund. Also you have to stay clear of all other traffic, use common sense.

Cheers folks...I used to own a small boat and took folk fishing trips in the Irish Sea so I know how to behave in the water..Looking forward to doing that...

Yep - you can go wherever you want on Bay Lake or on the Seven Seas Lagoon as long as it's not restricted. There is a gator nesting ground on the far side of Bay Lake that gets blocked off, and a couple of service areas that are restricted as well. Law of mass tonnage applies - stay out of the way of other boats, the ferry is not going to be able to stop if you are in its way.

Robyn wrote us a lovely article last year about hiring a boat at WDW. She sailed from the Contemporary but the information goes for Wilderness Lodge as well.

We've rented a pontoon boat and those little two seater boats before. Both were fun. It's annoying you have to wear a lifejacket on the pontoon. It's been a while since we've done this so maybe it's different.

To echo what everyone else said, common sense is your best friend. It's a lot of fun!

Here's the link to our trip report from April 2013. On day 4 we rented a Boston Whaler.
