How Many of your Memories are on Rides?

In subvetss introduction, he mentions that they've only been to a park twice in all the times they've gone. I was thinking to myself today:

Of my best memories at WDW, how many of them were on a ride? Don't get me wrong, I love the rides and I'm not ready to abandon them, but most of my best moments were doing something else. Now I will say that a lot of them were in the parks, so I'd have trouble abandoning the parks altogether, but I've had plenty of nice times in the restaurants and resorts and other assorted places. What do you guys think?

First thing that comes to mind for me is the first time I ever rode a "big ride". I was just tall enough to ride and my mom promised me I would love Space Mountain. She said she'd give me $5 if I didn't...that was like $500 in kid money:) I loved it, and the rest is history.

When I was younger (probably around Cool my family went down to disney world (my first time) and I can remember riding BTMR over and over and over again. It was all I wanted to do. It was about a year after that my parents got divorced and seeing my father after that got less and less. It is one of my favorite memories of happier times.

Granted now that I am grown-up, looking back, I am glad my parents divorced, because they just weren't right for each other and they never seemed to get along. Yet this remains one of my favorite disney memories.

The second, would have to be when I took Jim for his first time to WDW last year. Watching his face as he experienced everything made my trip. I didn't care what we did.

Walt Disney World memories have a way of getting fuzzy around the edges (in a good way), and getting all of the good times rolled in. I'm glad you have that memory of your family and even more glad that you have the memory of your new "family" experiencing WDW for the first time. mickey

I have a good mix of ride-based experiences and not. As you said, you could definitely have a good time without ever getting on a ride, but my first time on Splash Mountain was probably what sealed the deal for me in becoming a Disney lifer.

Isn't is amazing how some of the rides can manage to do that?

Thanks!! It is nice to have a memories like those, and I hope to be able to pass them down to my children someday. (memories of disney of their own, not fighting divorced parents)

I'm not sure I have great memories about individual rides, but I DO remember the A,B,C,D & E ticket books and fooling with them in the early days of WDW.

Thank God they got rid of those things!

It's interesting how those things don't work with people's psyches. I'm sure we pay for it in longer lines, but it just seems wrong to go into a theme park and not be able to ride whatever you want. That's one of the reasons I never did any of the rides at Six Flags that you had to pay extra for.
