There are better things you could be doing, but they're not nearly this fun.
Oh no!! This could be an all-day thing.

Only two levels left to crack.

Only two levels left to crack.
Last two seemed the hardest. I went with all blue skill upgrades, seemed pretty effective. Although I don't think I had a single level where the bad guys never touched the jewels.
I'm going for the perfect (brilliant) rating on every level. Much more fun, to me, than just breezing through all the levels.

It's considerably easier once you have some surplus skill points. I find the stealth champions to be the most likely candidates for ruining my perfect score.
Yes, those ones are pretty sneaky.

Yeah, they are a pain especially the high level ones. Upgrade your magic skillsch and the meteor spell and they're not so tough.
Both of those are maxxed but the one at the end of level 11 still gets through. It's just too quick for me to hit it with enough meteors. Guess I'll have to keep trying (I hate being beaten by games like this).

Do you have the freeze ability maxed out (the last blue one)? That should make it pretty easy.
Thanks for the tip. I'll top that one up next.

On some of the last 5 levels, you can hit a shadow guy right as he comes on the map and he won't reappear until after he's touched a gem. I can't see any way to keep him from touching one without meteors and I still can't kill him fast enough.
As LIFL suggests above, the key seems to be to freeze them before they cloak which gives more time to hit them with those meteors.
I've finally cracked 'brilliant' on level 11 and only just missed it on my first try at 12. Looking ahead, levels 13 and 14 shouldn't be too bad, but level 15

Tony, have you gotten any farther? LIFL? cdub? Looking for more tips ;D

Trying to crack level 14 (currently have an excellent). Once again it's the final champion that keeps spoiling the party. More skills points needed methinks.

What are you having trouble with SpaceAce?
One important aspect I suspect is overlooked is not only where you place your 'turrets' but when. Consider there is only so much XP to go around (that is only so many enemies to kill). You have to be aware on harder levels how you allocate that XP. For example, if you have a lot of turrets near the entrance( in the beginning they are going to level up quickly and take care of most of the early baddies. Problem is the turrets toward the gems are going to get little or no XP, meaning you will not be able to upgrade them and they will be weak later in the level when you really need them. It's usually beneficial not to upgrade the ones in the beginning too early so the ones near the gems can be upgraded. Be sure to spread out your turrets and take time to plot out the best places for them. Look at the range of a particular turret and how much action it is going to get based on location. Sometimes there is a big difference even between adjacent squares.
That's a good sum up of the strategy required. Of course if you leave it too long to power up the turrets something may slip through. I've had a couple of games where I've got the final champion easily, but something touched a gem early on so I missed the 'Brilliant'.

With the stealth champions, I guess you just put a blue tower first and hope it freezes/scares them? Otherwise he's touching a gem.

Yep, you need some balance. Just have to get a feel for when and how much to upgrade early on.
dsoup - Yeah, freezing or scaring them helps a ton. Other towers at the beginning will hit him too if within range. Some of them do a lot of damage and have the chance to add poison or fire damage. Once you know there is one of the stealth champions, at the end or otherwise, you can plan accordingly. Those are usually the hardest enemy you'll face, so you can tailor your defenses largely for them.
