WDW For Grownups First Unofficial Meet?

The discussion that some of us had in another thread led me to think of the possibility of maybe organizing a meet-up with members of this forum some time this coming summer. Announcing it now might be good so that people can plan in advance (unlike the announcement of some D23 events!). I'm willing to plan and organize it if we have enough people who would want to join in.

My initial thought so far is to have it in the Chicagoland area. The most obvious meeting place would be the Woodfield Mall so that some of us can visit Doorway to Dreams (or do some shopping at the many stores at the mall). We can then do lunch or dinner together, etc... etc. Not only that, depending on when we select the date, if it coincides with the Windy City Pin Traders monthly pin meet, I can extend the invitation to everyone attending to come to our pin meet and meet many more Disney "fanatics" from the area.

Certainly there's certainly plenty of options on what we can plan on doing. Of course, this all depends on whether anyone would even want to do something like this. I certainly can try to persuade Brad to come. Smile

So what do you think?

Zz.

I love the idea! But Chicago won't be feasible for me. However, if we all descend on WDW en masse, let me know Smile I could probably swing a meet up down here!

Thanks for thinking of us ZZ!

Sounds like fun to me but I don't go to the parks so it lets me out.

I was ready to say "No way I'm going to Disney World in the summer heat," but then I read further and realized you were proposing Chicago. I still can't say "yes," but I can say "maybe."

OK, so it looks like it might be a possibility. Even if we have, say, a handful of people, that could be a lot of fun just to meet up and go some place for lunch or dinner (I know of a very good Greek restaurant near Woodfield Mall).

Anyone want to suggest a possible date, or range of dates?

Spring is CRAZY busy for me this year, so Late Feb through Mid-May are out. After that though, I'm pretty flexible.

I'd love too as well but a trip to Chicago just isn't happening anytime soon for this girl! I'd love to see pictures of a meet and greet though..that would be awesome!

I've actually never been to Chicago that I can recall. What are some things to do in Chicago?

Brad - I don't know if you're kidding or not. But let's start with what you like to do in your hometown? Chicago is a melting pot of AWESOME! I wouldn't trade this city in for anything.

Agreed! I LOVE Chicago! My dad lived in Schaumburg when I was growing up and we loved our visits. I was back in 2007 and would love to plan another trip.

As a non-Chicagoan, I will humbly suggest awesome museums, sporting events, shopping, Lake Michigan outings, and restaurants. It's a pretty city, too. Our Chicagoland friends will have much more detail to share, no doubt.

If they're in town, go see a Cubs game. Wrigley is one of the two oldest ballparks in major league baseball, so I say go for the history even if you aren't a baseball fan. We were there back in the mid-90s and got to hear Harry Caray sing during the seventh-inning stretch. That alone was worth the trip.

And then if you're ever in Boston, go see the Sox at Fenway. That's it. All the other old ballparks are gone now. sad

I meet up would indeed be fun. Joe and I probably would not be able to swing a trip to Chicago this year though.

He and I have never been there, and we want to visit some day. We've driven by it many time though going from Minnesota to Pennsylvania, and always say "we need to visit here some day!".

OK, so based on the feedback that I got, I think the most suitable time period will be from early June to early Fall. I would put the span between June 2-Sept. 2 and Sept. 22-Oct. 14. If you have school-aged children, the latter will probably not work if you have to travel.

I will go ahead and suggest a few dates below (all of them fall on Saturdays):

June 2
June 16 (coincides with WCPT monthly pin meet)
June 30
July 7
July 21 (coincides with WCPT monthly pin meet)
July 28
Aug. 4
Aug. 18 (coincides with WCPT monthly pin meet)
Sept. 29
Oct. 6
Oct. 13.

Other dates are certainly possible, so please let me know if you have a suggestion. I try suggest the ones that coincide with the WCPT pin meet because (i) we meet at a Fuddruckers, so there's a place to sit, to talk, and to eat, (ii) they give us a room all to ourselves, (iii) you'll be surrounded by other Disney fans, (iv) we are a friendly bunch, and (v) we don't bite unless you want us to. We also end by mid afternoon, so there's plenty of time to head on over to Woodfield Mall to descend on the Doorway to Dreams store and also do power shopping if so inclined.

So, any takers and any particular dates that people prefer?

Zz.

I'm good with whatever the majority decides Smile
I'm currently free for most of those dates.
