Such a cool news story! Space Mountain added a music track yesterday, and while it doesn't play IN your car like Disneyland, I've heard around the web that it's pretty freakin' cool. I can't wait to try it!

This is very cool. I'm really looking forward to experiencing it!

I wonder if it's targeted speakers around the track or just generally filling the space (pun intended) with noise. Either way it should add an extra dimension to the ride
I can only please one person per day. Today isn't your day... tomorrow doesn't look good either.

I think I read somewhere that it was just general ambient music. I don't think it will be timed to each to each rider or anything. Just general mood music and sound effects.
While the above indicates it's not as impressive as onboard audio, I don't think onboard is always the best answer. Honestly, I think the more ambient setup is more appropriate for Space Mountain. I'll ride both though at some point and let you know (DL effects are onboard).

Sounds pretty cool. Looking forward to the DL WDW comparison, LIFL!

Was the DL version there when you were last there LifL?

Oh yeah, it was built before I was. If you mean the on-board audio, that was installed in 1996. The last time I was there was Grad Night in 1997 but I honestly don't remember the on-board audio knocking my socks off. In fact, I don't remember thinking much of it at all. Perhaps I noticed a difference and I just don't recall now, but I just remember the same great ride experience I've loved most of my life (was my first big-kid ride, remember).
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't Space go through some major renos at WDW recently? Or did I make that up?
It did. I'm wondering if this was a part of that and just got turned on. It seems like it went live awfully fast otherwise, unless they just set up some boomboxes or something.

Yes, and yes. Was apparently part of the long-ago planned refurb. They just happened to finish it up just in time for my trip (rapidly approaching)

Awe awesome! Is the new ride much different than the old one?
The track layout is the same as before, just smoother and darker. Most of the refurb went on the queueing and loading areas.

I fear this is going to be more boomboxes than anything else!

Darker is good too! Since that's the primary appeal of the ride anyway.

I think that would definitely make the ride more interesting. I've always thought it was strange that you could basically look down and see the loading area.
I've also heard that they've gotten rid of the "chocolate chip cookies" projected onto the ceiling -- can anyone confirm?

lol..I took a few seconds to figure out what you meant by "chocolate chip cookies"!
So I am guessing you don't think the moon projections that moved about were lifelike at all?
