what's your preferred booking method?

After this week I should be able to officially start planning our January trip to Disney! I need confirmation from my brother (who will be cat-sitting for us) that the week we want to go doesn't interfere with his semester, but that news is expected soon.

So I was wondering, how does everyone go about booking their trip? I've played around with the self-booking option on Disney's website to get cost estimates - though I can't see anything for 2013 yet gaah Do most people go through Disney directly either online or by phone, or do you use a TA? If so, which TA groups are recommended, and is there an extra fee associated with them?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I book through AAA. I think most people on the site book directly through Disney.

I also use AAA (well, CAA, as I am Canadian). My CAA agent specializes in booking Disney Vacations. After booking 5 trips through her, I am thinking of doing it online next time as the pricing ends up the same and it is very easy. I also use the Disney web site to price out future trips. We always book our own flights since there is a fee to book it through our TA.

We book directly through Disney. You can call or do it online. You can not book for 2013 yet online though. As soon as they release the prices for next year you will be able to. That should happen very soon.

I do all mine online as well. I used to do it over the phone but calling from Canada (and sometimes being on hold for 20 min) it cost almost $40! However, the people are super friendly and fun to talk to mickey

We've done it with an agent and online. If you are a AAA/CAA member you should check them out first. Sometimes they have special offers, like preferential parking at all the parks, etc. Also, for our trip in May, they included a framed Lion King cell, which is great if you have kids. (ours will be put away for future grandchildren). Otherwise, the pricing is usually identical to what you can get with Disney directly.

However, if you book through an agent, then your reservation is "locked". You can't make changes, only your agent can do that. Usually not a problem - they are happy to make any requests for you, but if you like to be in control and do things yourself, you might not like that.

I book everything online except tickets that I bought at the local Disney store. I like being in control of what I do. If I need to fix or follow up, I will try to email but call if I need.

I used a TA for the first time in years this week to book my room, dining and park tickets. However, I had already made my own ADRs and I already had my own flights booked. There wasn't a whole lot for the TA to do but the combination seemed like it worked for me.

We book lodging through RCI (timeshare exchange). Park tickets and ADRs we get via the WDW website.

We are military and taking advantage of military rates so we booked via Disney for our room, and aa.com for air fare. We purchase our military park hoppers on base.

We buy our Florida Season Passes through AAA. I book room reservations by phone. This gives me much more flexibility in dates, resort, and rates. Ex. For our last trip in May, I told the CM I wanted POP for 3 nights any Sun.-Thur. in the first 2 weeks of May. I was looking for the best option. She began searching and came up with multiple options for standard vs preferred room, dates, and rates. She also noted that I had a pin number attached. I wound up getting a preferred room for less than a standard room, based on the PH rate instead of the pin number. I know booking online is easy, but I think my options are broader working directly with a WDW rep.

That is exactly why I talk to the castmember, of course all of mine are done through DVC member services, and beleive me I have their phone # branded into my brain (besides it's an easy #1-800-800-9800). Smile

I like talking to someone, so I call Disney's reservation line. Being a Florida resident and a passholder, I like to discuss with them the different discounts that are available.

Thanks, guys! I was going to do it online through the Disney website, so this gave me a lot more confidence in going that route.

And thank you, crazycatperson! She's my baby. The hardest part about taking this trip will be leaving her for almost a week!

I know how you feel! I hate leaving mine so much, sometimes I almost think I'd rather skip my vacation and stay home.

(Almost.)

I've booked everything online including cruises. I'm using a TA for my Fantasy cruise, however I booked my first two DCL cruises myself.
I'll probably go back to making my own ressies. Don't get me wrong she's great and has a lot of Disney knowledge. I'm just kind of type A when it comes to making vacation plans.

If you use a TA find one that is an Earmarked Agent. This means they have gone through the Disney College of Knowledge and the Disney Genius programs. They really do have a good bit of insight and are privy to all the latest happenings. Also, a TA can find out if your reservation has any special pin codes that you would otherwise not know about. The prices should be the same if not lower due to the fact they have access to any special promotions.

AAA is also great is you're a member. Military needs to go through their base.
