Needed: one awesome carry on bag for flying

Normally I use an old backpack to throw my stuff in for the flight but that backpack has since lost a zipper or two, probably a hole in it as well. Time for a new carry on. I'd like so something that will be easy to leave at the hotel prior to check in as we are arriving about 3-4 hours early. Any suggestions? I will be honest, the cheaper the better. I go through bags like crazy, even expensive ones. I also don't think I need a suitcase style bag either.

As a general idea what will be in the bag:
Small pillow, light/thin blanket, snacks, iPad, kobo (maybe), medication, wallet, park bag (small sling pack) and likely a pair of shorts, tank top and flip flops.

The Office Max near me usually have some fantastic backpacks at fairly reasonable prices. We have a couple of these: http://www.officemax.com/office-supplies/bags-cases/laptop-backpacks/product-prod3291734 that have been back and forth across the country several times now.

I have a rolling electronics bag with a clothing compartment I got there that I use. It serves my purposes, but may be overkill for you. My kids always use cloth messenger bags as their carry on bags.

I'm not sure if I want another backpack but I'll look around town. We don't have an office max but I think our university bookstore has some cheaper priced ones that are fairly decent.

I am not sure if anyone has tried traveling with a tote bag or not. Would it be practical?

I have a Vera Bradley Weekender bag that is fantastic. My sister-in-law and I love them. They are roomy and are not too large.

The DW bought me a High Sierra carry on bag from Kohl's that has a medium size backpack you can unzipp off the bag. It is great for me because it has wheels so it's super easy to roll on and off the plane and it fits in the carry on bin. I normally have an extra pair of sneakers and a couple changes of clothes in it with a laptop. Then I can put my camera stuff in the backpack with some snacks and extra magazines to stow away under the seat in front of me for the flight. I use the backpack in the parks for camera stuff and rain jackets for me and the dw because it seems to rain at least once a day in Florida.

I am looking at the lugg and Vera Bradley sites now. I also am considering a jujube even though I don't have kids/diapers to deal with. I will let you know what I pick!

You can check out Timbuktu - they make some great bags, and you can get custom designs. I have a messenger style that I use for work, but truly, madly, deeply covet several other styles. They make backpacks and some very cool totes and sleeves, etc. I could seriously have four or five of their bags!

I also have one that I use as a carry-on and I love it!

On a side note, I saw this bag today for a tablet/computer and love it!

So cute! Reminds me of the pan-am bags you can buy on mod cloth!

Too bad shipping is $24 to Canada Sad
