So It's Official I need to make a check list!

Alright guys I officially started working for Disney today and am super excited. I received my WDW ID Card today which gets me into all the parks and discounts just about everywhere else but since I never really grew up as a Disney kid I'm not entirely sure what to do. What I would like to do is put together a list of things to experience at Disney over the next 3-4 months. I'm a huge foodie so particular restaurant specialties is a big thing for me to look into. Obviously the parks and certain rides as well but it's such a large place I know there are a ton of things I wont even think to look into.

If you guys have any absolute must-do's please let me know. I'd love to know some of your favorite things to do on your trips. What are some of the things you look forward to the most when scheduling? Hopefully I can get a list put together by the end of the week and then start working on actually doing some of them. I'll be sure to write back on here how my experiences went. Smile

Thanks for all the help in advance!
Steve aka DJ

I had the shrimp and scallops in the puff pastry with lobster sauce and they were amazing! My hubby said the steak was one of the best he has ever had and he is very picky.

Congrats Steve, now just go! Go to the parks and enjoy man! Live the experience! Start by doing a rope drop and go from there. I didn't grow up a Disney kid either but if I had what you have now I would be having a ball!

Congrats on the new job awesome

I think between us all on this forum we could probably mention every ride, attraction and restaurant as a must-do! Thats the great thing about Disney, there really is something for everyone. For me:-

Entertainment

Hoop Dee Doo Revue is my favourite dinner show
The Festival of The Lion King is my favourite park show
The french acrobat in Epcot WS is also worth watching
Turtle Talk

Restaurants

Teppan Edo, you watch the food being cooked in front of you and it tastes delicious
Tusker House - I loved this place, but i know many people would not list it as a favourite so it's all down to personal choice.
Sci-Fi Dine-In - This is more about the setting than the food!

Rides

Splash Mountain on a hot day
It's a small world - You need to try this at least once for the classic disney ride experience
Soarin'

This is just a very short list of must-dos. I'm sure by the time a few others have contributed you are going to have a very long list laugh

I would recommend taking a walk around World Showcase in Epcot. You will meet Cast Members from all over the world! There are plenty of interesting food and drinks to try and shops with merchandise from each country. You could read all the menus and have a look at the table service restaurants to see which ones would appeal to you for future reservations.

Steve, congrats on the new job. Since you are asking about getting the real experience of Disney, I would really reccomend that one of your stops be the display in Hollywood Studios entitled "One Man's Dream". I think this it will give you an insight of what Disney (your now new employer) is all about.

I'm not actually working onsite at the parks, I'm doing Support and Help Desk at the reservation center for those who have a difficult time using the website while booking their vacations.

I am super excited though, I started taking some of your suggestions and putting together my checklist. It's still fairly small but hopefully we can put together something pretty substantial as I'd like to have it large enough so it takes me a few months to complete it all. I really appreciate all the input though! Smile

I'll throw out some must do's for Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom since you don't have anything from there on your list! My must do's for DHS would be Tower of Terror, Rock'n Rollercoaster, Toy Story Mania, Muppet 3D, and the Great Movie Ride. I also have to get a Red Velvet Cheesecake cupcake from Starring Roles! At Animal Kingdom I must ride the Kilamanjaro Safari and Expedition Everest, see Finding Nemo the Musical, and get a Kobi Beef Burger and lettuce wraps at Yak and Yeti!

Whoo hoo! I'm kind of excited to hear about your trips DJ! You have such a different perspective than most of us and checking it all out is going to help you help the guests you speak with. I think that you'll have a terrific time exploring it all.

Epcot is my husband's favorite park, he says to be sure to hit Soarin' and the new Test Track rides. I love the Grey Goose slushie in France, and if you have time to sit back and catch some entertainment, Off Kilter in Canada is one of my favorite bands.

Thanks Kristen, I'm really looking forward to making the most of my opportunity. I didn't realize you're next trip was only a few weeks away. You must be so excited!

At this point my goal is to just experience as much as I can so that I can make better recommendations for our guests who aren't wordphiles like yourselves and need a bit of help.

Well, My first trip to Epcot was a success! Went over for the day at about 9am and managed to hit Test Track and Mission Space right away. Grabbed a fast pass for soaring and then did the behind the seeds tour which was pretty cool. Went over to the world showcase for a bit and stopped into France for a Grey Goose Slushy and Japan to try the Frushi. Following that we went over to Norway for school bread and HOLY CRAP was that thing huge. I was expecting a small pastry not a softball sized bread roll filled with vanilla custard that had to way at least a pound and a half. We then went back and road Soarin' and took a little break on Spaceship Earth. Then we went back to the showcase and stopped in at mexico for a San Angel Margarita and a little boat ride. Afterwards we grabbed a fast pass for Maelstrom and jumped over to Italy for lunch at Via Nappoli which did indeed have some of the best pizza I've had since being in Rome. We had the Quatro Formaggi Pizza with Prosciutto and Mushrooms which was great. We got done eating at about 5pm and nobody wanted to move so we went and rode Maelstrom and then went over to Nemo and friends and jumped on and then saw Turtle Talk w/ Crush which was fairly entertaining. As much as I wanted to see illuminations nobody felt like staying on their feet anymore so we called it a day after a 9+ hour adventure at Epcot. It was a great team and I'm sure we will be returning soon but at this point I think I'm looking at doing 1 park every weekend until I hit them all. Next weekend though is Typhoon Lagoon for the reopening which happens to occur on one of my days off. WOOT!

Hey DJ, one of these days you will have to rent one of the water Sprites at one of the marinas, preferably the Poly, take a run around Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. We did that in January and had a ball!

I will definitely look into that, I am going to tour 6-8 of our resorts next week so I will be sure to keep a lookout for some fun off site recreation

Hi,

As a CM, do you get to do the tours for free? If so, I highly recommend doing every single one! I have been on almost all of them and there isn't one that I wouldn't do again. AND, having that particular knowledge will make you more helpful to your clients. They really ARE worth the money for us guests.

RESTAURANTS:

Downtown Disney--Fulton's Crab House. The fish (including the crab) is flown in fresh every day!

Epcot--Cape May on the Boardwalk for the seafood (crab!) buffet, and Flying Fish (also on the boardwalk) for almost anything. Season's Cafe (near Soarin') for quick serve that is really good! And the French restaurant-not the new one-(I forget the name) for the French onion soup and bagettes.

Magic Kingdom--Narcoosies--across the water at the Grand Floridian for the filet and the almond crusted cheesecake dessert. Both are hands down the best filet and dessert anywhere on grounds! Crystal Cafe (across the street from Casey's) for the greatest Philly steak cheese sandwich (suggestion--get mozerella instead of the regular cheese--simply scrumptious!)

Animal Kingdom--Yak & Yeti--really good!

Hollywood Studios--Hollywood/Vine buffet, Brown Derby

RIDES

Epcot--Soarin', Test Track

Magic Kingdom--It's A Small World, Splash Mountain

Animal Kingdom--Safari ride, Expedition Everest

Hollywood Studios--Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, Great Movie Ride, One Man's Dream

Be sure to take in every show Disney offers--by seeing them, you can describe the experience to your customers. I have enjoyed Nemo, Lion King, and Flights of Fancy (all at Animal Kingdom). The are MANY others offered throughout the parks.

Patti mickey

Unfortunately we don't get the tours for free but we do get them at half price so I intend on doing most of them. We are however doing some unique tours during our training. Tomorrow we will be touring our about 6 of our resorts and then spending about 4 hours over at Magic Kingdom which I'm pretty excited about. It's going to be a long day but I plan do jam as much in as I can while we're at MK. I'll certainly make sure to try the almond crusted cheesecake and I have to get an eggroll simply because there is a random cart just for eggrolls lol.

And kristen I'd have to say my favorite part of Epcot was people watching at the world showcase. Mission Space honestly was a bit of a let down. I was expecting the Orange section to be super intense after hearing so much about it but I did really enjoy trying the food around the showcase and Soaring and Test Track were nice. Even more convenient was that fact that 9+ hours felt like it flew buy since we weren't cued up outside the entire time. There are a ton of great places that you can visit without having to stand in the heat forever.
