Shulas Gift Cert! WOOT! What should we try!

DH and I scored a gift cert for Shula's from a friend who was here recently for a convention but didn't have time to use it himself. It will only get us started ($50.) We've never been there, but I believe we have some Shula's fans among us. What are the "can't miss" items on the menu?

Lizzy, Lucky you!! Shula's is my favorite restaurant in the world. You will love it.The attention to detail is great, before ordering the waiter will bring a cart to your table, on it will be all the cuts of meat that they serve and he will explain each steak or other cut of meat to you and answer any questions you may have. It is 1st class all the way. The last time we went the wife and I both had the French Onion soup, Excellent. We then had the Filet, which by itself will just about kill that gift certificate at around $44.00 but in my estimation WELL WORTH IT, 12 oz. of beef that you can cut with a fork with not a trace nor sign of any fat or gristle. we also each had a Baked Potato and topped it off with desert consisting of a Molten Chocolate Lava cake for DW and a creme Brulee for myself. The only drawback to the place is bring money it is very pricey, not a place to visit frequenly but definitely worth a visit. and for us we go every trip.
If I remember correctly one of our regulars here has his name engraved on the "hall of Fame" for eating one of their 44oz. (or larger) steaks which is quite an accomplishment, but I forget who it is.

Is that a restaurant at Disney? Sounds like an award my husband could get for a 44 ounce steak

Yes it is, it is situated in the Dolphin Hotel and of course is owned by Don Shula the former coach of the Miami Dolphins, thus the great tie in with the Dolphin Hotel. An interesting side note is that they give you a football (not to keep) on which the menu is printed Smile they also give you a regular printed menu.

Actually I was off by a small amount in my weight estimate, it is really a 48 oz.Porterhouse (try double what you have done) and it is listed at $85.00 on the menu, and that is ala cart of course. As is you could eat anything else with it laugh

So if its 48... then the bone could be close to one third or one fourth the weight. If they are counting it which most places do... so we could be talking anywhere to an actual 36-40 ounces of meat.... hmmmmmmmmmmm...............

In the words of Phineas... I know what im doing at Disney!

Mase I checked the past threads reference to my earlier post of one of our posters and the 48 oz. Porterhouse and if you check in the Dining threadWAY back to Yachtsman Steakhouse Vs LeCellier Vs Shula's Steaknouse on 1-17-09 and check the second post. It's LeCellierBuff63 (AKA Jim) telling us his experience.
I really wish I knew how to link to that thread but no go, maybe the only way is to bump that thread to the front.

Wow - thanks Vettelover! I knew there was at least one Shula's fan among us!! DH LOVES french onion soup, so that will be a big draw for him. I love steak, but prefer small cuts, so we'll have to see. We'll plan a date nite soon (I think we have to use it by (July 1) and I'll take lots of pics and tell you all about it!

Mase, it's all you, Dude. I've got a race to train for awesome
