Test Track

I mentioned how I felt about TT in another thread, but wanted to talk a bit more about it.
TT did not do a thing for me. I found it downright boring. It's one of the only rides I've ever been on at WDW that was so underwhelming for me. Was I just having an off day the one time I rode? Is there anyone else here (VetteLover perhaps) that's driven a very fast (ie highly modified) car that wasn't thrilled with TT? Maybe I just missed my car since I was on vacation without her:)? On any other ride, my car would not have crossed my mind, but given the theme of TT all I could think about was: my car is much faster 0-60, handles better, and brakes better (at least on the seat-of-your-pants-o-meter).

In my opinion, the "thrill" portion of Test Track isn't even it's appeal. To me, the draw of Test Track is, like so many other great Disney attractions, the themeing. It's not just a ride on a banked track in an open car going 65 MPH that makes it exciting (thought that is fun). It's the "test dummy" theme, the queue area and everything else that makes it an "E Ticket" attraction that makes me want to visit TT.

With that said though, TT is no longer a "must-do" for me anymore. I'll experience it if conditions are right (crowd level, timing, FP wait time, etc.).

So does that mean that you also dislike (i) EE (ii) Thunder Mountain Railroad (iii) Space Mountain (iv) Rock 'N Roller Coaster, etc.. ? All of them are slower than 65 mph.

If speed is the only criteria that you use that can satisfy your level of enjoyment, then Ceder Point should be the park for you, not Disney. However, you prefer to be immersed into the whole experience and the "story" that goes with the ride, as explained by Imagineer, then a Disney theme park would be more suitable.

While I think that ZapperZ's point that speed isn't the whole, or even the main, criteria of a good ride, I tend to agree that I've always been a bit underwhelmed with Test Track. I actually think that Imagineer's comment points out to me why it doesn't do that much for me, which is that it's premise is around a car testing track. That doesn't have anywhere near the psychological impact that a Indian Mountain or a crazy mine car or whatever have on me. I don't really get as excited by "non-fantasy" theming. It doesn't tickle my psyche as much or whatever.

Also I feel like Test Track may suffer from raised expectations for me. Given the wait I, the first time I was kind of expecting a bit more. I think my most distinct memory from the first time was the part with the heat lamps and the cold and the acid. I thought that part was clever.

As LifL points out, because you're in a car, you think about your car and compare. I think that's really Test Tracks flaw. It doesn't put you in what seems a terribly unusual situation to you. I wouldn't quite call the ride "boring," but it's definitely low on my list of "must ride" rides.

I'm agreed on this. It used to be an "every-time" ride, but now no longer. The wait is usually too long to justify the ride. Maybe I'll try single-rider next time.

While test track is not one of my top 5 favorite attraction, and I am not a big "car guy", it is still one of one of the fun things to do. I always do the single-rider line and have no patience for the long wait times on the stand-by line. That makes the ride well worth the short wait times. And riding it at night feels different than riding it during the day.

It is also a favorite ride for many who can't do roller coaster and feels a bit "safer" since it is essentially a car ride. If I recall correctly, before Soarin' opened at The Land, when the rope dropped at Epcot in the morning, people swerved to the left to go directly to Test Track (and/or Mission Space). Even now, the fast pass for Test Track runs out quicker than any other rides at Epcot, except for maybe Soarin'. So it is still a highly popular attraction.

I still like TT - I'm not at all a car guy. I agree about the single rider line - it goes MUCH MUCH faster than the regular line. If I can do it with a relatively fast wait, I will always do it.

I think that maybe that's part of the problem is that it's a really long wait. I also think that one key difference between Test Track and the others is that the "speedy" part is really just kind of straight ahead acceleration. There's no drop or anything. I don't think it's a bad ride, but I'd agree that it's not a "top tier" ride, like the Mountains, Expedition Everest, Soarin, RnRC, ToT or TSMM.

Speed doesn't have much of anything to do with it. I love all the rides you mentioned. They all have more to offer in my book, than TT. I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from insinuating perhaps 'Disney isn't for me'. I've made it abundantly clear TT is the exception, not the rule. I was trying to ascertain if anyone felt the same way. Seems to me it is a combination of factors that detract from my enjoyment of the ride. While I did enjoy the queue, I think (as someone mentioned) the non-fantasy theme is an impedance to the normal Disney suspension of disbelief.

I'm fully aware of the reasons I love Disney parks. Looking for reasons I (and others) were not crazy about TT. In any case, I am going to give it another shot.

LIFL: I just noticed this thread and I guess I missed it earlier. When it comes to Test Track I must admit it is a good ride for me but it does not even come close to the thrill of a REAL high performance automobile. Now I should say that my Corvette is a mid-year C-2 so it mostly goes to various car shows and cruise nights, and I do NOT "drive it like I stole it anymore" laugh However, I have some real life experience with "fast" cars and up until last year I worked on a real drag car that woul accelerate from 0 to 220 MPH in 6.3 secs and let me tell you that that will set you back in the seat more than just a little and your seat belts better be REAL tight when you pull the chutes. Test track tries imitate severe conditions but it is still just a simulation and will never be any more than that.
and now you have me wondering what kind of car do you have personally, as you can tell I love high performance cars BUT only on the drag stip and NEVER on the road, (after all I spent a lifetime(30 years) in LE) which I understand your are in. Keep up the good work. Sorry if I got long winded.

Sent you a PM about my car as I didn't want to bore everyone else with those details.

Can't change the way I feel about TT without going on it again, but in retrospect it was an oppressively hot August day with CRAZY wait times for all the good rides when I went on. Even Soarin' lost some points for that. Fast Passes were gone for both by the time we got to them (amateur mistake on my part, I know) and after waiting over two hours for Soarin' while pushing a wheelchair up the ramp two feet at a time it would have had to give me a back rub and cook me dinner after the ride for me to be really impressed with it. So, everything that day was somewhat lacking.
