It is really hard for me to decide because each decade brought it's own variety of greast music..the 60's gave us The Beatles and the beach boys, the 70's gave us Queen and Pink Floyd, the 80's gave us Prince and U2, the 90's gave us Nirvana and Pearl Jam.....etc. Of course those are just a sample of the great bands throughout the decades, there are a ton more that I have missed!
I guess I am going to answer this question honestly.
I grew up in the 80's so I am a big metal head at heart. So I guess late 70's and early eighties is kinda important to give me the beginning of metal. Avil, motorhead, black sabath.....without them we wouldnt have metal at all.

I'm going to say that my favorite decade of music is most likely the 90's....alot of great stuff came out then.
Not so much the pearl jam nirvana stuff....I dont really care for that but Metallica and slayer was really on the ball then.

Growing up I never liked Country music...after I got older a grew to appreciate it more and started to actually like it. Brad Paisley is one of my favorites, he can write some really good songs.

Its funny you say this....growing up EVERYONE told me the same thing...." when you get older you'll grow into it" blah blah blah......I'm almost 40, been is several bands and now dj club music.....I just dont understand country music....its depressing and has 0 beat....no groove.....it def doesnt make me want to dance and kinda makes me sad/depressed. Music shouldnt do that....it should make me happy......just my 2 cents

I can see your point and I respect the fact that you don't like country. I felt the same way too. Some Country is a little bit sad, but there are also songs that are lively and upbeat. Don't get me wrong, Country is not my favorite genre of music...I love Rock in it's many shapes and forms, that is my absolute favorite!!....but I have also in the last couple of years opened u[p to Country.

I like some country, but I like a LOT of other stuff, too. I think that's the point. There can be quality music in any genre, any decade.
I grew up in the 40s & 50s so I think I was exposed to more decades of music than most of you. I studied music during that time and believe all music is good Music if it does what it intended to do. Some of my favorites are Fredrick Smetna, Al Jolson, Frank Sinatra, Moody Blues and Alan Jackson.

I love the Moody Blues. Did you stick with them through the later years Joe, or do you just like the older stuff? I LOVE "The Present" but most fans aren't with me on that one.
Haven't heard 'The Present' yet but the Moody Blues are consumate musicans so every thing they do is great to me.

Most Moody Blues fans aren't huge fans of "The Present." It's a bit poppy and It's from 1983 and pretty reflective of the time for the good and the bad. It still seems to me to have a story arc like many of their albums. Here's one of the songs off the album:
The sound is terrible, but it's worth it to see the original video. 
Long Distance Voyager may be my favorite album by them, but I really like this one too.
