Things They Could Really Use In Downtown Disney

Here's my list:

Monkeys

An Automat that dispenses food to weary travelers who have arrived when all the restaurants on property are closed.

Disney Characters

A store that sells furniture made to look like furniture you see on rides (The desk from Tower of Terror, the staircase in the computer room from Spaceship Earth, giant game boxes from Toy Story Midway Mania...)

A petting zoo with audio-animatronic animals like Lucky the Dinosaur

A cheese shop (get it? Mouse? cheese?)

I think a cheese shop would be a great addition, but everyone buys stuff at DTD to take home; You couldn't really bring cheese home on the airplane...

Golden Corral rules! Although I don't know that I want one invading WDW. I love it at home though. They have really good clam chowder for a buffet, and they always have oyster crackers (clam chowder is no good without oyster crackers).

There are two Golden Choral's on Internation Drive already. As much as I like them, they are probably considered too 'low rent' for Disney.

Character dining would be awesome to see at DTD and a couple of good music bars... oh they had them and closed them sad

Agreed that good music bars would be great. You can always do House of Blues or Jellyrolls in the meantime, but something good and free would be nice...

You guys only like Burger King because you don't have Whataburgers. Come visit us in Texas and you'll have a real fast food burger.

Golden Corral on the other hand is a winner in any state!

I have never been to a Golden Corral. What am I missing?

All you can eat buffet with loads of reasonable quality choice for about $15.

The decor in the ones on International drive is basic, like a roadside diner imo. The price and immense quantity of food on offer makes it popular withthose who have LARGE appetites.

I've only been to Golden Corrals a couple of times as they don't have them in NJ, but I have to say overall I'm impressed - much better than the really crappy Old Country Buffets we used to have here!

I haven't eaten there either. Thanks for the tips. I guess I always thought they were just like Old Country Buffets, which I haven't been a big fan of.

I have been to Golden Corral a few times and am not impressed by it. The "steak" is not good at all and that is what they advertise for a lot.

Would NOT want to see it at Downtown Disney. Compare it to the Disney Buffets and it looks like Old Country Buffet...or worse!

As the self-appointed resident Golden Corral expert and evangelist, I'm going to take some time to address this issue:

Decor is definitely not the selling point of Golden Corral. Service can also be problematic, although all they really have to do is get you drinks.

There were several different versions of Golden Corral and Old Country Buffet is by far the worst I think. I think all you can eat buffets work better the farther South you go.

Now I'm not promoting a Golden Corral in DTD, there's plenty within range. But let's be careful when we disparage the GC! laugh

I've always been surprised by how proud they seem to be of their steak. It's one of their really weak dishes.

Whew! I feel better now!

I wonder if a wine bar would work there? Or is there one already?

Actually, I was going to say (when SpaceAce mentioned cheese) that a nice wine and cheese bar/store would probably work very well. I don't drink, but I would enjoy spending time in one sampling different cheeses from around the world. We got some farm-fresh raw milk sharp cheddar at the farm show that was pretty fantastic.

I think that would be a great idea. There's no wine/cheese bar there that I know of, and I bet that would be something the Saratoga Spring guests would pop over to try in the evening.

I actually would go try that out. It could be a combination of retail and dining too so they could get a lot of use out of it. Maybe we should open one? silly

That would be nice, and I know I would be there at least once a trip. They could also sell the wines that they have in Germany and France and Italy in WS. They have some excellent wines.

Have you noticed that the DVC gift shops have pretty large wine displays? I think it'd be a great addition.

Given how stressed out I've seen a lot of people at WDW, I'm sure that there's plenty of demand for wine. I think the wine bar is a great idea although I expect that a lot of parents use the wine medicinally and don't have time to relax and enjoy it. laugh
