Spook's Honeymoon Trip Report

Sadly I have returned from my Honeymoon at the World sad I'm suffering some Disney blues at the moment so I'm hoping that doing my very first trip report will help ease the pain wink
My new husband Erik and I drove to Disney World from Ontario Canada. Nothing overly interesting happened on the drive so I'll skip that part and get right to the magic that is Disney! We were there from November 9-16.

Day 1
We arrived in Florida the night before so we stayed at the Ramada Inn. After checking out we headed for the Wide World of Sports for package pickup. We ran our first ever 5K for the Wine and Dine half marathon weekend. It was cool to walk around the expo and check out all the product. I bought a Jeff Galloway book about half marathons and he was even there to sign it!

After we were done, we headed to the resort to check in. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. It was our first time there and it was great! We usually stay at Value so it was a nice change. Our room wasn't quite ready so we headed to Publix to pick up some snacks. One of my favourite parts about going to the US are the grocery stores! There are just too many different (and yummy!) food items from what we have here. If I ever lived there I think I'd gain some serious weight laugh

By the time we were done checking out the goods our room was ready so we headed back. the room was really nice. We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section. We were super close to the pool and pretty close to the bus stop as well. The food court was a bit more of a walk but walking is definatly a big part of the Disney experience. Once we got settled in the room we took a nap and then had pizza delivered. It was really tasty! We didn't bother going to any parks on the first day. We opted for an early night to get ready to be up really early the next morning for our race.

Day 2
Got up early to be at Animal Kingdom by 6:15am yuck It was a bit cool but once the sun came up it was nice. The 5K was really fun. We finished with a time of 38 minutes. We were pretty proud of ourselves biggrin After the race we hung around for a bit waiting for the park to open. Once it did we headed for the safari. I like the change they did and it was nice to see zebras. After that we did Everest, Primeval Whirl and Dinosaur. We walked around for a bit and then headed to our lunch ADR at Rainforest Cafe. I had the turkey wrap while Erik had some kind of pasta. We finished it off with cheesecake that was delicious.

After that we headed back for another nap. Once we woke up we went to Epcot for our dinner ADR at the Garden Grill. We had never been there before or have ever done any character dining so we were really looking forward to it. It did NOT disappoint! We both loved it! muchlove The food was good and the characters were great. We also got a special little chocolate cake to celebrate our honeymoon. We will be returning there on our next trip.

After dinner we walked around to see what the F&W festival was all about. It looked cool but we were so full that we didn't try anything. Illuminations started and we decided to beat the rush and head for the bus (we'd be back to Epcot later in the week to see it). However, we got sidetracked in Mouse Gear and by the time we got out, the show had just ended. Oh well. We weren't really in a rush anyways.

You may be wondering why in the picture below Goofy is on the ground. It was because he was exhausted just thinking about running the 5K laugh

Well his name is Mr Penguin ( but we just call him Mr). Now as for the back story, it's going to make us seem crazy or maybe just weird laugh
Anyways, Erik is a big fan of going to garage sales and about a year and a half ago he came home with Mr because he knows I just LOVE penguins muchlove Mr started out as just a regular little stuffed penguin hanging out on the table and then slowly we created a personality for him. It's actually gotten pretty bad as you can see. We are now attached to him like he's a real family member. It's kind of like how people love their pets. We could be worse though. Although we do take him pretty much everywhere we go, he mostly stays in my purse but he does come out sometimes as is shown in the pictures. Hopefully you all don't think we're off our rockers laugh Mr is a HUGE Mickey fan afterall mickey

Day 3
We slept in a little bit and then headed over to Hollywood Studios. We didn't really have much time to do much before our lunch reservations at 50's Prime Time. Again, this was new for us. I really liked the theme and decorations. After reading reviews we made sure to remember to keep our elbows off the table. The food was excellent. I had meatloaf while Erik had pot roast. For dessert he had cheesecake and I had the apple crisp. For drinks Erik had a coke float and I had the PB&J milkshake. It was huge! They give you enough for 2 glasses full. It was so good but I just couldn't finish it sad

After lunch we went to see the Beauty and the Beast stage show. We've seen it before but Erik didn't remember it. He liked it though. We didn't end up doing any of the big rides like Tower of Terror or Rockin Roller coaster. We did spend quite a bit of time in the animation studio building though. We got a picture with Mickey and drew Woody. That was definately a good laugh. I am not an artist.

We went to Pizza Planet for supper. It was the least crowded I've ever seen it. We shared a pizza combo and got the cappuccino cupcake everyone's been talking about. It was fantastic! I wish I had one right now actually. After dinner we saw Fantasmic. It's my favorite night time show because of all the characters. We finished off the night by catching the last show of Muppet Vision 3D.

Day 4
Today was started off by going to Blizzard Beach for a few hours. We did most of the slides. I always seem to have a problem crossing the finish line on the toboggan racers but I finally made it across this time (although we went again and I came up short). We skipped Summit Plummet this time around. We have done it in the past though. We spent some time relaxing in the lazy river and riding waves in the wave pool. For lunch we split a Sand Pail. It was huge! We did not expect it to be so big. You need at least 3 people to finish it. The Sand Pail contains vanilla and chocolate soft serve, hot fudge, caramel, strawberry, oreos, waffle pieces, sprinkles, whip cream and some cherries. It was insane.

With our bellies full of ice cream we headed back to the room to get ready for MVMCP. The last time we went the weather was very cold. We had winter coats, hats and mitts on (and we're from Canada!). This year it was nice and warm. Unfortunatly my camera decided it didn't want to work during the fireworks so i couldn't take any pictures. It was still acting up during the parade but I managed to get some pictures. We had great seats for the second parade. We were by Pecos Bills. We rode quite a few rides while we were there. We hardly waited for anything. We did Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain (personally I think it's better at night), Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Small World, Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland Speedway, Buzz, Carousel......we did a lot in just a few hours. It was great. We stayed right until the end.

Day 5
This was Epcot day. The F&W festival ended the day before. When we first got there we headed straight to the Boardwalk. We had never been there before or even knew it existed eek I always just assumed that Boardwalk was just another name for Downtown Disney. It was really nice there and nowhere near crowded like the parks which was really nice. We had pizza from the Pizza Window for lunch and an Oreo Bon Bon cupcake from the Boardwalk bakery. Both were excellent. We walked around but didn't go too far into the resorts. Next time we might rent some bikes to tour around on.

We headed back to Epcot to tour the World Showcase and rode Maelstrom. We also watched the Norway and China shows. We were hoping to catch the Behind the Seeds tour but it ended at 4:30 and we got there at 5:00 sad We rode living with the land instead. We then had dinner at Sunshine Seasons. I had spicy cashew chicken (I don't eat much spicy food but for some reason I really wanted it). It was definatly spicy but I enjoyed it. For dessert I had pumpkin cheesecake. I think it may have been the best cheesecake I've ever had! We also went to the Character Spot to meet Mickey and his friends.

After dinner we walked around the showcase again. While we were checking out the menu on the closed down South Korea booth, there was a man, woman and their child in a stroller sitting near by. I was sure I heard her say the F word eek soI looked over and as I did she slapped ( and I mean slapped) her man across the face! Erik didn't see it but he sure as heck heard it. It was dark so hopefully not many other people (or kids) saw it happen. She stormed off right after and he waited a few seconds before grabbing the stroller and slowly following her. I think he was embarrassed but he sure took it like a champ. He actually apologized to us several times for having to witness it which i thought was nice of him. Personally I don't think violence like that is ever necessary, but it certainly shouldn't be done somewhere so public and full of kids like Disney. And in front of their own child! Terrible example.

Once that awkward moment was over we watched Illuminations. It was good as always. We pretty much called it a night after that and headed back to the room.

Day 6
We started off at Animal Kingdom. We rode the safari again and then walked around a bit. I finally saw Di Vine! I've heard about her but had never actually seen her before. It was quite bizarre but really neat. We had lunch at Tusker House. The food was really good but it was really loud and busy. The characters also seemed rushed. I liked the atmosphere and character experience better at the Garden Grill. However, I did enjoy myself at Tusker House.

After lunch we wandered around a bit more. We did most of the rides earlier in the week so we didn't feel the need to do them again. We went to get our pictures taken with Mickey. I thought it would be safari Mickey but he turned out to be in his Christmas outfit. I've never seen that before. mickey

We ended our day early and went back to the resort to change to go to Downtown Disney. Since we were at the Riverside we were able to take a boat which was cool. We did some shopping and then went to Disneyquest. We tried the Fix It Felix game but it was really hard! We did the Buzz Lightyear astro blasters a couple times. We also drew Goofy. Once again Erik's turned out better than mine. After playing a few more games we went to T-Rex for supper. I had the Paleonzoic sandwhich and Erik had a HUGE burger. For dessert we shared the Ice Age Indulgence. Everything was once again fantastic! Once we were done dinner we caught the boat back to the resort.

Day 7
Magic Kingdom day! We got up early and headed to the park for 8:30am to make it to rope drop. I did not this existed until I joined this forum so I was excited to see it. Unfortunatly, they did rope drop at 8:00 when the park opened for EMH sad Maybe next time. The weather was a bit cooler but it was still ok. Our warm cinnamon roll from the Main St Bakery warmed us up biggrin We went on Space Mountain and Buzz and then went to check out the new Fantasyland. It's looking pretty good. We wandered around Storybook Circus and met Donald and Goofy. We also went on the Little Mermaid ride which was nice too. We also went on the Liberty Bell.

For lunch we went to Liberty Tree Tavern. It was our first time there and it was great. This time I was the one eating a big burger while Erik had the Colony salad. For dessert he had the fruit crisp and I had the ooey gooey toffee cake. It was so good! Probably one of the best desserts ever! I think I saw a recipe for it the other day on the DFB so I may have to try it out.

We called it a day early in the afternoon and went for a nap. We were planning on taking pictures around the resort when we got up but when we did it had started to rain. We did laundry instead laugh We got pizza for supper and ate in the room. It was a nice relaxing night. Erik became addicted to watching Jungle Gold. Sadly (for him) we don't get that channel back home.

Day 8
Last day Sad( We spent the morning taking pictures around the resort before heading Magic Kingdom. Once we got there we bought the bride and groom ear hats. We waited until the last day thinking they might be uncomfortable. However they were nice and we regretted not getting them earlier in trip. We didn't do any rides, just wandered aimlessly around getting our last bit of Disney before the drive home.

We got some pictures taken by the castle, had lunch at Pecos Bills ( I had the taco salad, Erik had another burger), saw the Dream Along with Mickey show at the castle, grabbed a mint ear hat brownie for the road and saw Mickey one last time. It was (as usual) hard to leave. It was a great trip and we have no complaints. I did look forward to getting home and making our own meals though. It's hard eating out so often.

I don't think we were even half way home before we started talking about our next trip. We are thinking of trying either the TOT 10 miler or the Wine and Dine Half next fall. The 5k really inspired us! Let the training and planning begin! yay

Thanks for reading my first trip report. I hope you all enjoyed it! stars

Thanks for a great and very enjoyable trip report. I think Mr. is very adorable and enjoyable and it is not weird at all, there is someone on this board who bring Donald Duck with him and I love to read about his exploits in WDW and on Disney cruise lines.

The ears are actually a tree ornament. We bought them at the boardwalk but saw them all over the place afterwards.

My youngest daughter had a Teddy Bear she got from Germany in Epcot at age 3 that was named Klaus. She took him *EVERYWHERE* it was impossible to separate the two. Somewhere along the line my husband and I decided that Klaus was a real trouble maker. One of us would put him into different "in trouble" situations and then when the other found him they would say "Katie, you weren't watching Klaus and he's in trouble again!" Klaus liked to dig in the cookie jar, hang from the overhead lighting, stack wood for a fire in the fireplace, just all sorts of mischief. So, umm... no... don't really think you're crazy for Mr. Penguin.

Oh yea... my Duffy Bear, he's a drunk. Here he is hanging out at the bar in Orlando International laugh
