What camera do you use in parks?

What kind of camera do you bring in the parks?

I am going to be buying a DSLR next month and wonder if I should bring it with us or take or little one.

I debated on getting a DSLR before my last trip, but wound up getting the Canon PowerShot S90, which is an Advanced Point & Shoot. Really it just came down to the fact that even though the pictures would be awesome, I just didn't want to have to carry around a large camera with me everywhere.

I use a Panasonic TZ10 and Panasonic FZ45 (Bridge) depending on my mood. I think after years of lugging film cameras around I have given in. I should get a DSLR but can't be bothered, getting to old...

I have a little Sony camera that's about 8 years old that I just LOVE.. it fits in my pocket, takes great pics and I can add a zoom lens to it.
On trips 1 and 2, I pretty much used only this camera and occassionally would take out the cell phone to take a pic of something I wanted to share right away.
But.. on trips 3-6, I pretty much only used my cell phone lol. But it takes good pics too

I have a little point and click that I take like a Sony sure shot or whatever. Hubby takes his DSLR though and so does my father in law. Mine doesn't take the best pics...i always have problems with them coming out blurry so that's why I'm glad hubby takes his.

Last year, my husband and I took both our DSLR and our point-and-shoot cameras.

Because we didn't want to carry around the big camera all the time, we planned times to take it to the parks when we wouldn't be going on water rides or roller coasters.

I'd recommend taking the DSLR if you don't mind planning quieter times at the parks. We used mostly the point-and-shoot camera, but it was worth bringing the DSLR for the amazing Cinderella Castle pics we got!

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XTi DSLR. I love this thing, but wish I had a better lens for it. For Disney I use my Dads lens because he likes to video tape. This thing is a beast. Just wish my zoom was better and the stabilizer was better.

But to answer your question. Yes! You wont regret it. I throw mine in my book bag, and go. I recently even bought a portable tripod for it so I can take some better pictures at Disney this year.

It depends on what you are looking to do in my opinion.. If you are just hoping for some good photos to remember the trip by then there is nothing wrong with just a point and shoot. I can't go to the parks and not try to create some artistic images with the amazing surrounding so I am always taking my DSLR and I have a big Canon 50D with a battery grip! Granted, photography in my career choice so I always look at photos that way.
We also carry a point and shoot that I use a lot for video and random fun images of Andy and I. It does take good photos that I use for my scrapbooking and stuff but I cannot convince myself it is okay for art..

Sony Alpha a 300 with add on vertical control grip and I carry two lenses, 12-35, and 28-300. Use a mono pod for night and parades. Also carry a sony digital Hi-8 camcorder and use the monopod for parades and fire works. It can get a bit heavy after a full day but my favorite Disney collectables are the pictures I take at the parks. I almost forgot a water proof bag for use in rain or on Splash Mountain.

I use a high-range dslr and carry multiple lenses as well as a tripod. We have 1,000's and 1,000's of Disney photos taken with a dslr. If you have any questions about what you may need, please contact me. I would be happy to help you and can suggest a good lens that isn't too pricy as well as a couple other things. I don't ever carry a point and shoot. I do carry a iphone with a camera app just for a few photos where I can update family/friends at home (1 photo a day is all I update).

Great advice everyone, thanks!

I think I may bring a DSLR for this trip. We will be going in September, and I think we won't be too rushed. I would love to get some good, clear photos of my son. The last 2 trips they have been blurry and just not great quality!

My family and I are going later this week; I want to bring my Canon D50 and my small handycam. I was thinking of putting them in a small backpack - Does disney offer anywhere to keep these kinds of things if you decide to ride say a rollercoaster?

Thanks!

If its in a back pack, you can take it with you. I usually put my legs through the straps, and then it wont go anywhere. Especially on Tower of Terror. If you dont feel comfortable doing that, then you can ask a cast member to hold it for you and you can get it on the way out. I have about the same in my back back, and throw in an iPad... lol, and between the legs works for me.
