Tell me your thoughts on the Wilderness Lodge..

So with my May '11 trip canceled I have been hard and work planning May '12 in my head.

And no..I can't handle the thought of changing my countdown. Denial is my friend.

So with an entire extra year to plan and save we are upgrading! We are definitely going to aim for a deluxe. We have done AKL before and LOVED it. We thought about staying there again but with a 2 and a half year old we may regret being so far out. We were thinking about trying Wilderness Lodge instead. The boat ride to the monorail is calling my name. I have been there a few times to eat at Whispering Canyon but we've never stayed there. Have you stayed there? What are your thoughts? How is it compared to AKL?

Bella, we love it! muchlove It's a gorgeous resort, and there are so many fun activities for your little guy. I think Wilderness Lodge has more fun things for a toddler to do than many other resorts. The nature walk over to Fort Wilderness will be a blast for him (just bring his stroller in case he gets tired).

WL is very nice, but the bus service always seemed ridiculously slow to us there, plus it's shared with FW so they can be full sometimes. Othewise loved it.

I desperately want to tell you my thoughts! - but I've never stayed there. I've always, always wanted to, though. I actually have girlfriend coming down in a couple of weeks - it will be her, her DH, and their DD5 for DD's first trip. They're staying at WL, so I'll happily get their opinions for you. And if our schedules work out, maybe I can see their room, too.

Wilderness Lodge is great for the money. I really enjoy it there. If I wasn't paying I'd stay at AKL, Contempo, etc...but for the money it's great.

I haven't stayed at the Lodge yet, but I'll be staying there later this year. I'm really excited and there appear to be lots of great activities at the resort itself.
I like this website
http://www.wildernesslodgesite.com/
as it gives very detailed descriptions about the resort. I want to go on the lodge tour!
Also, they have rubber duckie races, how fun is that!

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! We stayed there 2 years ago. It is BREATHTAKENLY BEAUTIFUL! We stayed in a studio room in the "Villa" section. Very relaxing. Disney's attention to detail is out of this world! The whole resort is designed to make you feel like you are in Montana, Wyoming, etc. The geyser is cool and goes off every hour until 10pm. There is an electic light parade on the water at 9:30 or so. We just watched from the boat dock.

They have a free arts and crafts club for little ones called "Cub's Den". There's a stream running through the lobby- and the music in the lobby is wonderful! So wish they had a CD for that.

Go for it!!!

Jess - Last week I believe it was right around 9ish when we were there, but it might be earlier in the fall/winter. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to tell you at the concierge if you stop by before heading to dinner.

Jess, I think you can get a pretty good view of it from the dock outside the Wilderness Lodge.

For some reason, the Wilderness Lodge doesn't hold any interest for me! I can't pinpoint why!

Bella,
I've only stayed in the DVC units in WL.
I found them a long trek from the lobby.
The themeing is nice though but we had a view of the pine trees.

The service was good and the lobby as you know is great.
I used the boats instead of the buses and it was nice being able to ride the boat during Wishes while we went "home".

Our studio room was in the Villas section. We were on the ground floor right by the quiet pool. You had to walk this really cool covered "boardwalk" type trail to the lobby but it wasn't that long. We realy enjoyed listening to the music playing.

This resort is very relaxing and peaceful. At least it was the first week of October when we went. My husband swears this is his favorite resort to stay at.

I think the electric water parade was at 9:20pm but you can always check with the CM at registration when it begins.

I love the Wilderness Lodge, the themeing is just spectacular. In my opinion Whispering Canyon Cafe' is one of the most fun places to eat in WDW. I haven't stayed in the Villas yet, we were in a standard room. My biggest problem was that we were put into a bunk bed room and my daughter refused to sleep in it, so I had to. I'm about 5'7" and was a little too tall for the bed.

Ya know...this is how I feel about AKL. I mean, the animals and theming are cool and all, but I just have no desire to stay there. Every other deluxe on property trumps AKL for me.

This is my FAVOROITE hotel at Disney. I could sit in the lobby forever. The Whispering Canyon Cafe is great and Artisan Point is a great romantic restaurant. I wish I could stay there every time.
