What Genres are In or Out?

What genres of food do you like, or not like? Which are your must haves, every once in a while and nevers?

I personally love Chinese, Italian and Mexican as my go-to meals. I do like a good steak pretty regularly. I'll eat pretty much anything, although I'm not that into fish and don't usually seek it out.

I'm ALWAYS ready for Italian, though Mexican is becoming a favorite now as well.

Can I qualify "buffalo wings" as a genre?

I'll always go for Italian and Mexican but lately I've had a yen for Indian. Luckily we have quite a few good Indian restaurants here in the Triangle (NC). Nothing like some good Chicken Tikka yuummm!!

Indian is great for vegetarian eating too. Sometimes when I go to Indian places I do vegetarian by accident. There's a lot of good stuff at Mediterranean places too.

One thing to consider with Indian food is that it's very varied. I don't know how much of it you've tried, but there are a lot of varieties. For example, I wasn't a big fan of curry at ALL initially, so I never tried Indian food again for a long time. Then I went to a buffet were I could try a lot of different things and it really turned me around. You probably had a broader experience than I had, but I have really changed my tune on Indian. Oddly I like curry now too, but that's another story.

We love Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, and Italian. DW is a big fan of Indian food, but I'm not convinced I love it yet. I've had three or four different dishes and the flavors were all very similar (and I like spicy food). We've been talking about having Indian soon, so we'll see how that goes.

As a related aside, DW and I had a rare lunch date yesterday and decided on Chipotle. It's like Subway, only Mexican and full of fresh, natural, and organic ingredients. You choose your protein, then all the 'fixins' you want. One burrito, for example, is more than enough for a meal - they are HUGE. The standard burrito setup is your protein of choice, cilantro lime rice, black beans, sauce or salsa of your choice (some interesting choices too, like the delicious roasted corn salsa), cheese and/or sour cream, and lettuce or other veggies of your choosing. Yesterday we also got chips (fresh cooked with salt and lime) and salsa, both freshly made and excellent. The prices are very reasonable as well. If you enjoy fresh Mexican food and have one in your area, I would highly recommend paying them a visit.

We love Chipotle. It's actually similar to a place we had in college called FreeBirds, but Chipotle is more of a Mexican bent. What do you get on your burrito LifeIsForLiving? I like them all, although chicken is probably my least favorite. Love the chicken as a quesadilla though.

I normally get the pulled beef, beans, rice, corn salsa, cheese and sour cream. This time though I got the chicken, beans, rice, mild salsa (for the fresh tomatoes), bit of hot salsa (for a kick), cheese and sour cream. I actually liked the chicken a lot more than I thought I would. It was well seasoned, cooked on the grille, and charred just a bit for flavor. It was awesome except that all the hot salsa ran to one end of the burrito so the last few bites were rough.

I ate chicken forever until I tried the steak one day and I've never really gone back. Chicken is good but steak is better. I go through phases where I do Barbacoa with the green sauce too.

laugh Yeah, quick, simple, easy, but I don't know HOW they make that stuff taste so good. I want their recipe for that pork. I have a feeling it has a lot to do with fat level, but...

Did anyone mention PF Chang's? That's where we're headed for lunch, and I'm a big fan of their version of Chinese. I know -- mass produced -- but it's good!

I like PF Chang's mostly for their dumplings -- those things are great.

LOVE fried dumplings!! The university I work for has lots of Asian students and the dining hall across the street serves a variety of Asian foods...it's run by a Korean woman but she tries to satisfy as many of the students as possible.

I had crab rangoons (crab delights at the place we went) for the first time Friday. I wasn't real excited about it, but DW insisted I try them. They were awesome!

PF Chang's is a different genre than Chinese Food. I like PF Changs, but it doesn't satiate my need for good (authentic) Chinese.

Good authentic Chinese or good Westernized Chinese?

You guys are making me hungry.

I love most foods. Living in Miami we have lots of exposure to different cultures.

I've learned to like a whole array of foods like, Jamaican, Haitian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Mexican (probably my favorite), Cuban, Italian, Greek, Arab, Dominican, Brazilian, Nicaraguan, and others I can't really think or right now.

Can you tell that I like to eat. muchlove

What kind of Thai do you like? I'd love to get "into" Thai food...
